First guitar: Fender Sonoran SCE Acoustic (Cutaway with Strat Headstock)
Fist Electric was also a Squier S/S/S strat. Many fun stickers, not added by me. $50 at a garage sale not a bad way to begin :) No upgrades yet. Someday.
Still have both. I write most of my music on the acoustic. The strat stares at my back all day while I work. Someday strat.

a Jaxville "Zeus" cheap strat clone, with a wonderfully cheesy lightning graphic as part of the finish! Currently a husk with Wilkinson tuners and an Aria neck, I plan to build it up as a Billie Joe Armstrong-inspired thing, with the angled humbucker. Previously had it with that, no middle pickup, an Epiphone 3-way switch and master volume and tone.

I saw it at a garage sale when I was 9 and begged my mom to buy it. The old man who was selling it saw how bad I wanted it and said to my mom "ten bucks and its his." So we pack this dirty busted tweed case into my moms Toyota Tercel hatchback and take it home. My dad was a guitar player and as soon as he saw me bring in the case he looked shocked asked me where the hell i got it. So I tell him the story still not having a clue what kind of guitar it was. We opened that case to reveal a 1956 fender musicmaster. Red with a gold aluminum pickguard. All original except the volume pot. I hammered out years of songs with no friends to jam with or learn from (or amp). That guitar was pretty much the only Possession that mattered to me. It sparked a lifelong passion for a music that for me has quite literally given my life value at points where I couldn't see any. Looking back I feel like if it weren't for that little fender nobody wanted i wouldn't have been around to end up later giving my son his first strat (at 4years old lol).I'm in my late 30's now and I have lots of guitars. I'm happy to say of all the shitty mistakes I've made along the way, I still have it. Its not going anywhere. The only way I will ever part with that guitar is if I ever meet some kid who needs it as bad as I did when that old man saw me tearing up asking my mom for something i knew damn well we couldn't afford. I Still think about him sometimes and it blows my mind to realize how much that one unselfish act has echoed through my entire life. Moral of the story. If you have 20 guitars and don't play one of them... please donate it. You really could change someone's life.

Jesus Christ loves you so much and He will save us from our sins if we put our faith and trust in Him! because we all sinned and fell short of Gods perfect glory (romans 3:23) and the wages of sin is eternal death! (romans 6:23) but the gift of God is this
      john 3:16-21
"for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. this is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposes. but whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God."
      and romans 10:9-13
"if you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. for it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. as scripture says, "anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame. "for there is no difference between Jew and Gentile - the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him, for, "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
so God is coming at a time we least expect, and if we put our faith and trust in Him He will gift us His grace and clothe us with the righteousness of His blood (but of course death could not hold Him, He is risen!) and we will have eternal life in His kingdom where there will be there will be no more death, or sorrow, or crying. there will be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. because He loves you so much! (romans 5:6-8) but if we deny and reject Him and don't repent from our sins to follow God, then we will have our part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. because no liar, no thief, no blasphemer (using Gods name in vain as a cuss word to express anger or disgust) and no adulterer (Jesus Christ says in matthew 5 that anyone who just looks at someone to lust for they’re an adultery at heart) will enter the kingdom of heaven. so hear these words, repent and believe the gospel! accept Jesus Christ and confess your sins to Him so that He will forgive you and give you a life with truth and real love and joy and peace that this world can never give you or fulfill in you you! and the love and joy and peace that He will give you will never fade away or perish. this is all if you haven't done this yet and Jesus Christ hasn't saved you yet, also when you have time please you should watch this channel here on youtube called "Christ forgiveness ministries" and hear what they have to say, glory to God. God bless you! 🙌👑💟 •.

The neck aged and darkened beautifully, and the white body faded and darkened alot. It looks great. I upgraded the pickups, hipshot tuners, Switchcraft output jack, and added a mint green pickguard. Want to do the bridge but it has the thinner body. It looks damn near just like the vintage strat Robert Baker got not too long ago, just not worth near the money. Haha. I love it, and it was an awesome experience to give her a makeovers. I'll never get rid of it. Happy for you!

Its been a blast restoring it! so far, a good deep cleaning, prewired pickguard with Alnico 5 pickups and a good setup. the pickguard I got is black with white trim. pickups and knobs are white. looks AMAZING! and when I play it, it feels so familiar. Tunings ranging from Standard to drop B and EVERYTHING in between.. Carving the finish, stickers, bumbs, bruises.. I eventually replaced every part (except the body and neck) refinished it and sold it. It's been almost 10 years and I definitely wish I kept it around.

Still have my first guitar, three tone sunburst “Starcaster by Fender” from costco with an arrow headstock. Its gone through a lot of iterations, guitar hero stickers, anarchy sign made out of electrical tape, woody guthrie TMKF card, but now 15 years later ive spray painted it black and red with different band symbols on it. Also had to swap the neck as the frets were done, so i have a mighty mite maple neck with maple fretboard on it currently. For pickups i took out the original god knows what single coils made in indonesia and put in lace sensors which sound really unique and cool. Also removed one of the tone pots like you did to make more room for my picking hand so its now master volume master tone. So thankful to still have it after all these years!

