    Thank you so much for sharing your bridge expertise with us!!! I"m finding learning the game to be very difficult, but I don't want to give up. I've found hope from your efforts: the videos and the wonderful app!!! I have a question regarding hand 192: with 20 HCP, why wouldn't I just immediately bid 2NT?

      Hi Sue and thanks for your encouraging feedback. Regarding your question, you need to be very careful. Your opponent has at least 13 points, so your Partner may have nothing of use. If that is the case, you would probably only win about 6 tricks. So, by doubling, you give your partner an opportunity to help you. You also ensure you get to bid again, so you could bid 2NT then if you wished. Also worth noting, is that your opponents don’t know why you doubled. They may overbid their hands and give you an opportunity to defeat them, even if your partner has nothing. Good luck with your Bridge.

    Jad, I have really enjoyed your series and of all the different videos I've watched for this great game over the years, yours are my favourite for their straight forward approach in teaching the game.
    I hope you will continue with this series as It's been 8 months since this last episode. Hope all is well with you and I wanted to say thank you for the 30 lessons you created as they're very much appreciated!

      Hi. Thanks for your great feedback. I will definitely be continuing the series, but several family issues, exacerbated by the pandemic, have made recording very difficult in the short term. There is no major problem, but my recording setup has been dismantled for the time being. Cheers!

    Good day M Delokk, could you do a takeout double and/or strong double if the opponent's first bid is weak? Meaning they open at level 2 or 3? Thanks again for your great videos!!

    • @jadbridge
      @jadbridge  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi JD. As with most bidding, it’s important to make sure you and partner are on the same page with an overcall over a weak opening bid. Over a weak two, you can certainly make a takeout double and also convert it to a strong double. Over a pre-emptive 3 bid, you don’t really have the bidding room for a strong double. In any case, you should have a stronger hand to overcall at the three level, so I recommend you keep your double for takeout only. This means you have good strength and can support any of the unbid suits. Cheers.

    13:30 By following this rule, are we hoping that the partner may have more than 3 cards and playing in a trump suit is better than playing in NT?

    • @jadbridge
      @jadbridge  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Yes, you are correct. We are looking at the least bad contract.

    I cannot understand how partner can assume that your bid of spades indicates five cards.you may well have had a 4/4/4/1,or 4/4/3/2?

    • @jadbridge
      @jadbridge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi James, thanks for your comment. You ask a good question which I have not explicitly answered in the video. After your double, partner gives a weak response, so any suit you now bid should be a long suit and partner will take it as such. If you don't have a long suit, as you suggest in your question, you have four choices: 1. Bid NT, but make sure you have the required stopper. 2. Raise partner's suit if you have a fit. 3. Pass and play in partner's suit without a fit. 4. Lie to your partner, which is definitely your last resort. When I have had 4432 with a worthless doubleton in opponent's suit and only 3 cards in partner's suit, I tend to pass and hope partner can do well with what may be only 7 trumps. The worst case is the bane of all Bridge players: the Splinter. With 4441, the singleton must be in partner's suit, so I tend to look at NT, using partner's suit to fill my weakness. There is a specific convention for dealing with Splinters, which I will cover one day, but it is extremely dangerous and only suitable for quite experienced players. I hope this has helped clarify things for you. Cheers Jad.

    5:27 Sorry if this is a lame question, I am a beginner, but how do you know partner's 1heart bid is weak,less than 7 points?

    • @jadbridge
      @jadbridge  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Marcia. There is no such thing as a lame question. When you double and the next opponent passes, your partner cannot pass. They must bid something and with 7 points or less they make the cheapest bid in their best suit. But, not the suit bid by your opponents. With more than 7 points and a biddable suit, they would jump bid. In this case that means 2H. So, a 1H bid shows a max of 7 points. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask questions at any time. Cheers.

    Deal191 - What does one do with five small spades and say a diamond ace ?

    • @jadbridge
      @jadbridge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Asha, thanks for your question. I hope I understand it correctly. If you swap the Spade Ace for a small Spade and the Diamond 8 for the Diamond Ace, you still have 18 points and a long Spade suit, so the bidding would be the same. If I have misunderstood, just let me know all the cards.
