    Got the Galaxie home this evening. I had to rush to pressure wash it, as storms were coming, so NO video of pressure washing. This is a quick overview of the car. Enjoy!
    Lots and lots more videos coming on this Galaxie 500. Please subscribe if you wish to see this car restored back to it's 100% factory original glory.
    If you liked my video, hit the like button, and thank you for watching.

    My previous car was a 4 door in the EXACT same color with a 289 2 bbl. So much fun as a first classic car and I learned so much. Too bad i got T-boned.

      It's defiantly going to get the correct size white wall tires when I am finished with everything else. The tire on it now are fine, and will be replaced with the whites before I drive it regularly.

    I found you John on the third chapter and am happy I did. I showed the date night to some friends and they had muddy eyes too so well received... Tell the mrs., hi from youtube land, a guy in alaska with brain dead cells and very little body parts working at seventy three on tuesday.. was thinking sat., for some reason but I am close now.. a beautiful build so far. I will check out the other videos as I owed a sixty bonneville that I bought when I first got home from nam. I got it from the family doctor and it was really something... I probably should of included it in some of my other comments but as you know they are books so will try to shorten returns a lot

    I saved a fully loaded 66 LTD, 390 cu, 2 dr hard top the day before it was to be towed as junk after wife's WWll vet uncle passed. Paperwork says he bought it new with trade of his 53 Merc. Has 74k miles and was sitting in his garage in Philly since '76. Condition very similar to your 500. I'm a carpenter but largely self maintain my '04 Astro & '06 Durango. Needed a larger garage for this project so I bought a fixer upper with 3 gar garage and will rent the house and retain use of the garage. Looking forward to watching your project and learning. Thanks.

    I remember Romeo Plank Road and Gratiot that used to be called Gratiot Plank because the roads were built with wood planks. I knew a guy who grew up in Frazier and remembers when the planks on Gratiot were removed and paved with concrete. It’s great you can help out your dad, my father is in assisted living in Gaylord and will be 89 this October. Looking forward to more videos on this project. I moved to Houston in1983 but watching your videos brings back memories of when I rode motorcycles and snow mobiles all over Northern Michigan.

    Very, very nice '66! My grandmother, back in the early 1970s, had a '65, four door Galaxie, same color as your '66! Hers looked about the same in the interior, the dashboard, seats, etc., but her car was a 4-door hardtop, with a straight six, automatic transmission, manual steering and manual brakes too! Since she lived in a small town in Alabama, I drove her car around a little bit, I was only 12 or 13 at the time! Steering was really tough, when parking! I have always liked the looks of the Galaxy's, and your car will turn out great I know! I followed your progress on the '60 Pontiac, and I'll enjoy seeing this Ford progress as well, congratulations!

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 65 and 66 were very much the same. The 67 is a little different, but still has that same kinda look. There my favorite years of 60's Ford's, 66 always has been my favorite. My mom started driving in 1968, when my folks traded there 59 Chevy Parkwood in for a used 1966 Ford Country Sedan. The Country Sedan had power steering and power brakes, the Parkwood didn't. Mom could steer the Ford.

    • @davepike6170
      @davepike6170 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@OldCarAlley, wow, that's a good story! My grandmother had never driven, until my grandfather died in '71. She gave his '64 Rambler station wagon to her sister, and my uncle taught her to drive, at age 70! He bought her the '65 Galaxie, she didn't want power steering, said it would "get away from her!" She was such a small lady, I don't know how she drove her Ford, but she did, locally, for maybe 2 years, then stopped driving after a little accident!

      I "hope" to do something to it every day.... All it takes is LOTS of time and money. The engine is stuck, so I may start tearing it down in the next day or two. I will pull the heads first, just to see how bad it is stuck. The cylinders don't look rusted. I shoved a remote camera threw the plug holes... they look good. I am going to pull the starter first, to make sure it's not the starter, and try to turn the flywheel. I figured it was stuck when I looked at the car.

      If it was factory air I would leave it, and get it working. I am going to put my gauges on it, to see if it's still charged, but I doubt it. I will throw my vacuum pump on it, if it's discharged, to see if it leaks or not. If it leaks, I will remove it for 100% sure. I mean it's a convertible... who need air in a convertible? It a cruiser, not a everyday car.

      It's a Florida car originally. It was driven up from Florida in 1975, and the new owner parked it in his pole barn, where it sat for 41 years, in Canton Mi. The guy I bought it from, bought it two years ago from him. He came to the realization that he did not have the means to restore it, and decided to sell it. Thank god he didn't tare it apart. He did nothing to it, other than destroy the ignition switch. The car was at his mothers house, in a small two car garage in East Point Mi... thats not far from me. Maybe 10 or 12 miles away. I found it in a craigslist ad.

    For starters, the worst thing you can do for an engine is pressure wash it with water 💦

      Not too bad considering restored prices, I had a 66 in mid 70's with a 289, mine, used as a winter/2nd vehicle when I had a 69 Z-28..Frame was rusty even back then but 289 ran fine, turquoise with white painted top, great party car with a huge trunk--

      @@zxtenn Considering the other dozen or so cars I have looked at this past year, were in need of much more work than this car needs, that were in that price range... makes me realize what a great deal it is. The body is really solid for 53 years old.

      The condenser is bad, and I am not spending money on another one, plus the receiver/dryer would need replacing... It's just not worth it for me to repair it.... so it's going away.

      @@aeknikh I have decided to box up and save the aftermarket A/C, and pass it on the the new owner, when I sell the car. That way if they want it back on, they will have it. It is repairable, but I just don't want to spend money on something I know I will never use.
