"Doncic questioned Carlisle's authority in front of the team on at least one occasion early in the 2020-21 season: "Who's in charge -- you or Bob?" Doncic barked on his way back to the bench during an early-season game. He was referring to then-Mavs director of quantitative research Haralabos "Bob" Voulgaris, whose rise in power played a role in Dallas' front-office dysfunction and who many players believed dictated lineups and rotation decisions to Carlisle. Carlisle relied heavily on Voulgaris' data but always had final say, team sources said.
In another instance, Doncic had just drawn his third foul midway through the third quarter of last season's playoff opener and was upset that Carlisle had opted to substitute for him. Carlisle ignored the superstar's gesture that indicated he wanted to play through foul trouble.
As Jalen Brunson checked in, Doncic briefly took his glare off Carlisle, dropping his head and clenching his fingers, squeezing the air as if he were crushing something in his hands. Doncic barked at Carlisle as he walked toward the Dallas bench, shaking his head along the way.
Doncic didn't stop at his seat at the end of the bench, stomping another 10 steps until he reached the short wall at the bottom of the arena's lower bowl. He leaned against the wall, rested his head on top of his arms, turned his back to the floor and remained there for most of the Clippers' ensuing possession. When he returned to the bench, Doncic stood and again shouted in Carlisle's direction before finally taking his seat."
Carlisle knew he was gonna get fired because of Luka wanting the team to function in a different way and the Mavs siding with him, so he resigned. That franchise is held hostage under Luka's control, you could see that in the way Luka yelled at the bench to challenge an obvious foul call and they cowered and they all bent the knee to Prince Luka to appease him.

Rod Thorn drafted MJ, not Krause. Jordan was the one who took responsibility and adapted his game when he kept losing to the Pistons, he decided to put on 20 lbs of muscle in the offseason, fully trust his teammates, and become the leader they needed in order to get past them, and assert their dominance.
Krause did gets credit for hiring Tex Winters, who incorporated the triangle, Phil, Scottie Kukoc, trading for numerous role players like Cartwright, etc. He was inducted into the hall of fame. So he did get credit. And I have no problem with it.
But guess how the rebuild went. Once he finally had a chance to operate out of MJ's shadow? It was an unmitigated disaster, that went so poorly he left basketball altogether.
So let's not pretend building around the g.o.a.t. didn't help him tremendously.

2 things can be true lol so Gil and Rashad both right but ima side with Gil tho slightly..times are def changing and with the way teams are willing to fire a coach and have him on the books for 3-4 years after the fact literally gives the power to players..:if your not a players coach nowadays its just a matter of time before your let go

Gil is speaking from a perspective of a father who also has a child that’s an athlete. That’s what the guys on here not understanding. Our high school team this year did terrible. We had two players walk off the court and quit the team. Other kids had no spirit. Our coach is like late 40s and coached how we were coached 20 years ago. Them kids couldn’t take it.

It's funny how bad everyone's memory is when it comes to Darvin Ham. Dlo and Reaves were averaging 20 and got benched for Cam Reddish and TP. The Lakers then went on their worst stretch of the season. When the Lakers ran the lineups that everyone thought were the obvious choices they were a top 5 team in the league statistically. Darvin Ham avoided those lineups like they were the plague. At no point during the season did Ham run back the starting 5 that got the Lakers to the WCF. During that 2OT game against the Warriors, Vando had the highest +/- on the team and TP had the lowest. TP started the next 2 months. In the last game against the Nuggets all the guys who impacted winning were healthy, and in a closeout game for the season there is NO REASON to stick to rotation that's obviously not working. Ham did not play Vando, Wood, or Christie EVEN WHEN THEIR BIGGEST WEAKNESS WAS WING DEFENSE. Darvin Ham wasn't just bad he was HORRIBLE. With Frank Vogel both 2023 and 2024 are finals/championship years.

@MrBadass773 OK, but you missing my point. I'm not saying a former NBA player can't be a great coach, but usually former NBA players don't win championships, but I digress. My point is, the Van Gundy's, the Popoviches, the Riley's, etc., are a dying breed. And those type coaches, get you rings.

Gil is right though... The players today have a different culture. The players have been given way too much power. And the players today talk accountability, but they really don't want it. This is the era off the player's power. It's very few teams where players respect coaches.
