- I can not stress how beneficial paddle drills have been for me, especially in the beginning phases of my pickleball journey.
I didn't come from a tennis background so there was a lot I needed to catch up on as a beginner: primarily, getting really comfortable with my paddle.

Perfect for fine-tuning skills even when I can't hit the court. Thanks for the awesome tips! Time to grab my new Oliver-Sport paddle and get to work, haha
I really appreciate you talked about trying to catch the ball to develop soft hands, and the paddle roll. From playing tennis for a long time before pickleball, these exact drills are mandatory to practice softening a player’s hands. Touch is vital in pickleball and you see a ton of instruction on TH-cam talk about needing soft hands but less really showing how to get soft hands. So big props on that
This is one of the best basic tutorials I have seen yet. Great job young man.
Thank you
Excellent drills! Bad weather, no partners, no court time are no longer reasons we can’t work on the most important basic eye-hand-dexterity skills.
I can’t love this video enough and I’m hoping Santa leave a TopSpin Pro under my tree! 👏👏👏
Hey this is a new twist on the old drill in tennis. And this creates a better awareness of my body mechanics, paddle pressure and paddle strokes...I love this video. 👏👏👍👍
Great video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge Davis 🙏
I can't tell you how much I appreciate these videos to help me get better at home.
Great job Ed...I get on these drills immediately...hope they help my game..just 7 months into the sport and I'm hooked
This is excellent Ed! Glad I found your site - so helpful - Thank you
thank you for this!!! I also come from a table tennis background and topspin, yeah - now I understand why mine mainly lands in the net!!! Great video!
Thanks Ed! Appreciate the tips! Just bought my first pair of paddles. Cant wait to start! Subscribed!
Awesome tips man! My only suggestion is to wear a dark shirt. You got white walls, white shirt and white paddle- your paddle rolling will show up even better with more contrast between the paddle and background. But awesome tips. Can't wait to try them !
Excellent personal drills! I will start doing these at home and while waiting for a match 👌
I’ve been doing these skills for about a week now and the difference in my game has been astounding thanks and keep giving us ways to get better pleaae
Wow! Kudos for the mad paddle control!
Thanks so much! wow does this bring control to the next level. I am certainly going to wait for your future posts.
Great Ideas for at home, will definitely try them.
Ed you do a great job and thanks so much for doing these! It’s nice to have you around…
My pleasure! More to come :-)
I love your videos. Really liked the one with jrr the dude practicing serves with you
nice vid thanks so much looking forward for more tips🤩
I have been wondering how to practice without a court to practice on, so thanks for this video. 🎉
really great and informative video. my kid started playing pickleball in gym class and he really liked it. so now me and him are both playing it a bit on the weekends :D
Thanks man it help my game a lot!!
Your videos. Are amazing!
Super thanks for the practice drills at home
Great tips! Thanks.
Awesome stuff and thanks for bringing all of our skills up! Appreciate your videos 🤓
Très intéressant! Merci 🙏
Algorhythm brought me here. I like your vibe. Great drills. Subscribed!
Good video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the video!
Topspin drilling is the thing that I want most and feel the most frustrated about not having a good way to do it...
At first when I saw that topspin pro contraption I was very confused.. but as soon as I saw you swing at it once, I knew I needed something like it...
I probably won't buy one... But I'll look at that design to figure out how to build my own version.
Great vid. happy pickleball!
I saw an idea using a bicycle wheel. Makes sense to me!
Love your videos!
Great video! I’m 64 & I just started playing a couple weeks ago. I’m obsessed!! I want to be good right away😂. I’m taking lessons, playing with some hard core players & watching a lot of videos. Thank you!
Wow, “to be good right away” adds a lot of pressure on yourself and your partner. You’re motivated but take time just to enjoy the game. The more you play, the more you gain….
A butt ton of great tips, great video. Please tell me he always says 'butt ton' in the last sentence of every video. Pure gold
Wow
Thanks dude
You make it look so easy LOL i have a hard time just doing basic juggle
What’s a good paddle with good grit for spins. It needs to be light weight and not crazy $ too. Thanks for any ideas!!
"a butt ton of topspin" great video!!
