The rumor that Disney is getting rid of the entire sequel trilogy is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. What logic is behind that? Why would disney retcon this trilogy they spent millions on to please some fans, when it ended so recently? It doesn’t make sense from Disney’s standpoint.
Especially since when doing something like that would be them admitting to failure which wouldnt look good to the stockholders which is why they would more realistically sweep it under the rug with all of Disney's other embarrassments
I don't see it as such a ridiculous prospect. It's happened with big film franchises before. The X-Men films retconned each other all the time (for better or worse).

Disney erasing the sequels from existence was one of the worst “rumors” I have ever heard. Even worse is that some Star Wars fans are foolish enough to buy into it. Even if I don’t agree with everything decision the sequels had made, they do not deserve to be erased, because in doing that it alienates part of the fanbase that loves the sequels.

Here's a fun thing: I did a game with my friend where he made up titles for mike zeroh videos and I was needed to find them. He then asked me to find "mark hamill did something and George Lucas is angry" and I actually found it. It's called "Lucasfilm is angry at Mark hamill" which has the name Lucas in it so I guess I did it
People who just can't accept the fact that the sequel trilogy happened. I understand why people are upset, but you can't change the past. It's bad enough people are doing this with issues in the real world. I am not a huge fan of Disney Star Wars, but I am not just going to go through my life being upset at someone for putting their own spin on a fictional universe. What's the point of life if we constantly live in fear and anger?

As someone who enjoyed the sequel trilogy, I'm glad more people are speaking out against Doomcock and other bullshit flingers.
Since when did we start trusting Doomcock, anyways? People gave him credit for leaking the TROS plot, but that had already been leaked on Reddit, and he just took credit for it. That, and he constantly feeds into the worst parts of TFM.

This is why I love HelloGreedo. Although I loved the sequels, he doesn’t force his hate down our throats every other second. He doesn’t rant about it “not being canon” or petty, whiny, immature shit like that, but he’ll make a brief mention as to his thoughts so you can be on the same level as him, then he moves on. Basically he doesn’t deliberately take the piss out of either side of Disney Star Wars haters/supporters, something both types of fans should strive to achieve.
Look, the sequels happend. Making them not canon changes nothing. It doesn't matter what's your opinion on them, the only option for Star Wars is to keep moving.

But there is always a chance of dishonesty - they know the rumors are most likely fake, but they also know they have a rabid fanbase that just loves to gobble them up and will watch their videos (probably multiple times) and have some "discussions" in the comments.

There is a sizable group of Star Wars fans will always find a way to make the community look like a bunch of idiots. There is so much hate and entitlement among some of these people it is frustrating. Like just recently Rian Johnson tweeted about what he loves about the prequel trilogy and yet people were still criticizing him, talking about TLJ or how he doesn’t “understand it” and all of that crap. Like he literally just complemented the trilogy you guys love why are you putting him down? They are doing the exact same thing prequel critics were doing 20 years ago.

It's pretty ridiculous. Rise of Skywalker just came out less than a year ago, and even though it was kind of a miss for a lot of fans, the sequel trilogy still made a crap ton of money, and there are still two good films out of the three (The Last Jedi is a good movie, don't @ me).
ROS isn’t good and yet it has many great moments that I keep rewatching even if the film on the whole is a tragic misfire.
Anyone else remember when people would say "you believe everything you see on the internet?" Then you'd feel dumb and actually start thinking about what you read. Those were the days.

Star Wars is taken more seriously than any other franchise I can think of even more than Lord of the Rings or Marvel.
Man the shit TLoU2 has suffered and is suffering thanks to it's leaks and how amazingly wrong some of those leaks actually are about certain things, but hey it being correct isn't what's important right? What's important is that someone somewhere gets to be righteously outraged over something they know next to nothing about and will forever ignore the reality of the situation or at best brush it off when they're corrected and still hate the game regardless.

