I agree...plus I've come to prefer the guitar tones post Black album. The 96-99 era of tones were the best they ever got, outside of KEA. I thought Master and Justice's tones were too processed sounding, too scooped out. Black Album's tones were OK, but the first time I heard Aint My Bitch or It's Electric?.....I was like "THAT!"

After doing one and learning a bunch of things, I am reasonably confident I can get a pretty nice Lp., even the veneer was quite nice. Strings at 3/16inch at 16th fret, ridges all around the binding taped incorrectly put before painting the gold ... qc is the worst in the entire galaxy... but I after a good truss rod job, fret job and bindinding scrapping, the tone and playability is perfect! The gold is almost gone around the binding but it look a little oldy which is the "Saveur du jour" (Murphy lab non sense). In my mind, Brand new Epiphone is not always a good move but used one at cheaper price is probably a better way to go.

I bought the epi LP junior in 2019, utter rubbish, high frets and trashed hardware.
2022 epi 60s standard LP, sharp fret ends length of neck, top and bottom, tuners loose, nut cut horribly, volume and tone knobs wobbly and not level.
2023 my final and last epi I will ever buy, a LP standard 59! Had to replace the nut! 4 of the slots cut too deep! The low E string saddle was so sharp I had to file the edge down, volume and tone knobs unlevel and wobbling, the tuning keys loose and skipping. I literally spent days replacing parts, working on/setting this guitar up to get in playable and to stay in tune! This for a 1000 buck guitar! The final kick in the nuts, when you sell an epi you are lucky to get 40% of what you paid for it. Again, I will never buy another POS epi.

Transportation costs are astronomical for any manufacturer. With the US Navy reducing its footprint on the world’s oceans, insurance costs have skyrocketed for shipping all products. That is a big parts of it. Shipping affects every step of the manufacturing process.

Can't quite relate with the seemingly endless price increases, on what's essentially the same guitar('59 LP). When they came out originally at $799, with Gibson Burstbucker 2&3 pickups and a Lifton style hardcase. I was all over them. I've had 4 now, and 3 other Epiphones since 2019 when they started the Inspired by Gibson lines. But after the AJ sig. dropped( I've got a "The Berserker" model), it's gotten out of control! $1299 is really pushing it, but the AJ sig. is a very highly spec'd offering. I'm just not seeing the same value in most of these other models from Epiphone at that price or higher? Am I missing something? Do people really value a headstock shape that much? Crazy.

Man that guitar was not popular with players back when it came out Jimmy Page used one at one concert and never used it again. It was only made from 1977 to 1982 and discontinued due to poor sales. Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth used them from 1993 to 1999 then around 2004 Lee Malia from Bring Me the Horizon used them and then the guys in Ghost started using them. Then that guitar got all popular with all the dudes in the stoner, doom, sludge metal bands and that is why people want them now. Gibson/Epiphone only makes those every so often as they do not sell well. So don't count on them making that model as apart of their normal run of guitars. They are gonna only do it periodically and jack the price on them to bleed peoples wallets that like those guitars. Just not enough people want them.

All the new "inspired by Gibson" Epiphones I've played so far have scratchy frets, flimsy pickup switches and they actually lie about the wiring on some models, claiming they have '50s wiring when they actually don't. Coupled with the constantly raising prices (hey, pandemic is over, shit's gone back to normal, now they're just scalping), Gibson is just clearly taking the piss.

Just picked up a Tak Matsumoto Custom DC off of Reverb, the 2014 model, and it is mint and flawless. Also got a custom LP Black Beauty, bought it new, and it's a very well made guitar. I have a custom SG on the way as well and hoping that I'm 3 for 3. To give you some perspective, I also just bought a Gibson custom shop SG and one of the new LP Supremes. I'm happy to go back and forth between the Gibsons and Epiphones. In the past I've had standard Gibson SGs and Epiphone SGs (when they were G-400s) at the same time and, once again, could go back and forth with no problem. There are differences for sure, but you eventually reach a price point where anything over that you're just paying for aesthetics, US production, and name brand. To me, both Gibson and Epiphone are quality and you can get a bad one from both companies. I have to say I've been lucky and out of the 10 Gibsons/Epiphones I've played over the years, they've all been quality instruments.

