That's a first attmpt home refret job if I've ever seen one. Watched a video or two on TH-cam, ordered jumbo stainless steel fretwire from ebay (knowing it had to be "the best"), then butchered the fretboard trying to use the mechanics tools he already had in his garage to cut, fit and install the frets. Once glued into the slots, he didn’t bother to level, crown or dress the frets (considering how difficult it was for him to simply knock the ends down enough that they wouldn't make him bleed when he ran his fingers along the neck binding, using the old wood working file he found at the bottom of the tool box he inherited from his grandpa), so he just left them as is.... "my guy duz hundrid doller fret jobz"
I've been through this kinda crap before too. What a pain in the ass and you wind up just having to compromise because there's just hardly another choice when you want the thing.

We arent the same. I would have gone completely out of my way to feed him the entire bag o dyks. Im petty like that. I just went through a somewhat similar incident, except mine was with a retailer. Im still thankful though, because it led me to finding a phenomenal deal on a prs 245 standard.
I appreciate that the sellers name isn’t blurred towards the end… buddy deserves to be put on blast. Or… here’s notice to correct this in the video if you’d prefer :)
Exactly why I quit buying anything on eBay for years but now I’m looking to get back into it because a lot of the amplifiers that I want can be bought used dirt cheap.
you are far more patient than I. I would've said, "OK well enjoy your penalty" after the first back and forth emails and sent it back. But I don't run a YT channel with 100,000+ subscribers.
"My tech does refrets for $100" well if that's true that would explain the awful refret because any pro tech/luthier who knows what they're doing definitely won't charge only $100 for refrets. Especially if it's stainless steel
Yes, it was absolutley not as described. Yes, with the mods devaluing the value, the added cost of repairs and the aggravation of dealing with the idiot seller you have likely overpaid. (might get a few $ selling the Bigsby off? Assuming it's a real one) But - if this is speaking to you and the neck feels great - add a sprinkling of Wendell magic - and this could end up being your favorite guitar.
That top is beautiful. Any premium you paid you get back in character and vibe. Can't imagine who his luthier is though. $100 for a refret is the cheapest I've ever heard. $285 considering the wood damage is pretty reasonable.
I never even seen a fret job that bad, it's worth about 3000 if u ask me, broken neck , changed parts, bad fret job. However, it's a player frets done right and it will be awesome. What matters is if u like it.
It'll be about as much work salvaging those frets as it would be to replace them completely. Admittedly that is the quality of work I'd expect from a tech that only charges $100 for a refret. There's always someone who can do it cheaper.
That fretboard is FKD but i'm excited to see how it turns out once Wendel is done fixing it up! Congrats on the birth year custom! I hope to one day do the same.
Never ever buy anything that listed without high quality pictures. Sometimes the sellers are poor photographers - but more often it’s intentional to hide something
That really sucks man! I dealt with something similar to this but on a much smaller scale. The item only cost me $200 but it’s the principle of undisclosed problems.
The guitar is admittedly cool as hollywood. I might have thrown a bid on it - had I seen it listed. That body flame is classic !. Even with the dreadful fretwork - you got something that will turn every head - and a great story lol. I love a guitar I don't have to worry about.
I had a similar situation with an SG I bought on reverb. Was refretted without being disclosed and it wasn’t great. Many chips and divots in the fretboard. Got some money back from the seller but he got douchey about it. You definitely should of sent this turd back to that clown of a seller.
Wow.. you got me a little nervous there because that guitar is a keeper, i know that you did lose some money but sometimes thats the route you gotta go, that top looks sick, plus you can mod it just as you like.. :D
That top is amazing. That would be a great project guitar if you are willing to spend the money to repair the neck correctly with splines. It will be stronger than when it first left the factory.
You have more patience than I have because he would've gotten that guitar back most definitely. Of course I'm pretty sure I'd have never paid whatever you paid for it either. That's the worst refret I've ever seen and there's no excuse for the damage done to the fingerboard. It looks like they just pried the other frets out and tried to beat the new ones in there. It's just crazy! Lol
I had a similar situation last fall with a set of used Mustang wheels (from a reputable vendor) that were not as advertised. I ended up having to get a full refund when the seller just would not own up to the fact that they didn’t look at them before they listed them. Not my problem as you correctly stated.
This dude definitely knew about the damage beforehand. I'm convinced. They were trying to get away with selling it for more because they knew they couldn't get a bidder if they had to disclose those fret and fretboard issues. No way you can't notice the fretwork and fretboard damage while owning and playing that guitar.
