      @BinhNguyen-sn4sl it doesn't. Do what you want. My point is you wouldn't trade that 9 or 10 for my card that has banged up corners. You would look over that card to see what it could grade at and thats ok. As kids we didn't care you just wanted your favorite player and for the most part it didn't cost hundreds of dollars to get. I dont buy super expensive cards but others do and that's cool bc its part of the hobby. I continue to buy what I like.

    I have a mosaic white sparkle Anthony richardson card and on the back the film is lifting up on the top of the card where the edge is. Would a heat press bond it back together or should I just try and get a replacement from panini?

    • @nothingbutcardboard
      @nothingbutcardboard  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would be very careful with a heat press as you can damage the card further. But if you have a similar mosaic Prizm card, I would test it with that first. I have had cards delaminate in the past and had some success wetting the card with rubbing alcohol and then clamping it between two plates. You could try to send it back to panini, but I have had a damaged card there for over two years with no movement. Your other option would be to sell as is. If you decided to try to repair make sure to test the method on another card first. Best of luck!

    So i found that on Bowman Chrome, this worked absolute wonders. However, i have noticed on Prizm Basketball that if im really trying to work a print line or scratch out, i end up with this hazy splotchy kind of surface in some areas. It almost looks like tape residue, maybe too aggressive with the polish and sponge and damaged the top coat with heat or abbrasion? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    • @nothingbutcardboard
      @nothingbutcardboard  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad to hear it’s working! Now as far as the haze goes, it is probably because you are only working a small portion of the card and probably pushing pretty hard. You can try to even it out on the rest of the card, but that will take some elbow grease as well. The Meguiar’s is mildly abrasive, so try not to push overly hard for long periods of time in just one spot or you may get that haze. It is possible you took the entire top coat off of the card if you spent an excessively long time on it. Unfortunately, not all print lines will come out, but most cards will get better. Hope this helps!

      Unfortunately the back surface is much more difficult since it has a paper finish. If you rub the back of a Prizm hard too hard with Meguiar’s it can take the paint off since it is slightly abrasive. You can try lightly rubbing, but I have not been very successful. Yes and yes. It is not a miracle worker, but you can get small print line, scratches, and blemishes out of the card. However, you need to be careful, especially with the mcguires. Mcguires has some abrasive properties, so I would not use it on a paper card. It is also a liquors, so you don’t want to expose it to the sides of a chrome card because you may cause delamination or color staining. I would recommend testing it on a cheap card from the same set to practice if possible. As far as the Kurt’s wax goes, you probably won’t damage the card with it, but you don’t want to get wax stuck in stamps on the card. Hope this helps.

      Sometimes that is just the way it goes unfortunately. Some scratches are too deep and won’t completely come out. It should at a minimum make it less noticeable. Just keep applying coats until it’s not making a difference. You can also try Meguuair’s scratch-x. IT can help with deeper stuff, but be careful because it is a little more abrasive than the ultimate compound and can leave fogginess/rings. Hope this helps

    The comic book hobby went through this controversy 20+ years ago (cleaning and heat pressing to remove defects)… it is now accepted as it is undetectable too expensive to do so. It’s now widely accepted and comics are often advertised as ‘never pressed’ as an added bonus, meaning the collector can press the book and see a grade bump if submitted.
    Also, reportedly, people (including high end investors) were already doing this for years before the average collector was aware. I suspect the same is happening with the card market.
    Those opposed might as well accept it as where there’s a will, there’s a way.
    I see no issue here.

They won't even clean off dust before they grade them but I'm sure it's a liability thing. Secondly, it's cleaned off. It's not like Daniel waxed on and decided not to wax off. Well, everyoone has their opinion... Heres the deal and im sure the card slab bozos will eventually follow suit. Its a no no to clean the crap of an coin. However, if you pay them, they will remove anything you want with the same same stuff that if you used it and submitted, you receive a slab saying cleaned or rough clean. Now isnt that hypocritical!!! If thats the, if you cracked the case and resubmitted to another company, you should come back with a cleaned coin correct??? The other end is that, you arent paid, so your not a professional., when and how did the graders concoct there mystery fluids ahhh you tube??? Too much hypocricy in the collecting word. Imho, if its yours you should be able to do whatever you want. If you ever go to sell, honest disclosure. Its just a bunch of bs!!! These oriental cards in most cases are scratched to crap and dinged right out of a pack that was in a bax that cost 40 bucks plus with tax. In first grade I bought my first pack of TOPPS baseball cards. NINE CENTS for the pack! No one gave a hoot about grading and slabbing. A few years later, we started figuring out how to assigning grades such as we now pay psa for, correct... They charge a heftey price and have been proven to be off half the time by resubbing. Its all hypocricy. These companies want you to belIieve you need them so they have a job and stay in business. Authenication is all any are good for and thats if they are qualified! I personally had a Dimaggio ball pass, then fail trying to get a second cert. So where are we... Hypocricy. No one needs these high priced ass clowns! Way back then, nor do they today. These slabbers have totally destroyed the hobby!!!! My point is. Card collecting is still a childs hobby, but how many first graders are going to pull 2 andrew jacksons out of their pocket while stopping at the store on their way home from school...

Similar to asking my wife if she's mad and her saying "no" when she clearly is. You're not a fan, i get it because you think it's unethical even if you can't tell the difference if the cards were right in front of you. Yet you wish upon a company to charge people without providing the service paid for as a form of punishment which is actually unethical in every way possible. I don't mind the difference in opinions, I don't comprehend the negativity. It'd be like me getting upset that you sent a card in for grading that had no chance for 10 then having to watch you get irritated about it because you don't know why you got a 9.

      @teknoGoblin207 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @juanpablobendana6235 so sports cards aren't like cars. There's not a lot protecting the chrome from anything. Cars have a clear coating on them, and that's why you can use this to buff out scratches. When you use car scratch remover on a card, the abrasive compounds break down the surfaces of the card, and the chemicals in the remover can interact with the card over time. This used to happen to Topps Chrome cards in the 90s because the ink they used would chemically interact with the chrome.
      You're never going to be able to get rid of ALL surface scratches. Sometimes, a scratch is just too deep and you're SOL. But for minor to moderate scratches, all you really need is Kurt's card wax and polish, a little time, patience, and elbow grease.

    • @markmaestas1129
      @markmaestas1129 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@nothingbutcardboard It's unethical. You aren't just cleaning the card, you are altering it. The Meguiars has fine abrasives in it. So you are actually "sanding" the glossy coat to remove the scratches which makes the glossy coat thinner. The card is altered and might discolor or fade easier. Grading and or selling a card like this is unethical and bad for the hobby.

    • @frostyfeetcards
      @frostyfeetcards 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @markmaestas1129 Cleaning is not altering. If they were filling print lines, trimming, adding color, it would be bad. Fact is they are just cleaning off post production issues caused by who knows what is not unethical. You can't will your way to a 10 if the card doesn't have the components of a 10. Stop the shaming. You can keep sending in thumb printed cards and slow rolled scratches but shaming people based on (it'll blow your mind) your opinion is unethical as they are not part of the card to begin with. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a cleaned card and one that hasn't been so unmount from your high horse and just leave people be. Washing my car because of dirt witbout disclosing it before a sale isn't unethical. Painting it without telling anyone it's been painted is.

You don't have to partake, but you don't get to decide what is right or wrong when nobody can actually tell if a card has been cleaned or not.
