Perfect for the mornings when my kid has soccer games and doesn’t want to wake up early and wear himself out on the court. Watching you do the drills also helps me feel less lonely and pathetic out there on my own 😆
Thank you for a very helpful video. I am going to practice in my back garden into a golf net. Obviously NOT as good as on a court , but it should help me as I am a beginner pickleball player. Your videos are really appreciated. I have subscribed as I want to improve as quickly as possible.
Great video. Love solo drills videos because it’s so hard to find a partner to do drills with. It’s almost impossible to get a group to train with unless there’s a coach involved. Also, It’s nice to see teachers that see the benefit of practicing aggressive serving. I know to begin with it’s more important to consistently get the serve in, but getting the hang of hard to return serves can be practiced at any level.
Everyone I try and train with stops after half hour or if they see people they want to go play so they don’t work hard if I say no we need to practice.
Just want to say how much I enjoy your videos and coaching. Your approach is professional and approachable and you’ve really helped me think about my strokes rather than just wacking at the ball. I’m a much better player because of you. Cheers.
Thanks for this video. My situation is that I must practice alone most of the time. So, many of your videos I could not use because they involved practice with a partner. Appreciate this type of practice video.
You have become my prime time pickleball channel and believe me I have seen many....I have recommended your TH-cam channel to our club of over 250 members here in Hilton Head, SC Your red yellow green video is my recent favorite.....Noticed the non volley zone practice offered a ball that was at least in the yellow zone to offer drive option

Good stuff. I find myself the only one on the court a lot... and even in Rec ball, people hate when you work on "new stuff" during a game (or maybe that's just me 😆).
I am always working on my skills when playing recreationally. Yes, I make more errors, but since I don't have the choice to do drills hardly ever (most all I play with just want to play, with no interest in improving their skill level). So, they just have to tolerate the additional errors during RECREATIONAL play.
I always save my practice hits for the start of the game, or when we are up 4-5 points. My partners are usually pretty understanding when I tell them I'll play a safer game if I need to.
Didn't know that I was waiting for this video, but now I see it's one that I will greatly appreciate! But what about third shot drop? Not effective for solo practice?
I used to do stuff like this when teaching myself tennis back in the 90's. When using a Pickleball it's harder than it looks. I have only played twice so getting used to the lack of bounce of the ball after a drop is still new.
One of the positive things of Covid restrictions is that we could not play doubles but played skinny singles for six months(!!!) and became much better at placement! Also , I practice against a wall for drives and at 7ft for dinking
Hi Jordan and PTime! SO happy to have found you and your AHMAZING teaching videos! Thank you for the solo ideas as I have to shift to practicing in the p.m. and I injured my hammy. I am working on lowering and top spinning as well as placing it deep to the receiver’s backhand. I appreciate the other solo drills cause looks like I am gonna be a loner at practice!
Try the Louisville Slugger soft toss machine.. It has a "feeder" that sends a ball down a ramp and launches just high enough to hit.. I use it in my classes. It's a "baseball" item that works really well for Pickleball.. Cheap and easy to set up.. The other thing is for "targets" you can use towels to lay on the court and they're easy to see n hit.
Jordan, Is there a purpose in spinning your paddle 1 or 2 revolutions AFTER you toss the ball as you are moving to your ball contact position? It seems there is a risk in ending up with a slightly wrong grip at the time of ball contact. Your feedback is appreciated.
Yes, the more revolutions=the more spin. Just kidding. It’s a habit that I haven’t broken. I hardly ever have the “wrong grip”, so that’s why I’m not too worried about changing it.
You’re really good. Are you a 5.0? That would be my guess but I’m still trying to wrap my head around the scoring structure. I’ll find out this weekend at my first tourney. Hopefully my 2.5 estimation is accurate. Thanks for your vids!
Be mindful of where your paddle is facing at the point of contacts. That’s where the ball will go. Slow down your swing if need be to gain control and a sense of where your paddle is facing at contact.
Since you have a 2 handed backhand do you use a paddle with a longer than normal handle [so as to fit both of your hands easier] ..Thanks...am a newbie.
Two handed backhands are entering the game more & more. #1) it's easier to hit topspin on the BH with a two hander because you can have a later contact. Topspin is becoming much more relevant in the game #2) It provides more stability on defensive blocks & resets to have a second hand that is behind the paddle 3) Some players find it easier to attack with two hands because you're holding the left hand on the paddle as a FH and that can make it easier to generate power.
Hi Jordan, how do you feel about using a semi western grip for achieving top spin? I get a lot of top spin from it, but it does contort my body some and I have to be quick on changing grips. Do you think I should just stick with the continental grip?

