Today we are reviewing ANOTHER watch from Baltany, a brand that does a lot of old military homages. This one is a take on the Rolex Explorer in 36mm, and I must say they did an amazing job. They combined the modern age applied markers and polished hands with vintage looking matte dial with gilt text and minute hashes. This and the domed sapphire crystal combined give a watch that is actually more legible than the real Rolex Explorer. Since i own one, we'll be making a comparison as well. Baltany also does this in 39, but this 36mm version is really perfect in size, escpecially since it is a TRUE 36mm unlike Rolex that wears more like a 34-35mm watch making it look dainty compared to this one.
The finish quality is really good, especially considering the price of $220, and the watch is powered by a real no-date movement, Seiko NH38, which beats at 21.600bph and comes with both hacking and hand winding.

That is a nice watch. I have no problem that it is a copy of the Rolex. Rolex is making plenty of money conspiring with ADs, to take as much coin out of customers pockets. Life ain’t fair. I learned on the battlefield (Afghanistan and Iraq) circa 2002, 2003, and 2004, that you don’t fight fair. I may buy this watch 😊
Indeed, you can't realistically get a Rolex without being mistreated. And this Baltany does something better in my opinion: lumed arabics.
Treat yourself! I was there also (2006 Iraq, 2009 Afghanistan) and I say get what you like and fuck who ever else, in this case rolex. It's such a basic watch, literally every company has a version anyways.
Touché guys. This is such a simple dial design n anyone could have used the design. What's more, Baltany n the other Microbrands has given us what Rolex has made unattainable...
Just like pilot dial watches. 10k+ for a simple Pilot dial?? Seriously?
Let's face it, Rolex is good but not 20k good. We have the right to make our watch choices, original or otherwise. N if anyone has sound financial advice, in spite of varying pockets sizes, a few thousand bucks for a watch isn't cheap.
N if microbrands or the recent collapse of Rolex Prices showed anything... It's that Great watches Needn't Come with even Greater price tags.
Rolex is sweet, just there is no Rolex on sale. AD looks like a museums. I want to buy, but merely can not. And - this is just a watch, what is so special about them? So, I will go for a Baltany. Just not sure about movement. Swill is a way expensive, is it worth a money in comparison to NH?
@@alexanderbelov1721I wouldn’t pay more for the Swiss movement because the Swiss industry hate you, its customers.
Why does the Baltany look so much better than the Rolex?
Have you ever actually seen a Rolex ? I don't think so
@@peterlandbo2726Is there magic in a Rolex that isn’t captured in video? Baltany looks _real_ nice.
@@peterlandbo2726 I did. Visited AD several times, tried the watches on, merely for fan. Really tried to convince myself about some magic....failed. The only model I like is Explorer, unable to buy anyway. ADs around the world are out of stock. Some silly game, unable to grasp.
May be because of an availability. One can have Baltany, cannot have a Rolex. Shelves are empty, no matter how reach are you. Some silly AD’s tricks.
Looks nice. I have Cronos 39mm Explorer homage and am very satisfied with it.
Love the boxed dome crystal on the Baltany.
Maxi case and dial on the Baltany! Brilliant.
They did one with a lovely purple dial, i guess the 39mm, held back on buying it because the movement wasn't great apparently. Hope they do this one in a 39mm .
Right now, comparing it with Addiesdive 36mm explorer homage. Which is more detailed and better crafted overall?
I'm more interested in the quartz version of Addiesdive. But if you recommend baltany I'll go for it.
Please guide me with points. Appreciate!
I own a 36mm Alpha Explorer homage. Except for the branding on the dial, it's a dead ringer for the original. After 2 years, still loving it.
Agreed, my Alpha hits the spot, still enjoying it after 2 years, no desire to try another brand
Nice watch ! I have the original quite a number of years now. It's a good homage and there are quite a few differences to make it not a photocopy. They did a nice job and it's a great option for people who don't want to spend too much. Admittedly I got mine as a gift celebrating our 20th anniversary so I didn't buy it !
Hi there. Great video ! Am thinking of the 39mm. Does that come with brushed centre links too!?
I think yes, but I am not absolutely sure, so make sure to check
Good review, I must say, sat beside the original, the Baltany looks more appealing to my eye!
Nice little watch. I would prefer BGW9 over the vintage lume.
Three or four days ago Baltany released a homage of a vintage Explorer, also in 36mm. Definitely getting it.
And for people complaining it's a "copy": so, what if it is? Rolex isn't a brand that deserves respect. No one is forced to live in its submission. I'd rather take a nice homage of a successful - and in some aspects generic design - than burn a lot of money without good reason to be mistreated as a customer.
This homage talk is only an issue amongst WIS. Nobody in menswear is autistically screeching about SuitSupply “stealing” the design of the Oxford shoe or two button suit.
At some point a design enters the public domain and separates from ugly, gauche, garish branding and corporate logos.
So many watches reviewed are omage watches although popular i like to see some orginal design watches there are many cool original design watches like Aragon which makes high quality watches with inovative designs and great materials
Get rid of the fauxtina/vintage look and put some BGW9 on there and I'd buy it. I probably wouldn't even mind the absence of a 4Hz movement, considering the price.
I'm currently eyeing the Octopus Kraken version of this design, but I'm not sure I'd want that sphincter-looking logo of theirs on my dial.. :D
I love the Erebus Ascent. Bit pricier.