100 dollar re fret my ass A guy asked me labor to rebuild an Ls truck motor I told them I didn’t want to do it he said how much I finally said if he did the leg work and supply parts and had whatever machine work and balancing done just putting it together on a stand 500 , he said my buddy said he’d do it r&r for 300 I told him that he better drop it off with his buddy right now lol
I can only imagine, lol. I have done a bit of it, small scale, on Craigslist over the last 10 or 12 years, in a VERY rural New England area. I have had some crazy interactions with scheming weasels, and met some really cool people that I have kept in touch with and continued doing deals. It runs the gammit. In the end, it's very fun.

Awesome vid! Thanks for sharing! I would of sent it back though! Fuk that “bag of dicks” lol! I lost it when you said that. I could totally hear the anger and frustration in your voice. 😂
oof no waayyyy man i would've returned it in a heartbeat and went on shopping for the next one lol. I hope it fixes up nice for you.
I hope you attach this video to the eBay review 😂
Exactly why I quit buying anything on eBay for years but now I’m looking to get back into it because a lot of the amplifiers that I want can be bought used dirt cheap.
Do us a favor and “accidentally” leak his info so we can go make fun of him
You handled that *extremely* well. One of the truly good eBay'ers for sure. A+++ buyer excellent communication!
I think you did okay in the deal in the end. Dealing with people like that is a nightmare
Some people man I tell ya. You treated that guy better than I would have. Good on ya.
you are far more patient than I.
I would have sent it back. You were more than patient.
Yes, it was absolutley not as described.
Yes, with the mods devaluing the value, the added cost of repairs and the aggravation of dealing with the idiot seller you have likely overpaid. (might get a few $ selling the Bigsby off? Assuming it's a real one)
But - if this is speaking to you and the neck feels great - add a sprinkling of Wendell magic - and this could end up being your favorite guitar.
13:13 I love angry Hunter. Doesn't even censor the fucks at this point and I'm all here for it.
Dude I loved the way you handled this whole situation!!! I can’t believe someone screwed a Bixby to the beautiful top on that guitar???
He mishandled the situation, negotiating with that fool.
This video was 100% total entertainment
Really looking forward to seeing the pics after the repairs. Awesome top!!
It'll be about as much work salvaging those frets as it would be to replace them completely.
Admittedly that is the quality of work I'd expect from a tech that only charges $100 for a refret. There's always someone who can do it cheaper.
“There’s always a cheaper fish”
Good for you not being petty. I’d have sent that thing back with a smile on my face.
That fretboard is FKD but i'm excited to see how it turns out once Wendel is done fixing it up! Congrats on the birth year custom! I hope to one day do the same.
0:49 The Dog,......"Please,.........no more guitars!" 🤣
That refret definitely looks worth $100, I believe him
Never ever buy anything that listed without high quality pictures. Sometimes the sellers are poor photographers - but more often it’s intentional to hide something
That really sucks man! I dealt with something similar to this but on a much smaller scale. The item only cost me $200 but it’s the principle of undisclosed problems.
Damn totally never happened to me...
I'm not surprised at the sellers attitude. So many things on eBay are listed as "rare" when they are quite common.
This video highlights the single reason I’ve always decided against buying guitars on eBay.
Wow.. you got me a little nervous there because that guitar is a keeper, i know that you did lose some money but sometimes thats the route you gotta go, that top looks sick, plus you can mod it just as you like.. :D
That top is amazing. That would be a great project guitar if you are willing to spend the money to repair the neck correctly with splines. It will be stronger than when it first left the factory.
"Mod it to my specs"
So, paint it pink, and put in some Matt Heafy signature Fishman pickups?
eBays gonna eBay. Would of shipped it back after that guys first email reply
Lol
Not only was he shit on by the seller, but he never disclosed how much he paid; vital info missing.
Yeah those 90's birth year customs are off the charts! I was born in 1965.
100 dollar re fret my ass
A guy asked me labor to rebuild an Ls truck motor I told them I didn’t want to do it he said how much I finally said if he did the leg work and supply parts and had whatever machine work and balancing done just putting it together on a stand 500 , he said my buddy said he’d do it r&r for 300 I told him that he better drop it off with his buddy right now lol
I would have sent it back, and issued a fraud report. You got blinded by the top 😂
I've bought and sold guitars for over 40 years...good Lord, the stories I could tell...
