I've said it before, while YSL, Prada, Guerlain, etc gets you compliments, Obsession gets you conversations. People feel instantly familiar with you and amused that you can resurrect a past romantic moment in their lives - as Obsession might be the biggest ‘vault’ holding scent memories of intimacy - that can be triggered with people of every single age. Cool Water came out 2 years later, but people wore that as a day/office scent. People often who wore Obsession had something else in mind, if you know what I mean.
Sure, I have 100+ bottles but it's the only scent that's ever moved people to say, "thank you" (men & women, young & old) in giving them a moment to reminisce with a smile and often laughter. You wear it when you're going to be in big spaces killing time (airports, conferences, etc.). In sum, it has a "Yearbook - Ice Breaker" effect that few if any fragrances can match - at any price.

Obsession was before my time. But I did a blind buy for it recently, and I actually really like it. I love the fresh, citrus, and aquatic scents, but many of them just smell the same to me. Obsession though, love or hate it, at least has a unique scent.
I only wear CK and Obsession is my absolute fave.

The original was absolutely fantastic smelling. Trust me, as I wore that in high school plenty. Yes I'm 51😁 It was extremely popular. The several reformulated versions have watered this scent down big time and the profile of smell has changed from the OG.I'm going to try to find my OG bottle somewhere in my ridiculous collection, and see with comparison. If it even still smells good or gone rancid!! The OG was nuclear in projection. Apply it in the morning for school, go to the PT grocery store job till 8 PM still smell when I got home. Sorry Chad baby love those those power house scents from back in the day. Called nostalgia 😊😊.

Your sense of smell is dying. There's no way they reformulated it that weak that it's 50 or 75% weaker. Maybe 10%

I actually prefer the one for women (I’m a young 19yo guy). I have both bottles, to no surprise my father got me the women one without knowing, and recently gifted me this one. I haven’t really given it a chance but I will soon just to see, but the one for women is phenomenal to me. The opening is hella spicy yet warm and is a bit harsh for the first couple minutes, but the dry down has my girlfriend all over me 😅. I wear it lightly at night in the house, but when winter and them cold seasons come I can see this Women’s Obsession being a warm, cozy, and spicy kinda gourmand dumb reach maybe even my winter signature.
The dry down again to me is sensational, it’s sweet from vanilla and some citrus and it lasts through out, but mainly you’ll have notes of warmth from amber, a tad woody note, and incense. Floral notes are also there but with everything combined I’d call the Women’s one unisex. Very good projection and medium to very good sillage too.
I don’t remember smelling this on my grandmother, or any other grandmother to be honest. I could see it being an old timey scent that the ladies used to wear, but hey, girlfriend is still on me and even if I smell outdated compared to other winter fragrances (spicebomb, jazz club, SWY Intensely, etc.) I’d say this is more unique in this day and age compared to outdated.

I absolutely love CK Obsession even the reformulated version I have both vintage and the current this stuff is too good I understand the hate but I love it and I’m young.
Is there a big difference between the original and the reformulated?

This is the OG. Love it and not ashamed to admit it.
As an official member of the boomer set (albeit the last boomer gen year) I will admit to having rocked this back in the day. That said, there is too much on the table now to reach past them to grab Obsession.
I truly love Obsession for men deodorant stick. That is one of the best scents from autumn to spring. That cologne is way too heavy stuff for me too.

Sorry that you don't like it, but from a woman's perspective, it is awesome. My nose perks up like a bird dog, if anyone near me wears it. I bought a bottle for my boyfriend to wear when we were together because it was an aphrodisiac for me.
I'm a millennial. I wore Obsession as a kid/teen (still have a little left in a vintage bottle), loved it. My dad wore Givenchy Pi, loved it. Now I just bought both. Still waiting on Obsession.. but I still have my old obsession bottle from the early 2000s so I will see how it has changed however I wore my vintage bottle the other day and it's still perfectly fine and brought back many emotions.

I worked in frangrances for years and i found that Obsession seemed to never go bad as a tester bottle compared to other fragrances in clear bottles. Light and heat are a big fragrance killers, which is why you have to keep bottles in a dark environment....except Obsession, which the display in my store faced the morning sun as you walked through the door and it never went bad.
This one's I have to be in the mood for.it can be cloying. But why would you avoid the power houses?
Put on your skin and let it dry down bro. Pointless review otherwise.