A couple weeks ago, I bought an Epiphone Marty Schwartz 335 and an Epiphone LP Studio in White. I already have a 2020 Gibson LP in Tangerine, but REALLY wanted a white one ( like Lindsay Buckingham in the early days of Fleetwood Mac). I paid $765 for a 'blemished' Marty Schwartz (I still can't find the blemish), and $529 for the LP Studio. Starting with the Studios, the Epiphone is literally the best sounding Les Paul I've heard or played, and my lead guitarist has a Gibson 59' Reissue he paid $5k for. I like my Studio better, but that's just me. Maybe the white color has affected my ears.
The bigger deal is the 335. I've never played a 'real' Gibson 335, but I have watched well over 100 videos of studio recordings, test comparisons versus every guitar known to man (into the board and through a mic'd amp), and I just can't tell the difference between the Marty Schwartz and an actual Gibson 335. A friend of mine has a 2015 Gibson 335 he plays through a JC-120. When he hooked up the Marty Schwartz, he started laughing. He couldn't tell any noticeable difference in the sound from his 335 (after fiddling with the EQ for about 2 minutes), and he liked the MS 335's neck better. The Epi MS 335 sounds like pretty much any 335 from 68' to 74', depending on the EQ. It does not sound like any other sub-$2000 guitar I own, in a good way. Everyone that has had it in their hands simply calls it 'authentic', and can't believe Epiphone made something that beautiful and capable. I've owned 5-6 Epiphones before 2023, and while good guitars, I wouldn't have called them great guitars. All have moved on to better homes if that's any indication. The two new Epi's I just purchased are a different animal. I've heard things about Epiphone lately, about their quality and sound commitment changes, but until I bought mine, I thought the difference would be marginal at best. That is not the case.
Epiphone is on fire right now. The guitars they are making at this moment in time are absolutely amazing. Maybe it's a dream team of luthiers who all might retire in a year or two, but I feel so lucky to have these two guitars, and everytime someone plays one, that is just confirmed over and over for me by their reactions. And yes, I bought the MS 335 because I couldn't justify $3700 for an actual Gibson 335. I have ZERO regrets, and two other guys I know are already looking into buying their own.
The point being that people who think $1500 for an Epiphone is stupid, have probably not played NEW Epiphones. While I have not played the Epi Greenie, I can tell you the previous Epiphone's I purchased in 2020 (an LP Modern and a Sheraton Pro 2) were not even close to the new Epi's I now own - and I really liked that Sheraton. I recommend trying the guitar if you are slightly interested. I'm not sure what the resale will be in 10-15 years, but as far as quality goes, what I have now blows away other guitars I've bought from ESP Japan and Gibson Nashville. They really are that good.

Guitars have become like jeans, or shoes. Put some name along with it and suddenly it cost more than it’s worth, and it becomes the just gotta have thing! I like Epiphone, got a good deal on a rare Wilshire, and it already has doubled in price used from what it cost me brand new! Is it worth the price they are now wanting for it? Heck no! I don’t think I could even have a clear conscience to sell it for the puffed up price, just because it’s rare! To me everything has a function and is worth what it can function as. If I get the same function out of something that cost me $1, why would I want to pay $100 for the same thing. But I guess a name, the status of people knowing you own it, and all that, means more to people than just the use of it. Thus we have jeans that cost $70, that are no better than jeans that cost $30, and shoes that cost $150 that are no better than shoes that cost $60. Because of some name attached to them!

Epiphone was once a high end brand, before Gibson bought it and used it as a cheaper alternative to sell their models in stores that wouldn't take Gibsons. Epi has been working hard the past decade at least to upgrade everything and ultimately reach 2 goals: still having lower priced versions of Gibson but returning the brand to the high end status as well. They're still on a learning curve but they'll get there. Inflation or not....

What’s the Headstock tilt on the Epi Greeny? If it’s 14 degrees isn’t that the superior angle that stabilizes the tuning? People have ranted for years that Gibsons 17 degree headstock tilt caused tuning stability issues. So now we have an Epi phone Les Paul, with Gibson pickups, a True Gibson open book headstock, with a possible 14 degree headstock tilt and we’re whining about the $1500 price tag? Yes, it’s a lot but is this not what Epi fans have been asking for for years?? I think we should be thanking Gibson/Epiphone that they have finally done this. I’d love to have one, but I play left handed. If they had a left handed version of Greeny I would totally get one. I’ve been saying this collectibility ploy was thing by the time the pandemic ended and the prices didn’t drop to reflect that as the availability of workers, materials, shipping, etc. all became little to non-existent issues. I’ve still had people laugh at me to this day, but in 20-40 years when the Gibson collectibles of today’s yesteryear start to become to fragile to play and nearly impossible to get at less than 6 figures, I don’t think they’ll be laughing when you have to dig DEEP into those pockets to get the _____ guitar you had in 2020-23 Today’s Epiphones are arguably in their heyday like Gibson in the 50’s, and I really think these recent Epiphones will be more desirable to collect than today’s Gibsons. Gibson isn’t stupid - they saw an opportunity to turn something seen as a pariah into something more (which wouldn’t have happened if they didn’t manage to up the quality of these Chinese guitars).
So if anyone here is planning on leaving any guitars to loved ones, maybe leave a note in the case/s to be careful with your Epiphone ______ and hang onto it because there’s a real likelihood that the value of many models could skyrocket. Even models like the LP Modern or some of the very low end ones could end up with major value. Think of all the affordable models of the 50’s and 60’s from both the electric and acoustic Gibson lines that people trashed and now there are few to be had with people clamoring to get something that was a student model for big bucks because it was their first guitar or it holds some other special value. Even the extra parts may end up with some value.

Seems like Epiphone is now positioned as more Fender MIM equivalent than the Squier equivalent it had been for years. Just like with Fender MIM, the main lineup is pretty reasonably priced (although Fender Player models are creeping up) with the expensive end landing the artist guitars. Knee jerk is that the Greeny is way to much for an Ep, but then I look at something like the Jason Isbell Tele, which is a guitar that would be sitting beside me right now if I didn't balk at the thought of an almost $1700 MIM Fender. Love the MIM stuff, but when compared to Epiphone I can't get too mad at Gibson if I don't throw the same vitriol at Fender. Granted....MIMs do say Fender on the headstock.
