I lived on the Upper West Side back in '92 and one day on W73rd or thereabouts, I saw this little girl walking down the sidewalk with her dad and she was singing this song to him. As we passed I realized it was Daisy and the look on my face made her smile. A month or so later I saw this concert and realized that I'd seen her practicing...
@@snopesshop1903 - There are too many talented people out there, that could do this song justice. This kid wasn’t it. Elementary school talent show level. At best.
I saw this Sondheim tribute on TV almost 20 years ago and I thought that Daisy Eagan's performance was the best one, by far. She was enchanting and a true B'way baby. There must be at least a dozen excellent versions of "Broadway Baby" (I love Bernadette Peters's) but this one is my favorite. Thank you, BestArtsSondheim, for posting this. I thought I would never see it again.
Grew up together in NYC. She was performing a greuling (adult schedule of) 8 shows a week, was the youngest to win the top Tony Award, at 11 years of age, and all of this with her beloved mommy DYING OF COLON CANCER in the middle of it. How many grade school classmates did YOU have who were BOTH so talented and so STRONG? She has never lost her talent and spark, and being a great mother is another addition to the résumé! I thought the comment about it being "pitchy" and bad was not only incorrect, but it gives no idea what that time was like for a CHILD who's mother just died, doing an ADULT'S JOB, DOING IT BETTER THAN ALL THE ACTUAL ADULTS THAT YEAR, and never sinking into the child star trope of drugs and egoism.... just wanted to ask if that person would be so spectacular as a 6th grader in mourning on a Lincoln Center stage and broadcast to MILLIONS? It's a great performance for ANY age, and done with her childhood, very knowing, adult sense of humour. We should all be so talented and "together" and full of humour in the face of adversity and quite literally with the world watching....
@@melfortune5855 maybe in the last few years, but when we were 11 in school for NYC performing kids, she was the youngest at the time (1990 I remember) to get best lead - male or female.
@@melfortune5855 Yes, Frankie Michaels is still the youngest Tony winner for playing Young Patrick in the original Broadway cast of MAME. He was 10 at the time. Daisy is the youngest young lady to win, but in terms of the youngest winner, the late Frankie Michaels still holds the record.
I did this song an Annie Audition for a part. I started from "hey there producer" and gave the directors my head shot. I got a great part and they loved it lol
It was 1992, and everything old is new again, maybe? Or, the six-year old Lena Dunham saw this concert live or on TV and became such a huge fan of the 12-yo Daisy Egan that she's modeled her look after Daisy's look in this performance ever since. "That's It!" (Shouted like Charlie Brown in "A Charlie Brown Christmas).

What a beautiful, healthy voice and natural delivery!! Gorgeous.
Daisy Eagan is a rarity these days. This production shows what a real person looks like. This performance is the best of Sondheim's song I've seen!
@Helena Dweller It's adorable. It doesn't have to be perfect.

@Doseof Reality I think you missed the point of this performance.

Daisy Eagan is so talented. Someone should cast her as the lead in a new play or musical.

She's amazing but wasn't Frankie Michaels the youngest winner?

She was a pro already!
I'll admit this is VERY fun to watch ... considering I'm accompanying her for her one-woman show tonight here in New York City.
ok when she holds out the last two notes I am just speechless i love it
the ONLY version that ever really excited me other than the peerless original.
Hm. I've always loved Elaine Stritch's version from the 1985 concert recording the most.

she was my idol when i was little omg
She really takes it home at the end, I mean, what a strong finish! Bravo!
This is good --- not your typical little kid singer!!! You go girl!!!!!
Hahahaha
"Slaving at the 5 and 10 *beat* Not."
Hahaha, that was perfect!
A natural entertainer.
What a great talent. And what an honor to have received her Tony from Audrey Hepburn!!
She gives me chills up and down my spine = )
They just played this video on the Classic Arts Showcase, everyone should watch it!
I love this. So charming and sweet
FABULOUS! 🥰
This was the best part of that DVD.
There is a LOT to like, including Too Many Mornings, Joanna and, my personal favorite, the Our Time/Children Will Listen medley.
Holy shit yo!! outstanding performance!
She’s wonderful
Awesome Song!
Lovely.
She was interviewed in a podcast I like, she has a lot of interesting things to say about being so young and so talented
Try looking for her Tony acceptance speech for Secret Garden some years back...it was wonderful!
I'm just a Broadway baby walking off my tired feet.
She's pretty awesome is what she is.
The single most perfectly placed "not" in history.
The best performance of this song, ever!!! I think it says "Broadway Bound" on her suitcase?
"Broadway or Bust," I'm pretty sure.
Great!
Good job daisy
Great performance. Too bad it was not video recorded in HD.
Daisy is the bees knees!
She did very good!!! :D bravo?
@BetsyGirl1976 she still performs, she performed tonight at Eleven Club in West Hollywood for Musical Mondays
i like how you can hear her laugh a little to herself on the "of" after "slaving at the 5 and 10, not" (: she's great.
I just loved Daisy Eagan.....could someone tell me what her luggage said on the side of it when she carried it off stage?
Broadway Baby!
I believe it says "Broadway or Bust".
"BROADWAY OR BUST!"
I mean BRAVO .
Brava!
@@austinbleedinghearts Thank you, John Rhys-Davies in "Victor/Victoria." :)
Daisy Eagan is a giving me Hannah Horvath as a child in this clip
A feature on Daisy just appeared in the New York Times. She is quite a survivor.