On skin is it a very beautiful, technical, riche, classy fragrance.
You can smell, all « niche » you want, for the most, they don’t have 1/4 of he’s technical and genius effect.
In the 80s, do this type of cologne man… so briliant.
Fun fact, if you are patient, you gonna find big similarity with Musk Ravageur from Frederic Malle on the dry down 😉. That fact prove that in the past, we built more technical and great perfumes, with more complexity and evolution. For ME from Frederic Malle, very simple formula with little evolution… please i want to go back 😂

It smells like orchata ( sweet rice water ) or Aroz con leche ( rice pudding ) its dry down sandlwood is fantastic . I can see a guy office job in his late 20s . At a club in Manhattan wearing this , with a trench coat listening Rick Astley . Maybe a midwest college student in the library with a turtle neck sweater an Oliver people's specs . It was a luxury scent back in its day sometimes it kinda smells like a butter scotch yellow candy those old people have 😄. It's a charmer to me
I agree Chad. I’m a boomer. I have tried the reformulated Obsession and found it to be very different than I remember and not in a good way. It was so good back in the ‘80s. Best decade for music! I find that Aramis for men is the same. I don’t care for either now. 😎🤙🏽👊🏽

I have been told both the men's and women's Obsessions were the same as always and that my sense of smell has changed. I just didn't believe it. I know the formula has been changed. Neither give me that weak-knee feeling.
Chad I know you hate it but everyone has their own opinion and I totally respect that . But this fragrance I love it, I pull it from time to time. Maybe you could do a top Calvin Klein video.
You know what I actually filmed one back in the fall but ended up deleting it. It felt too much like the one I did a few years ago. I might do like a top 3 instead of 5 or 10.
Never smelled this before that I know of .. I might pick this up just to see what all the hype is about
I think obsession is just fine , but there is much better options outs there today .

An old scent. I like the old and new stuff. Nothing smells old imo. A scent is a scent. A flower will still smell the same after 100 years. It's a good perfume. No, I'm not a boomer 😉. What's considered old now can be the new hype within a decade. No problem for me.. but I avoid the hypes. Choose between Sauvage and obsession.. A no brainer for me. If everyone wears the same perfume.. Why would i wear it? Perfumes are like food...whats good for me can be awfull to others. Luckily... Otherwise this would be a boring world.
Azzaro pour homme, Hugo number one, Calvin Klein eternity edp. Davidoff zino... Indeed typical perfumes from these days. Very recognizable.
Boucheron Jaipur...not very comparable with the ones above. But it's the same.
Another oldie but smells like a modern one is nikos sculpture. One of my favo oldies. Together with Roma uomo.
If you haven't tried the 2 last ones... A must try. Would be nice hearing what you think of these. Especially nikos sculpture. Could be a new perfume.
I had fragrance allergies so steered clear of all these 80s and 90s power colognes...and didn't start discovering them (it took a while to love them) until about 10-years ago. When I started dating my wife she has exactly two perfumes: Chanel Gardenia (which I liked) and Obsession (women) which I hated! Instead of breaking-up, I bought her some perfume (she's up to 50-60 bottles) and told her never to wear that again.
Being a fraghead I picked-up a bottle of Obsession for Men back in 2015 just for shits 'n grins. How bad could it be? It was bad and I didn't like it so it sits on the shelf for historical purposes. I love scents like Antaeus (power cologne done right) but things like Obsession and Eternity smell dated and not at pleasant.

Lol I wore this scent today, just to break it up from ouds, Aquatics and woodsy stuff. Still works and I’m a heavy applicator. I bought Z 14 on your suggestion and found it to be a real gem. Good review though.😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🫵🏼🙏🏻
Obsession smelled so much better 20 years ago. It's made by Coty now and Coty is known for low quality reformulations.
I'd be willing to smell the original formulation.
Chad, excellent video. I smelled Calvin Klein Obsession a few months ago and I think that it smells terrible. Years ago, I use to wear the fragrance. I do not know how the fragrance has changed over the years but I can not believe that I wore the fragrance years ago. I must have been crazy when I was younger.
I was told that it does smell a little differently with the reformulated but who knows. Its a strong scent regardless.

The opening used to be more of a gourmand vibe. It smelled similar to the smell of CinnaBon in the air at the mall.

Ck masterpiece weakend by reformulations. The Walmart/Belcam $8 dollar dupe smells closer to what it used to be. The CK female version is totaly unisex & a beast of a performer!
so... get this if you want to smell masculine? got it. :D I love the smell. But, I hate the modern sweet smells that remind me of a 5 year old who just finished eating at IHOP. Sticky and dirty. Some sweeter smells are good. But, most give me PTSD of cleaning kids. My daily is Polo for men. Obsession is CK's best frag.

But a nostalgic love for me. And yeah, definitely an 80s scent. It sounds like you may have gotten some older juice though because I've found that the current formulation is weak AF. And five days in a row...kinda pushin' it. Even I won't do more than two. Appreciate your take as always!

The original reminds of ceder and oakwood mixed with cinnamon. Smells like an antique wood box. It's overwhelming and screams "hey, I'm tryna pick up a lady at bingo night".

I'm in my mid '50s and first tried this back in the late '80s. Couldn't stand it then and now it's even worse.. For some reason, this just smells like cat piss when I wear it. I would do the CK Eternity and Escape. Not this. And it was a projection and performance beast in all the wrong ways...
I got a bit of a chuckle from your statement. Escape is pretty good. I got a bottle of it for less than 20 bucks.
Can't go wrong with eternity or escape both gems.
