I watched when he was told at his concert of Sinead's death and tonight my husband informs me Tori is 50 and I end up looking up Tori and played Famous Blue Raincoat and you mention him. Anybody who can express emotion with this song, will capture hearts. I heard the song from Tori first and became a Cohen fan since then.

Must say I prefer her studio version. This one is a bit faster, like she's trying to get to the end. I feel the piano is overplayed and a bit distracting. Stunning song of course, but worth finding her original recording, from an LC tribute album.
Thanks! Dufaults version is really good. She has a strong and raw voice, and she performs with great emotion. The guitar comp is excellent. I still hold Toris version in higher regard, though. Her dynamics are simply outstanding, greatly varying both tempo and volume. It's a masterclass of emotional and organic performing. She also has the advantage of comping herself on the piano which enables her to match her singing and comp expression perfectly. Add to that her excellent piano skills, and you have a true master at play.

That was presumed (thought so myself), then Cohen replied when asked about it that people believed it was about Scientology as he was dabbling in it at the time, however it was a reference to Sex! Most odd is Leonard said he was never satisfied with the song, even changed the lyrics some over the years when playing live. Crazy!! No matter what he was thinking, will always be a Fabulous Tune!! Just something about Tori's voice and the sound her piano makes that strikes a cord with me. Everyone has a different ear.....heck....some people even like rap. Damned if I know why.

The best version is the original bij L. C. Period. And the sing has to be sung by a man. Woman can sing the song beautiful maybe but they can never convince me for the lyrics.
The sax and Warnes more powerful voice have one feel and Tori's version with piano have a more intimate feel. I like both but I think I prefer Warnes and agree.

I love Tori since her debut, I love Leonard Cohen but the version of Luce Dufault can't be beat, she's incredible just take a look

Aurora does an epic version of this tune. It's a live version recorded at a tribute concert after he past away.
She is such an overrated artist. Not a trained singer at all and sounds completely amateurish compared to Tori in my opinion.

I love Tori`s stuff, well most of it, but this song just does not work on piano. It`s Leonard`s song, lets leave it to him.