Sharp angle...kind of. you still have to swing quite up and full speed not recommended. full swing produces more of a forward motion sending the ball in a straight line that is not conducive to landing short while still clearing the net.
Thanks for this video. Can you/have you made a video about placement? That is where I struggle. I'd like to place the ball down the middle or sideline, but it often goes cross-court. TIA for any advice. Meanwhile, I'll keep practicing.
Folks sometimes have an easier time with timing the ball after they let it bounce. If you don’t need that, I’d recommend using the volley serve. You can get a higher contact which is very helpful to hitting more impactful serves. If you watch the pros you’ll notice they all use the volley serve. The drills in this video are for self feeding for practice and not specifically for serving.
All good pointers. I see that you have a tennis style swing, both foreland and backhand. I also started in tennis many years ago when the topspin pros like Borg first dominated the game. I have always tried to hit with significant topspin, both tennis and pickleball. I am about a 4.0 player. Do you have any specific recommendations for topspin? Possibly a style of paddles?
Wow, a young guy that could play tennis...playing this? WTF? I do believe this is a very low joint impact excersice for those older people that can not play tennis anylonger!
Thanks for doing these drills without a ball machine not everyone can justify getting one.
👍🏻😎

@@primetimepickleball That is what I figured - sort of a habitual "pre-ball strike" routine. I think I'll pass on developing that one ;- )

@@primetimepickleball that’s crazy. I thought 5.0 was the highest ranking. Very nice. Thanks for your content 🤘
Explain how you hit the ball to the different spots in the court ie backand, middle and forehand.
Be mindful of where your paddle is facing at the point of contacts. That’s where the ball will go. Slow down your swing if need be to gain control and a sense of where your paddle is facing at contact.
Super helpful. Thank you!

Since you have a 2 handed backhand do you use a paddle with a longer than normal handle [so as to fit both of your hands easier] ..Thanks...am a newbie.
Yes, definitely. Get a longer handle paddle if you want ot use two hands.
Just curious, is your two-hand backhand shot a preference or a necessity? If a preference, then why?
Two handed backhands are entering the game more & more. #1) it's easier to hit topspin on the BH with a two hander because you can have a later contact. Hi Jordan, how do you feel about using a semi western grip for achieving top spin? I get a lot of top spin from it, but it does contort my body some and I have to be quick on changing grips. Do you think I should just stick with the continental grip?
I would recommend an eastern grip, which most pros use for their forehand groundstroke.
@@primetimepickleball Thank you for getting back to me. I enjoy watching your channel.
Will be trying this in the morning

Can you do dynamic / drive shot with your hand swinging , not just pushing, such that it lands at the kitchen line?
Sharp angle...kind of. you still have to swing quite up and full speed not recommended. full swing produces more of a forward motion sending the ball in a straight line that is not conducive to landing short while still clearing the net.
Step 1: buy 150 balls.
Yes, lots of balls will help.
Or you could always grow your own 75 pairs…
Thanks for the drills
Any time! 😁

Thank you very much!
great video BUT you are stepping over the line before you hit the serve... is that a legal serve?
When you're self feeding to train a drive forehand it's not the same as a a serve so you don't need to adhere to serve rules.
Thanks for this video. Can you/have you made a video about placement? That is where I struggle. I'd like to place the ball down the middle or sideline, but it often goes cross-court. TIA for any advice. Meanwhile, I'll keep practicing.

Is this from Concord, Calif.??
Yes.
pros and cons of drop/bounce serve vs hitting serve without a bounce.
Folks sometimes have an easier time with timing the ball after they let it bounce. If you don’t need that, I’d recommend using the volley serve. Can you use these as a serve
You can absolutely train your serve like this on your on. Serve training is the easiest to do on your own.
How do I practice if I have one ball and handball court?
See this video: th-cam.com/video/nfTcDYLPi1o/w-d-xo.html
Why the paddle spin on the toss? Is there a purpose or just a thing?
Habit. I don’t recommend it.