Basically did a High Intergrity build with my first guitar last year.
Early 90's Washburn Chicago series HSS strat.
Unfortunately, part way through, found it was made of plywood - but kept going anyway.
Stripped off the paint, chopped part of the back away, reshaped the horns, cut in a Vai Monkey Grip, full custom paint (with glitter), new (cheap) pickups and tuners. Refurbed the Floyd copy that was on it.
It's just a fun thing to pick up - does not sound the best, but I may upgrade the pickups at some point.
But for having my first guitar still - priceless.

On the pot if you have a extra retainging nut you can adjust the height. I use the same trick on my footswitch buttons. Basically thread on one nut onto the pot stick it through the pickguard and thread the second one on. The one on the underside will be used to set your knob height. The one the outside locks it into place.

Im already convinced that if you put a EMG 81/85 into any guitar, ANY guitar then you can make it a super metal guitar.
I wish I could start doing this to my first guitar which was a Behringer strat copy guitar. I can do it, I have all the skills, but the neck is.... well I bumped it and somehow I thought it was a good idea to mindlessly rub a razorblade to remove the dirt from the fretboard so it now has a bunch of marks on the maple neck. Everything else is okay. It has a few spots on the body in which you can see through the black paint to the unfinished body, but I could.
Though it would be better to buy like a Kramer special baretta or any other type of strat guitar and modify it instead. its cheaper and overall better.

First guitar was a Strat clone from a company called Tradition. Still have it, and I'm actually more in love with it now than I was almost 20 years ago when I bought it. It's not the chug monster that my Nazgul-equipped BC Rich super Strat is, but it sounds amazing with a healthy does of overdrive into a Fender Twin.

Recently did a very similar thing to my first guitar which was an Affinity. Nothing beats that kind of connection. Just so you know, the purpose of the middle switches was because the middle coil was typically reverse wound and Singleton coils have always been noisy. So running the middle positions are similar to using noise canceling and that’s why they seem thin and scooped, because they kind of are. That’s why I love the double stacks myself.

I love spending waaay too much on something I'll never sell!
I did my own Squier, guessing it is about 20 years old. Did a bunch of fret work. Bought a pick guard with all the electronics on it. Bone nut, and Grover locking tuners. What a machine! Oh and its one of the Bullet Hard tails.
I'm more of a Tele guy, so the hard tail feels right to me. It was an intentional purchase.

This makes me miss my Squier I had when I was 16. Lost it in a combo house fire and flood. First it got all melty from the house fire but was still playable, just needed a new pick guard. Then as it sat in the basement for repairs, it got flooded and was submerged in water. RIP that poor thing.

Definitely passed the tone test -- and then some, Hunter. Great job. My first guitar was a Gibson SG, Cherry, I bought from the Music Mart in State College, PA, in 1973 (Boomer Alert!). Never having picked up a guitar before, I immediately purchased it after seeing both the WHO, and Alice Cooper in NYC? I foolishly let it go along the way. Great demo and playing here too!

Sounds great! I recently put my 1st git neck on an old Peavey. It's an old Korean Bullet neck (I've since lost the original body) that is stained up the whole neck cuz of a blue cast I had on my wrist when I was 15. It's now a reminder that I kept playin thru that S&%!

I sold my first guitar, it was a three pickup CSL Les Paul custom. With the money I got for it I bought my first real Gibson Les Paul, which I still have, but the second guitar I bought was a late 1980's Ibanez RG550, and that's been modded. It's had a new neck, new pots, new knobs and switch tip, new pickups, custom made truss rod cover, made from part of a 1970's Honda motorbike, and I'm saving up for a new trem for it now.

I still have my first guitar: a Lyon by Washburn Strat copy I got from Toys R Us for my 10th birthday. I learned on that guitar and used it until I got my Telecaster, and then my Explorer. The Lyon is currently unplayable - the wood the tremolo screws into has snapped - so when I work on it, I'll need to address that. I'll also have to cut a brand new pickguard as it's not the same shape as a real Strat pickguard. But I'll be getting it up & running in good time for sure.

@@audiowrench punk and grunge have never been my cup of tea. Neither the music nor style. Though I do have a fair few punk friends. But the stickers thing seems to be something a lot of metalhead guitarists do too. But I just think it’s look bad. A builder once told me that a piece of wood doesn’t know if it is a coffee table or a guitar neck. I just installed a new made in Mexico Strat neck on my ‘87 Squier. Got a smoking deal that made it way cheaper than a refret. Coupled with the Lace Sensors that I installed in ‘88 and the Kahler Flat Mount in ‘89 and it is still my best playing and sounding Strat.

Those scratches were likely from wearing a watch or bracelet while playing (right where your wrist rests/makes contact with the body). I always try to check myself for anything which might scratch before I play. Buttons, keys, pocket knife clip, etc… That being said, I love the look of a well-worn instrument! 😊

I let my buddy “learn” on the guitar I learned on, which is an old affinity squier strat. I loved learning on that thing, but my friend never actually got interested enough in practicing to commit. Finally just ended up asking for it back and offered to let him use a different one of mine - which is just a bad cat kit build that’s okay, but I don’t love playing. Watching vids now for ideas of how to upgrade my first guitar, this one made me excited.

I have an identical looking Korean Squier Strat maple HSS. It was given to me for free. From the mid 90s. I slapped on a loaded Mexi pick guard I had laying around and it actually sounds decent. Like yours the neck is great. Just shows you can get away cheap, especially if gifted. Mine does not have the full thickness body though. Probably made of plywood. Still it rocks.
