I never understood the “but he makes the right play” argument. What that really means is he makes a pass to a shooter at the perimeter 90% of time. Any average NBA point guard could make that play. "The right decision" depends on the team you're on. If you're the guy that shoots 45-50 fg% and 80-85 ft% all game, you are probably the right guy to be taking the shots when it matters. If you're the guy that can shoot 30-35 footers and make them 40% of the time and you're on fire, it's probably the right decision to take the shot. If you're the guy that can only make dunks/layups with a consistent 70 ft% and the paint is clogged up but you are a pretty good passer, it's probably the right decision to pass it. The way these dudes make it all about Lebron is absolutely insane. Each team is going to the best options they have to win the game, that is the right decision.

You would think Gilbert never played ball to say Jordan could only score. Him and Kobe are literally two of the best scorers and perimeter defenders ever who were also fantastic play makers. It's not like they score 30 and get just one assist per game. The right play? Get out of here. I want my best player to be able to take over and create a shot when needed. I never understood the “but he makes the right play” argument. What that really means is he makes a pass to a shooter at the perimeter 90% of time. Any average NBA point guard could make that play. But having the ability to consistently make a shot down the stretch no matter what the defense gives you makes you 10x more valuable for a championship team.

"The right decision" depends on the team you're on. If you're the guy that shoots 45-50 fg% and 80-85 ft% all game, you are probably the right guy to be taking the shots when it matters. If you're the guy that can shoot 30-35 footers and make them 40% of the time and you're on fire, it's probably the right decision to take the shot. If you're the guy that can only make dunks/layups with a consistent 70 ft% and the paint is clogged up but you are a pretty good passer, it's probably the right decision to pass it. The way these dudes make it all about Lebron is absolutely insane. Each team is going to the best options they have to win the game, that is the right decision.

You mean because of the level of competition in the 90's, the right play was always for Jordan to take it to G league-level talent with no athleticism or versatility. I have a friend that uses Gilbert arenas takes to debate me and I can't explain to him that the only reason he could ride with those takes is because he's never played basketball irl. Dude literally doesn't know how to dribble but tells me modern NBA players are better and more skilled and that it's not the rule changes allowing much more offense with travels and carries not being called. I just don't understand how I can take someone's opinion seriously when they don't know how to shoot/dribble/pass/defend irl and think I am crazy for saying the game isn't as good as it was in the 80's-90's. They get their takes from football players like Shannon Sharpe and keyshawn 😂 or hoopers with agendas 😂 like gil

Gilbert Arenas is nohing even remotely close to an NBA Legend. He's a guy who was a pretty good player for about 2 or 3 years and then got himself kicked out of the league. He never won a thing.
Funniest part is that he criticises jordan for being nothing but a scorer, when Arenas was literally exactly that - the guy played zero defence and did nothing else at a high level. He was an ISO heavy chucker. with zero basketball IQ.