The time people actually thought Disney was going to fire Kathleen Kennedy just because the fans were mad was honestly hilarious to me. Her number one job is to make LucasFilm and by extension Disney a lot of money. I’d say mission accomplished. They had absolutely no reason to get rid of her when she was doing her job correctly, they even extended her contract and that was even funnier seeing people lose their minds. Or when people say Dave Filoni should be in charge of all of LucasFilm despite the fact that one: he doesn’t want to, and two: he has no experience running a multi-million dollar company as big as LucasFilm. He just wants to make great stories, that can run counterintuitive with the financial needs of a business. That’s why George appointed Kennedy as his successor, she knows how to run a business and make them money. Doesn’t really matter if some fans hate it, the money speaks for itself. The only movie to do bad was Solo, partly because no one cared about seeing it but also because Disney forced LucasFilm to release it in competition with other huge movies that people cared more about instead of the holiday season where Star Wars dominates

As much as I hated the 3 sequel movies I just can't imagine how Disney would want to delete their brand new multi billion dollar franchise. There's people who enjoyed it and I can't imagine their favorite movies being wiped out just like that only because another group of people disliked those movies. Sometimes we let ourselves get off to ideas that fit our personal beliefs or how we feel about a topic and this might be one of those. Also, if for any insane reason this were to be true it doesn't ensures that the alternate timeline universe would be better that the sequels, it could be even worse so it would not be a sure thing they would make what many fans want and it would only create more division in the fanbase. Absolutely. I hate the prequels, but could you imagine how devastated so many fans would be if they erased them? Generations of fans grew up with them, and it puts a smile on my face. Same thing with the sequels, I know many fans will grow up with them and I can’t wait to hear more from them

The only Disney Star Wars movie that sucked was The Rise of Skywalker, and I still enjoy that film in different parts. 15 years from now the Sequels to the sequel trilogy will be seen as the worst trilogy and everyone will say that the Sequels were a good story told badly.
As someone who really hates the sequels and personally only considers the first 6 movies as canon I got to say... Who the fuck actually believes this shit? No way in hell would Disney actually throw away millions of dollars to make new sequels and to also say the sequels we got are non canon which would anger the fans that actually liked the sequels in the first place? These people have been on the internet for so long that everything they read or come across has more or less become scripture to them. What the hell happened? I remember as a kid the internet was just something we went on every now and again for fun. It was an escape from the real world. Now the internet has taken on a life of it's own and has screwed up an entire generation of not just Star Wars fans but people. The worldwide web has become a cesspool for division, narrative enforcement and humans just being blatantly toxic so render me shocked that the Star Wars fandom has made it a breeding ground for spreading all kinds of stupid bullshit.
Well, that's the catch about the internet. On the internet, everyone has an opinion and can share stuff, but the problem is, EVERYONE has an opinion and can share stuff.
Remember when people who did not like a movie just wrote some fanfiction that met their taste better? Remember when people just didn't scream in rage because of some fictional content, but just stopped consuming this said content they didn't like?

I remember around 2015 sometime before episode 7 came out, there were rumours that Disney where going to decanonise the prequels and they where going to reboot them
I remember back in 2013 when there was a rumour that Zac Efron was going to be in ep7. I miss those days.
I'm reminded of the old phrase, "Opinions are like assholes, everyone has them." In this day and age, some are bigger than others.
And while I personally only liked 3 (maybe 4) of the 5 Disney SW films, I don't think they should be erased but accepted as they are, warts and all. You can watch them or ignore them, up to you.
Unless it's Halloween 8, no film should be erased from existence just because fans didn't like it. Reboots are there to appease or change course, but there's always going to be someone who will want to see what came before, even if it's just for a laugh (aforementioned example included).
This is so applicable to not just these stupid rumors, but nearly all aspects of our current world situation.

The only leak was the rise of Skywalker script and the reason I believed it was because there was actual evidence to prove it. But this rumor sounded so fake right at the get go. I’m not a fan of the sequels but this rumor sounds so stupid and completely made up. What’s worse is that more channels are reacting and covering it which just makes it spread and become more annoying. I bet they will forget about it in a month just like the stupid Galaxy’s edge rumor and move on to making something else up. It’s just pathetic and gullible.

Bad analogy in my opinion. You didn't wait years for a new kind of pizza at Pizza Hut that you expected to like and the CEO of Pizza Hut probably just approves products. The person in charge of Star Wars can change the entire franchise. Lucas is the proof, he did something really different with the prequels. Kathleen Kennedy's Star Wars is also different with some nostalgia here and there.

