Nick Falletta I had the chance to meet him one cold November morning (not even kidding. It was poetic) on Ste-Catherine street in Montreal. I was coming back from an all night party and was a little off. I crossed the street and there's this well dressed old man with a scarf and a classy hat and it was Leonard Cohen. I started listening to him when I was 17 with my girlfriend of the time. We used to lay in bed late at night, naked listening to all his albums. Bird On a A Wire, Who By Fire, Chelsea Motel. I said hi Mr Cohen he said hello, I said you're music means so much to me thank you. He said thanks and shook my hand. I was completely dumbfounded. he said goodbye and went along. When he died me and that girlfriend of mine which has been my friend for 20 years went to his appartement near The Main in Montreal and laid some roses and oranges amongst the hundreds of other flowers, incense, candles and offerings. We stayed there for 2 hours almost silent.

Leonard Cohen was one of the most important songwriters ever to have lived. His incredible and massive body of work is one of the most brutally honest, and beautifully expressed translations of human psychology and emotion that exists. He was a true pioneer, perhaps not through any true desire to be a trendsetter, but through a manner of carrying out all aspects of his artistry completely in his own way. The world has lost one of its most unique voices, but a voice that I'm sure will be heard for generations to come. Rest in peace to a truly great man, a man that helped me realise the power of music, and a songwriter that will forever be an inspiration for me to make and perform music.

Court of Appeal Case No. B267794
      L.C. vs. K.L.
Court of Appeal Case No. B267409
      Dear Judge Perluss:
I am writing in response to Wendy Lascher’s letters to this Court dated October 10, 2018 with respect to the above referenced cases.
Wendy Lascher does not represent my interests and I did not authorize her to request a continuance of oral arguments due to the retaliatory proceedings before Los Angeles Superior Court, Case No. 6CJ03685, related to deceased “protected” party, Leonard Cohen, and/or the co-conspirators, Robert Kory and Michelle Rice that involves a very serious federal tax controversy, obstruction of justice with respect to federal tax matters and compliance with federal tax laws, and the use of the fraudulent California and Colorado restraining orders to tamper with the administration of those laws.
As set forth in the Natural Wealth suit, filed with the U.S. District Court in Colorado on July 1, 2005, Leonard Cohen and Robert Kory planned to use restraining orders to “crush” and “discredit” me as a “witness.” This does not seem to be a valid basis for the issuance of restraining orders. This allegation was raised six months prior to Cohen obtaining his first civil harassment order against me. That order was not a domestic violence order and therefore one must conclude that the nature of Cohen and my relationship, which was purely business as set forth in the motion filed with the Boulder Combined Court, changed at some time during the period of 2005 through May 25, 2011 when the fraudulent California domestic violence order was issued to Cohen without minimal due process, service, notice, and/or a meaningful opportunity to be heard. I would like to point out that I did not see Leonard Cohen again, apart from legal proceedings before LA Superior Court, since November 2004. Leonard Cohen and I were not in a “dating” relationship. Sexual harassment and sexual assault are not “dating” and California’s laws, as well as federal VAWA, have a statutory relationship requirement. My lawyers discussed the sexual harassment and so forth with Robert Kory as early as January 2005. At that time, in front of my lawyers and accountant, Robert Kory offered me “50% community property.” I have steadfastly refused to enter into any type of settlement agreement with Leonard Cohen due to his conduct and the conduct of his representatives. I find the issuance of the fraudulent California domestic violence order, and particularly in light of the public’s interest in sexual harassment, gravely offensive. I also take offense at the government, without any jurisdiction whatsoever, assigning me a “dating” or any other type of “relationship” with anyone......................................................................................................................................................................

This is a most interesting version of one of L. Cohen's most fascinating songs. He takes liberties with the lyrics making it even sadder and more reflective. He appears depressed here also. He did suffer from periodic depression, not uncommon for someone who viewed this sad world so darkly. He was one of the greatest poet-songwriters of all time. I'v'e loved him and his songs and his poetry for over 45 years and feel like I've lost a brother. I'm sure there is a special place in Heaven for him, this brilliant, modest, self deprecating humanitarian. R.I.P Leonard my brother.

