The 25 year rule is a good and a bad thing, it prevents the European used car market being "sucked dry" by the American passion for cars and on the other hand it prevents you Americans from getting decent deals now. :)

Nah, salesmen don't care that much about the car brands they sell. Selling Chrysler this week, Nissan next week, then Mitsubishi two weeks from Wednesday.
Laminated glass was also removed for safety reasons on side windows. It is difficult if not impossible to escape from a burning or underwater car in a hurry with laminated glass... you can't break it. With the tempered safety glass, you can break it with a screw driver or a sharp tool made for the purpose. A few seconds save lives!
man... reminds me of when my aunt gave me her old cutlass and I ended up having a broken front passenger window... I picked one up from the junk yard for 12 bucks and replaced it myself... the worst part about the whole thing was the glass cleanup. So much of it ended up inside my door and the rattling would have drove me nuts if I didn't dig it all out.
@@darcychu9652 I did that but it was still a MASSIVE hassle to wiggle the nozzle down to the bottom of the door past all that junk in there. It still took me like 3x the time to get rid of all the glass than it did to replace the window itself.
You forgot the part about no matter how well you vacuum, no matter how clean it looks, you will forever be finding little cubes of glass for the rest of the time you own the car. They get EVERYWHERE.
My lawn care guy put a rock through my storm door window recently. Little pieces of tempered glass all over the place. He had the door repaired, and it looks like brand new. I have a honest lawn care guy.

This man is very honest, and when he starts cutting my grass in the Spring while I'm in Florida for the Winter, he texts me for the number of cuts he has done, and I send him a check. The first year I had him, my neighbor kept track of his mowing for me while I was south, and it all lined up. Gee, I feel sorry for you.

I had a 1993 Ford Ranger Supercab that had the rear passenger window broken by thieves that failed. But I was cleaning glass for years. Thought I had it all, then after a few months, more broken glass would just show up on the floor in the back. Just a piece or two, but it was annoying.
If you see a phillips head screw on a Japanese car or motorcycle, realize it's most likely actually a JIS screw (Japanese Industrial Standard). You run the risk of stripping it if you're not careful as the JIS screws have deeper grooves. Notice how Scotty mentioned the screw was somewhat in there pretty good. Yeah, that's because it's not a regular phillips. JIS screws can tolerate more torque without stripping so they are usually screwed in tighter than most phillips. Get yourself at least a #2 JIS screwdriver if you're going to be working on them. They make everything much easier.
I've had some success finding glass in wrecking yards. Currently, door window glass is about $35 per piece at the self-service place. Once, someone broke the glass in the hatch of my Chevy Citation. That glass is glued in, so it is difficult to remove and install. I just bought the rear hatch of of a car, and installed it in my car. They are currently $77.
Same side window on a 05 Sienna was shot out by vandals and I took it to safelite and they left broken glass rolling around inside the door and broke the black plastic trim on the backside of the window. A $50 part alone. You did a better job.
For some reason, my 2007 BMW 328xi randomly decided to roll all the windows all the way down right before a big storm, including one that was stuck. I watched a step-by-step video on how to detach the window regulator from the window. My plan was to duck-tape the window to the roof of the car. It went pretty smoothly until, "make sure you roll the window up halfway." 🤔How am I supposed to do that if it's stuck?🤦♂️ I gave up and scotch-taped the entire door. It did surprisingly well to keep the interior dry. Screw BMW! 😠

EMS personal need to realize not all side windows are tempered. Your glass breaker might not work on some makes, models. So if it doesn’t shatter clean. Have plan B in mind.

I have worked for satelite for 14 years and I have done plenty of rear door glasses on Toyota sienna minivans. Those door glasses suck! They roll up and down, and it's really tight inside the door. It's pretty much impossible to get all the broken glass out of that door. Probably the worst piece of glass on that vehicle to break. Oh and getting that door panel off with the door closed is always fun, especially when glass inside the door, jams the door handle mechanism. Make sure to clean out the track. Love the videos man!
many lawn mowing guys tie back the guard on the mower deck discharge chute so it won’t get clogged with grass and then they don’t have to clean it. problem is, a rock hit by the mower blade may strike a window or a passerby instead of being deflected downward by the guard.
I absolutely hate it when lawn mowing guys do that. Not only does it risk the operator getting hit by rocks, but others are at risk. A clogged discharge chute is better than a broken window or an injured person. My Grandfather actually got hit in the eye with a rock that came out of a mower because that. The vision in that eye has not been the same since then, and that was almost 40 years ago.
Sorry bout your granddad! This really pisses me off, when a landscape co. cuts the swath of grass nearest the street & points the discharger to the "ROAD" so your car gets blasted by whatever they run over. No consideration, I know they do it to keep all the crap off what they just cut, at the risk of damage to life & property.
Great lesson, Scotty. So many windshields are cracked every year. An oncoming dump truck sent a rock into my Mark III windscreen. I chased him down, pulled him over. He said, "I'm just hauling sand." Hard to win that case, man! :^)

I once personally replaced the rear cab fixed window on a truck using spray liquid soap inside the window rubber and a cord to install the new window pulling the cord out from around inside the cab while setting the new window in place, or do you have a better idea? Love your vids and your shared auto knowledge! We now happily own a 2014 Tundra Limited 5.7 RwD, and, 2014.5 Camry SE 2.5
If you have even light window tint on the window, it helps to keep it from completely shattering. Just look at the cars from hail storms where the tinted back window just has holes from the hail.

Most if not all OEM manufacturers do not make their own glass. There are only a handful of companies that make auto glass, these manufacturers supply most glass shops with 'aftermarket' glass. The most important part in keeping the structural integrity of your car is the quality of the install. Quality primers, urethane and making sure all surfaces have been cleaned and prepped properly. You get what you pay for. Spend an extra 100 buck and goto a reputable shop for your windshield. What's a few extra bucks over the lifetime of your car

This is why I pay for glass insurance coverage on my 2017 Subaru Outback. It's on its 3rd windshield.$996 per windshield. $12 per year for coverage!

Front and rear Windows are designed to be pushed out with little effort. Trapped ? Push your feet on the windshield she will pop right out.
Now I know why it cost me $600 the last time I had this done.
@@captinbeyond windshield replacement is miles easier than window replacement. Especially on pillar less windows its hell.
This is why I have GLASS Insurance on all my trucks. I payed ZERO dollars deductible both times I had mine fixed.

Most if not all OEM manufacturers do not make their own glass. There are only a handful of companies that make auto glass, these manufacturers supply most glass shops with 'aftermarket' glass. The most important part in keeping the structural integrity of your car is the quality of the install. Quality primers, urethane and making sure all surfaces have been cleaned and prepped properly. You get what you pay for. Spend an extra 100 buck and goto a reputable shop for your windshield. What's a few extra bucks over the lifetime of your car
