    You sir are (in my eye) a 4e/5e LEGEND! Thank you for all the great information you have provided to all us 4/5e builders. Shame these cars and engines are out of production. Do you have any ignition maps to share???

    I've wondered about those marks too, but now I know, Thanks for sharing.
    Also, I've had a look and believe that Honda D15/16 flywheel will bolt onto the 5E crank, not the other way around, Honda uses slightly bigger bolts, but that may be a cheaper alternative to aftermarket flywheels as 5E was a pain to find, at least in NZ

    Currently rebuilding a 4e and was just wondering what the difference is between the two dot punch marks on the cam cap for the timing on the head

  • @Ricerguy
    @Ricerguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Finally a proper video on this! 😁 I use the 4e marks on my n/a 5e. When I first built my high comp 5e, I ran my oem 4e-f carb distributor with mikuni bs36 Yamaha slide Carbs. I had to modify the centrifugal weights in the distributor to restrict them from advancing the ignition too quickly (there was 0 spring preload for a the first few degrees) used to pink like crazy before that. With the 5e marks the torque would come on strong in the lower rpms and spin the tyre, but fall off alot uptop but the inconsistent fuel quality cause severe pinking around where the torque would come in, I retarded the cam timing using the 5e marks and it killed that torque kick but the higher rpms power just keeps climbing. The 5e mark suited my car better with the 3.5final drive, but with the 4.3 final drive and the 4e timing mark suits my needs better. Very unnecessary for a turbo application though.

    • @minecraftclone
      @minecraftclone 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a turbo 5e fhe. Just spins and has alot of tourque down low. Maybe i should try using the 4e marks

    Have you ever tried to to advance the intake cam by one or two teeth to create overlap on a 4e

    • @MattBerrymotorsport
      @MattBerrymotorsport  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you gain a bit of low end torque and lose top end. Not worth it at all as the cams are tiny

  • @retrofox3372
    @retrofox3372 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ Campdogs I’m using 5efhe complete with forged internals and bolt parts needed off a 4efte with T28bb so using 4E marks best for turbo size and all round power?

    • @MattBerrymotorsport
      @MattBerrymotorsport  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have stock cams?

    • @retrofox3372
      @retrofox3372 ปีที่แล้ว

      5EFHE cams stock yes with the upgraded valve springs you have mentioned on your parts list, I’m wanting to achieve 280hp-300hp would that turbo be sufficient? It will have a stand alone ecu also with 450cc injectors

    • @MattBerrymotorsport

      4e for the 4e and 5e for the 5e?

    • @yeri805
      @yeri805 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 4e doesn't look good for the 4e or at least I'll have to try it, now I've disassembled it to change the cylinder head gasket and I'm going to see how it looks in the 4e, but it seems to me that I assembled like this the other day and it didn't start, I also think that if in 4e you have been started it could be by the distributor, if in 4e for 4e how the distributor should be it would be good to know, thanks

    When i have a 4e N/A Engine with 5E Cams - is the 5E or the 4e Mark better for Top End Power?

    • @kevin82499
      @kevin82499 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the 5E mark is 4 degree advance than the 4E means 5E mark have better low end power, if you go for top end use the 4E mark

  • @Jay_fotography

    Try it in a running engine?🥺

  • @user-ci7we9of6p

    all i know is bro the piston has to be at top dead centre, the crankshaft pulley wheel should be at the mark, and the number intake camshaft lobe should be touching the intake hydraulic lifters and exhaust camshaft pulley wheel 5E mark facing at the top and the hole below the 5E No Letter on cam wheel has to align with the dot on the camshaft bearing cap

  • @juliotjapilon19

  • @minivanin

    5e DIS motors drop power significantly after 5500rpm. This could make it carry power to the limiter