If the Ascent was a 36mm, I'd be all over it
Date is always a plus
If i ever get over the Mercedes hour hand (hate it!), maybe i get this.... Looks really well made.
Replace it. Many choices for Seiko NH 34, 35, 36 and 38 movements are available (such as in the bay, the electronic bay). A watchmaker can switch the hand(s) in 10-20 minutes.
@@joeskeptical4762it's an easy mod; anyone with even a moderately steady hand can teach themselves to replace watch hands in about 10 minutes with a cheap set of tools
@@joeskeptical4762 Been there, done that, will do again. Thanks anyways.
Nice, I have to say. However, my Tisell 9015 EXPLORER 36 MM is already so nice that I need no more Explorer style watch.
Agreed. I have the 39mm Tisell n the 'Glyde-lock' is just so cool. Even more so the watch. 😁
Hello, may i ask if your rolex is in a 2 piece Nato or a Single Nato strap? Thanks
Two piece NATO, I never liked one piece ones
Love mine!
Steinhart does the homages the best, without doubt. Really good movements aswell. Will probably last as long as any Rolex.
I have the Steinhart gmt Pepsi and love it 😀
Problem is - the domed crystal. Look at side by side at about 2:00min mark.
The "doming" of the crystal on field and pilot style watches takes away from the most important aspect of these genre watches - the legibility. Add to that the vulnerability of the domed crystal - and I have to wonder why so many brands are doing this on a tool watch...
Because in normal everyday use a domed sapphire suffers no damage at all, and furthermore the idea that a domed sapphire with excellent AR coating like this is somehow less legible than Rolex's flat crystal with NO ar coating is just nonsense.
Good video
I would buy one in a heartbeat if only I could have it with a quartz movement rather than an antiquated and inaccurate auto. Why makers do not offer all their models with the choice of quartz and auto has always baffled me.
the original Explorer has a 19mm band, Baltany 20mm
Tissell was one of the earlier microbrand that did a homage to the 36 modern explorer. For about the same price as this (NH34), it comes with hi-beat movement Miyota 9015; no faux patina, with blue BGW9 lume. I think that is a much better value than the Batany. If you prefer the 1016 reference, then Smiths is the one to get. That also comes with Miyota 9015 with no faux patina.
That sounds perfect 👌🏽
Compared with other Ali watches, Baltany is obviously different. Baltany homage watches always have some different changes.
Octopus got it beat.
nkuwan is best watch factory!!!
You had me sold until you mentioned the Seiko movement :(
What's wrong with them? I'd like the automatics I have to run a lot longer, but the quartz seems lovely.
@@Cloxxki Seiko movements are some of the most reliable available, easy to regulate and cost-effective to replace. Who knows what psychological issues cause people to turn their noses up at them
@@kennethg9277 nh35 not easy to regulate because tiny movement cause large changes
same here, I would definitely buy if I could have it with a quartz movement.
@@Cloxxki $20 throw away movement, not for me
Try to get them to honor a warranty claim.
Since you can replace the entire movement yourself for under $50 why would you bother, or care?
Other parts on a watch break. Some break faster than they should. These are costs that the buyer must bear if the seller will not honor their warranty.
Tisell is much better. Better movement, flat crystal, better lume and on the fly adjust.
Homage is like Kia Opirus which tried to mimic Mercedes-Benz
I’ve no issue with homage watches, most brands do this. However, blatant copies lack the passion and interesting design choices of the latter. They just leave me cold once I have them on the wrist. If it wasn’t for that, these Ali express brands offer a lot for money but sadly for me it is a deal breaker, specs aren’t everything.
Watch reviewers talking about manufacturer's attention to detail.
Also, watch reviewers failing to mention the model or reference number of the watch they are reviewing
36mm is a women’s watch guys 😊
This is not "hommage", this is blatant copy. Not a bad looking piece but a copy. And Rolex is so generic...I wouldn't be surprised they started by being a copy. I know they started with other companies movements.
The line between homage and copy got blurred a long time ago
Clomage seems like an appropriate term
This is a homage. Several details aren't the same; female endlinks, lumed arabics, thicker bezel. Besides, Rolex doesn't deserve respect.
I like the fact that it is a direct copy as long as it doesn't have Rolex written on the dial. Because I like the Rolex look but don't have the money to pay for one. I guess these watches are made for people like me.
I don't know about the watch industry rule about this, but in fashion, the rule is at least 7 point of difference and they can get away with ripping off other brand model
That’s a really dreadful copy. Why would you want to own that when you can own the Smiths Everest?
Kinda tired of all these "homages" which are literally copies with seiko movements and some one word company name written on the dial without logo or anything... Add the fake patina indicies to the mix and you got like 70 percent of "microbrands" covered
You keep making these laughable and outrageous comparisons to Rolex. I know these videos are nothing but commercials, but I would respect you for trying to sell these watches for what they are. Dirt cheap chinese watches that look reasonable at their price tag.
I own the original Rolex Explorer and this one is more legible and has more wrist presence. Of course Rolex is a better watch overall, from the movement to the sheer brand value, but looks wise and legibility wise, I actually prefer this one, FOR REAL
‘Homage’ polite for copy 😂 It is a beautiful watch & without the Swiss snobbery and elite price tag… love it 🫶👊💥