I really like your hand to eye coordination training drills and the Topspin Pro looks like it helps with drilling a topspin stroke. I use that same stroke for a drive, but I do want to point out that at 13:35 in the video you mention using it for a serve. I had to adjust my serve to lower my paddle face so that it's below my wrist when I contact the ball to make it a legal serve. If you slow down your video it looks like your paddle is above your wrist. You might want to check that out.
One of the most common grips in table tennis (pingpong) is the shakehand grip, it is a bit similar to the continental grip.
Is your tan/gold/black Luxx a thin grip?
Very helpful, video, Ed. Thanks. I am a newbie, and I am going to start doing these drills diligently - though, there is no way I am going to get that paddle roll to work - just saying :)
Tks pro
Where can i buy one of those ball holder thingies? If he mentioned that in the video, I missed it.
Wow! That's amazing tool ! Where i can cop that? I'm from Philippines 🇵🇭.
Is there a discount code for the Topspin Pro?
Where is a safer link for the Hesacore grip? The one given warns of malware, etc.
What is your recommendation for a good paddle with "grit?"
TY
❤
Does The Topspin Pro really help? I'm thinking about getting one
It definitely does! I remember the first time I hit on it, it just really clicked for me that the exact motion of your paddle and angle is what makes the ball spin. Super neat invention!
I was taught the same ping pong grip, however you shouldn’t be limited. You just twist your wrist and you have an insane forehand and a very quick and nasty backhand. A friend who taught it to me won back to back state championships for ping pong. I always wondered how it would translate to pickleball, especially at the kitchen. 🤔
Any reviews coming for the Vanguard Control?
Dropping Feb 27th!
Awesome. Enjoy your reviews.@@edjupickleball
I clipped the first 10 seconds and made it the video I watch for meditation before bed....
Actually rolling over the ball for topspin reduces topspin. The motion of your swing brushing up is faster than the motion of rolling over. So the roll over is slowing down the spin. It also is changing the direction of the ball off the paddle.
👍👍👍👍👍
Students we want a 'BUTT TON OF TOPSPIN' any questions :).
What is the model of your racket
To me it looks identical to a Selkirk Luxx Control Air - S2 paddle
Dont forget to craddle the ball
I’m new to this. And struggle with the fact that if I play, or the opponent plays a ball that was over the line it can be called and the point is over. How is it not that once you played it the ball is still live? I guess it just seems contradictory that you played the bad ball and now you get to say it was bad and not have to play out the point..
According to the rules, a person calling the out has until the ball is hit back by the opponent to call the out. In other words they can hit it and then call out but can't wait until it gets back over and the opponent hits it back towards them to call.... my guess is that factors in some "brain processing time" because lots of times it's hard to know if it's going to be in or out until the last second if it's close to the line, so you can't wait until then to realize it's in and initiate a swing so you go ahead and swing but notice it's out as you're mid swing and have time to call it. The "until the opponent hits it" time limit prevents the possibility of being sneaky and calling it after you think they're hitting a winner back haha
The catching of the ball doesn’t matter on the grip it’s on you catch the energy of the ball. Like when they throw a baseball int your glove your catching. If you see he starts to drop his paddle slowly to catch the energy nothing to do with grip imo. Good stuff though.
1:10 The idea that that is a "ping-pong grip" sickens me as an actual table tennis player.
So handsome😘
Lmao “a butt ton of top spin” good video though 15:40
Bruce Lee level training 😂
If you need a drill for pickleball, you need get some help! Just go out and have fun! That's what pickleball is all about.
Lord...
Ilegal serve
Best drill is throw the paddle in the trash and walk away 😅
Beware the Topspin Pro. It marks the hell out of your paddle. Seriously flawed hard ball on the device. Otherwise easy to use.
Why not use your old beginners paddle? Problem solved!
I have one, and I agree to the marks. I also see black scuff marks on the ball. What does that say about the SixZero Black Double Diamond that I use?
Are we going to play pickleball or join the circus?😂
What’s your level?
😂😂😂
Not sure. I think 3.5.
@JohnSmith-gc2ok they're always accepting clown applications. So you'll be good.
@@elche1976 thank you. I'll consider. How have you been liking it so far?
Get in the weight room if you are going to wear a tank top.
He’s fine, you’re rude
Maybe you can get a date with him gruntled woman!
He looks great as-is!
