I mean, 8 is a pretty high score. I think video game "journalists" and "critics" made a lot of people's idea of a score system pretty weird. Everything good under 9 is underrated and too low. If any good movie needs to be 8 9 or 10, then what do literal timeless calssics need to be rated? 11?

Generally we want stuff to be good, so generally it feels a bit bad to say something's bad, so generally we tend to overrate rather than underrate, just human nature. Nobody likes making people feel bad and anything - even something really awful - probably had a lot of effort put into it. So it's politeness, really. Politeness gone mad (lol). That's how people end up making 7s and 8s "average scores" and anything below them basically meaningless-in-distinction. Critics who are a bit better (and maybe a bit prouder) at their craft simply know this pitfall and avoid it by compensating against it until it becomes habit to do so. 5 out of 10 should be the middle because numerically it is the middle - bloody obvious when you think about it. :) I think this is also the reason for the rise in popularity of an "out of 5 stars" measure, too. Less in-between scores means it's more obvious when you've gone a bit skewed with it, little more resistant to slipping you could say. But still enough possible scores for an audience to find meaningful. Also has the interesting quality of having no middle score, so whether it's 2 or 3, whatever you're rating you have to tip it one way or the other - could be a potentially effective decision forcer like that. Of course if you include half-stars then you've essentially just gone back to the "out of 10" rating.

don’t know if either of you have seen it by now but i’m watching it now and it’s hilarious. every character has really distinct personalities and the acting is great. the line delivery is so naturalistic making the humor feel effortless. the score lends to the humor too - it’s almost sarcastically chilling if that makes sense? it sounds like music from an indie horror/ thriller and highlights the nightmare situation the main character faces in a really clever way.
Vanessa Kirby absolutely blew me away. The court room scenes are unparalleled in terms of performance. As an actor, I can honestly say it was some of the best acting I've seen in recent memory.
It'll have 5 addendums for the 4 new remakes that will be made by then and one making fun of kids going this ruined my childhood the 2019 one was so good this one sucks

I do so love when Adum discusses films he enjoys, a lot more than the ones he doesn't. The genuine passion for film comes off very apparant, and in general I feel like you need a lot more real knowledge to discuss the strong positive aspects of films than the negative ones. Like anyone can point out plain plotholes and stuff in movies that just don't make sense, but not many can accurately discuss why the camera work, lighting, and the directing are as effective as they are.

It gradually becomes longer, more in-depth, and transcends time itself to the point where it can never truly be finished because it becomes more, more, and more until years and years pass. Like a real-life Mendelbrot set. It's why I love you, Adum.
