Thanks for this, very good for complete novices to sailing. I used to race with my father on our Catalina 27 and have crewed on a few others including a Pearson 26, (in the 70's). I was just gifted this and find it so relaxing and love the idea of being able to sail around the world and the real time elements like time of day and weather.

The simulator makes an excellent tool for tutorials such as this. I've watched all kinds of sailing tutorial videos live from the boat, or done with various graphic technics, but you can't get the same optics that visually enhance your descriptions like your doing here. The sail twist was an excellent example, and that's a hard concept to explain to a novice. Now, perhaps if one had a high-end drone with multiple cameras, you could do more from the boat, but you would still need a full crew and a lot of expensive camera equipment to do what you are doing with a $40 simulator. I emailed a link to a friend of mine who runs a sailing school; this will interest him, great job.

Excellent :) Wake up,morning coffee and a sailing lesson,Do you select sail then turn or turn and select sail? i was 14 and went on a weeks sailing course and on day 3 i capsized in a force 8-9 gust with 2 boys standing on the starboard edge and then being slammed in the water then back out.most terrifying moment of my life, apart from watching my daughter being born lol....Thanks, a lot refreshed and more learnt.I'm in the UK so my first trip will be a lap of Britain i think:) onto part 2

I can empathise. As a young teenager me and my two brothers once hired a small sailing Dingy out of Falmouth Bay (Cornwall UK), confident in the knowledge that our oldest brother knew what he was doing, however, that day there was a strong off-shore gust that ended-up driving us all out to sea!! My brother tried do some tacking to get us back but had neglected to drop the retractable centre board/dagger board!! - things got quite 'exciting' lol

I would like to see a sailing ship, windjammer sim, where we race windjammers from Australia to England like in the 1920s and 30s.

Great Tutorial - excellent info for the complete 'novice' - I can see how professionals might do some griping over some of the technical inconsistencies and somewhat less than realist elements to this alleged 'Simulator' :)
I think for my own purposes the game is worth the investment ($29). I'll be buying; If for no other reason than the on-line community of knowledge.
    Thank you

    Question, new to sailing.
I’ve seen a lot of Hobbie Cats capsize. I know sailboats have a heavy keel that maybe allows the sailboat to heel over a lot more preventing capsizing.
    1) what happens when a sailboat capsizes. In regards to an inexperienced sailor might put sails in improper locations etc.
My thinking is to understand how to make boat heel over a lot & to learn where’s that point where that tipping point is at to never to go past it accidentally.
    2) if you are sailing in high winds or down winds & your genera or spiniker sail is out is there anyway you sailboat could sink the bow & have the stern lift up & make the boat tip over?

Hey man. Monohulls by law have to be "self righting" which means they can capsize but pop back upright. Many people who solo sail around the world have done full rolls in the southern ocean and the boat ends up ok.
Has to be enough weight in the keel to flip the boat back upright

Also your third question it is possible to catch a wave the wrong way and sink the bow into the water I've seen small lightweight boats like j24s go pretty stern high but never flip. A boat with Spinnaker up usually creates lift on the bow

Yes nice sim, but we cannot sail into ports! I like to sail to other city bays!

Yeah this sim is a huge let down. I quit playing it but there's nothing else out there

It's ironic, @2.50 minutes he recommends to get this game, then just a month later he posts a scathing attack on Sailaway in another video saying why you shouldn't buy it even though I fully agree with a lot of his opinions on that other one.

I was venting with frustration with all the bugs on sailaway and now we find out the devs are understaffed and overwhelmed so they are making it open for the community to mod the game which might get messy