    • @andriancurshen3586
      @andriancurshen3586 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Yeah I've listened to it hundreds of times over the years and still don't fully understand it. The famous blue raincoat was actually Leonard's. Did he give it to his brother? The fact that he sign's the letter L.Cohen clearly shows clearly that he is talking about himself and his brother and not some other unknown persons. So did his brother sleep with his girlfriend Jane? Who is Jane. There are explanations out there but I never was satisfied by any of them. I can't remember if Cohen himself explained the song. But I love it. The way he produces that lovely tune on the line 'Jane came by with a lock of your hair' is pure songwriting magic. It can me cry if I'm feeling that way.

I cry everytime I hear this and especially this performance.. Look at those eyes, that face, its almost like at times it feels like he's standing next to his dead friend and reciting him this letter both as a triumph and painful retribution and at times it seems like for the joy of others, the joy of his wife, the joy of his friend, or the joy of an imaginary third force, he steps back in all humility and recites this letter from far away, surrounded by water and the breeze, stands alone, whispering to the breeze the words of this letter/this confession/this closure.. There was none like him and there wont ever be anyone else like leonard cohen.. A true masterpiece.. you fill my heart Sir Cohen with wondrous excitement and comforting pain.. I love you..

I'm bawling like a baby... If there was any single artist that shaped
me, it was you, from your novels, to your poems, to your music. One of
my first college friends, my first "grown up" friend was formed because
of a mutual liking for you... .I learned about Lorca and Duende from
you.. In my younger, handsomer days, I dressed like you....My dark
optimism was learned from you...I learned how to seduce
women from you...I learned to appreciate, honor and respect women from
you... This can't be true... you couldn't have left us today... you
shaped so much of me when I was young...You taught me how to be a

his two novels, Beautiful Losers and The Favorite Game available. My
college "Leonard friend" Tony Ferlito managed to find the first one,
Beautiful Losers through interlibrary loan from god knows where. But
the loan was like only for two weeks, and we knew that we wouldn't both
be able to get through it in such a short time... so we torn... should
we just steal it or what? This was Leonard's rare novel. We couldn't let
it go... so instead we spent hours (and I really don't want to think
about how much it cost at 4 cents a page) xeroxing ourselves each a
copy, and painstaking laying out and gluing the sheets together into
book form, then binding them together fittingly with cardboard and black
tape. I remember having that book for years, re-reading it until it
dissolved.... Luckily years later I found reprints... which now I no
    longer have.)

Michael I like your soliloquy. I read all the poems in my twenties and now I am reading "Beautiful Losers".
I should also mention that I live in Montreal after coming here to go to school and graduating and deciding I love this city too much to leave it. I live within walking distance of his home and went to pay my respects...and to leave a guitar pick (I really need to practice more)...
      He isn't gone...
He will always be with us...

The first time I heard this song, I fell in love with Leonard Cohen. L. Cohen is the only musician who can reduce me to tears and goosebumps and sit back in awe at his amazing lyrics, delivery, and music. Everybody makes such a big deal about his current age and I don't know why. His voice is gruffer but he is even more talented than he ever was. For you newcomers, welcome. These words have haunted me for decades. I will never stop listening to him and believing in him. Such a gentleman!

    Lyrics
It's four in the morning, the end of December
I'm writing you now just to see if you're better
New York is cold, but I like where I'm living
There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening
I hear that you're building your little house
    Deep in the desert
    You're living for nothing now
I hope you're keeping some kind of record
Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear
    Did you ever go clear?
Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much older
Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder
You'd been to the station to meet every train
You came home without Lili Marlene
    And you treated my woman
To a flake of your life
    And when she came back
    She was nobody's wife
Well I see you there with the rose in your teeth
    One more thin gypsy thief
    Well I see Jane's awake
    She sends her regards
And what can I tell you my brother, my killer
    What can I possibly say?
I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you
I'm glad you stood in my way
If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me
Well your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free
Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyes
I thought it was there for good so I never tried
And Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear
    Sincerely, L. Cohen
