Some movies, like Lawrence of Arabia and 2001, could easily become boring if not seen on the largest possible screen with high quality sound. In such films, cinematography and sound design are just as essential as any other aspect and I don't believe can be given due justice on equipment most people have in their homes. So, when someone who I know appreciates movies tells me they thought LoA was boring, I ask HOW they viewed it.

Lingua Ignota's Caligula is awesome. Your music taste is great. Also heard climax was great, going to watch later. Are you into Björk?
Happiness isn't accepting how life is. I think it's realizing the changes needed to make life better and then aim for those. You can't fix things out of your control, but you can with what your in control over. To help yourself and others. Not that I do this all the time, going through other shit rn, but i think that's right to do. Artificial happiness can come from entertainment, but I think true happiness is what I said before. Recently been getting into philosophy and reading this stuff has changed my mind on some important things. I used to be pretty pessimistic, thinking the world is fucked and will never get better. I'm not 100% optimistic now, but I'm closer to that than the former.

Thanks for the response Maggie. I actually just saw Lawrence of Arabia for the first time on the big screen a couple of months ago and it was a one-of-a-kind experience. I almost can’t imagine seeing the film any other way. That said I did feel a slight disconnect from Lawrence’s character and O’Toole’s performance, particularly in the second half of the film after the intermission. Everything up until that point I thought was fantastic but I do confess to finding myself getting a little bored and disinterested in the later parts of the film. I read a quote somewhere from Scorsese I think that he said when he was working with Lean to get a new, lengthier cut of the film edited that he got the sense that Lean had never really finished editing the film to begin with and could have done even more work on it after that, which I can definitely see. That second half felt a little sloppy to me personally which brought down the experience just a bit. That said I will absolutely give it another shot somewhere down the line, especially after what you’ve said about your experience and hopefully it will continue to grow on me. Many of my favorite films have come from first viewings where I felt conflicted, plus those were just some of the most stunning images I’ve ever seen captured on film. Lovely video ❤️