Kathleen Kennedy is in charge of Lucasfilm, they are the sole creators of Star Wars content (or at least have final say on the canon). It is illegal for anyone else to produce and sell anything to do with Star Wars without their involvement.
You cant say to Kathleen Kennedy, “well i dont like your Star Wars so im going to watch Star Wars from elsewhere.”
The fans aren’t complaining because they didn’t like ‘a movie’, but because they didn’t like ‘a Star Wars movie’.

tbh they kinda screw up the universe and really limit the content that could be told and be interesting around the setting so I'd say there needs to be at least radical changes to them for it to work well in the long run. The films themselves in RoS and TLJ I do believe to be bad films (TFA is well made and very rewatchable but it's the film I have the most problems with and is where the issue I'm talking about started in) but not bad enough to retcon just based on the quality lol. A film would have to be one of the worst works ever made to merit that reaction. It's just the story and how it affects the greater universe that is really bad for the brand and time period. breaking the lore, serving as a reboot not a sequel essentially, angering people about the handling of the characters, lazily writing blatantly stupid ridiculous MacGuffins to drive the boring plot we've all seen before to just do a reskin of the OT but with much worse, less enduring and more ridiculously stupid factions and characters. Any interesting story that can take place in the era of the ST can also take place in the OT but there it will make more sense, be more impactful and resonate with the audience more and ultimately sell better. This just going to leave the ST neglected and severely underdeveloped like for the most part it never happened.
I don't believe a fix would be hard at all though, all thatI I think needs to be done is a special edition to be released with specific scenes being replaced and those scenes wouldn't have to have the main characters or change the basics of the plot too much, just the details, the factions and worldbuilding/ties. No way this ever happens for a very long time though and even still, it wouldn't help with the original;l perception of the films
Same can be said for the Original & Trilogies or anything with the Star Wars franchise or in real life.
All the other TH-camrs are coming out with videos discussing the leaks and whether or not they are true even though they obviously aren’t.

The thing is it's just a continuous cycle of hostility. I myself am guilty of being very biased, arrogant, toxic, believe me I've said a lot of stupid stuff. Of course as of recent months I've improved myself, I've stayed off Twitter, joined some fun groups, and honestly I feel sooooo much better.
Now I'm planning on just having a star wars marathon with my friends just cause..... The only way that things like this will stop is if the people that start this shit realize that "hey maybe I shouldn't say this" look I don't know what it's like to be a TH-camr (I have a job in the real world) but they are ways to get views without resorting to this Alex Jones BS. Ex. This channel at-at chat makes these great lightsaber duel analysis videos. They are fun and engaging. Also take a guess as to how many views they have each?

You can always be suspicious when these people all say "our secret sources at Lucasfilm", or "this is not first hand infomation", which is code for "we made this up for views". I mean I myself don't like the ST that much, so I wouldn't mind them being gone, or for a "multi-verse" to be made which continues various continuties seperate from each other. But yeah, I commented on some of these videos pointing out the lack of sources, and the next video was explicitly like "take this with a grain of salt, we can't confirm anything, this is third hand infomation, BUT our sources in LUCASFILM", which was contradictory, lol.
If it’s confirmed by an official source then it isn’t a rumor, it’s fact until proven otherwise.

Thank you so much for saying all of this HelloGreedo. I showed my parents too as so much of it is applicable to how I feel about the current state of things with social media, TH-cam, etc. but there is so much food for thought in this as well. It's interesting to consider how much our world seems like science fiction at times.
If they didn't de-canonize the prequels when they acquired Star Wars at the height of anti-prequel sentiment, why on earth would they de-canonize the financially successful and for the most part well received sequels??

De-canonizing is such a pointless endeavor. There are so many inconsistencies even in the OT because Lucas changed his mind/made it up as he went along. I'm sure at some point there will be a new version of the entire saga. Not a reboot. Just another version.
At some point you realize it’s just a game. Sometimes the game involves real rage, but it’s really all just to make themselves feel like they’re part of something bigger than themselves, a righteous crusade against a “phantom menace” to the simplicity and ease of childhood, in this case manifesting as Star Wars. It’s sad that people choose internet negativity instead of dealing with their real issues, but you can’t let it affect you.

People surround themselves with others who share their beliefs, it gives them such a skewed view of things. Plenty of fans despised the prequels too, but of course George didn’t scrap them, they made tons of money and brought in tons of new fans, just as the Disney trilogy now has despite the fact that lots of fans hate it. History fucking repeats itself no matter how in denial people are about it.

It's almost humorous. I just went to Disneyland with my wife a few months ago, and it's definitely not a failure. We went during the school year, during the week, and not during any of the major breaks, and Galaxy's Edge was still packed full of people.
