@@emilgebl8644I believe he uploads the full commentary tracks, you gotta find your own way of watching Hoodwinked though
I genuinely watched this movie day in and day out. It's an all-time cult classic.

when you're a kid, you don't notice how weird the animation looks. my imagination filled in the gaps
And 480p helped a lot.
Maybe I was just a really snooty kid but the look of the animation was why I never watched this growing up. I didn't like scary godmother either for the same reason
Well it wasn't in HD for a start
Very true
I knew the animation looked weird, and that’s why I loved it.
My girlfriend is OBSESSED with this movie. Everytime I talk about potentially watching a movie, Hoodwinked is mentioned. Every time she sees a goat 'BE PREPARED'
Cool girlfriend she has good taste
"🎵This lesson must be shared🎵" every time I packed for scout camp as a kid. And now.
I also am dating a girl who has autism
You’re a lucky man.
I’m sorry.
“It’s Knives Out but with Shrek characters.”

It’s like Halo 2 meets Halo 3
Y'all wishlist Animal Well? You should wishlist Animal Well.
@@FatalismicI… I mean I bought it, but the fuck does that have to do with anything?
Damm that reminds me of that game Animal Well. I hear it's available for purchase right now on Steam, Playstation 4, and the Nintendo Switch.
Dunkey, the man with terrible opinions, needs more money I guess lmao
You're telling me you watched Boss Baby before watching Hoodwinked!? And you call yourself a cinema connoisseur?
Right? What a hack fraud
"hoodwinked has a lot of Boss baby vibes"
And they call themselves furries 😤🤦♂️
Yeah everyone knows hoodwinked should be saved for last
He did watch Boss Baby, it was on his channel members videos
as a childhood-winked enjoyer, it may be an ugly baby. but it’s OUR ugly baby
I love how nearly every scene, every action plays into another, and yet YMS thinks that “everything just happens randomly.”
He was too distracted by the bad animation to pay any attention to the plot, I mean you hear the other guy in the call explain to him that they're trying to solve the mystery of who took the goodies an hour into the movie. His criticisms elsewhere in the video are valid but he clearly missed how clever the writing is.
@@chuckbatman5 that tends to happen when you talk throughout a movie lol.
I think he said in his Boss Baby watchalong that if there's something that completely takes him out of the movie, it basically is impossible to pay attention to it afterwards. So the animation being so bad probably just totally got him disconnected from the movie.
@@SylentVoidkeeperthat sucks
@@SylentVoidkeeper Not the best trait for a movie reviewer.
This movie is definitely a childhood guilty pleasure. It looks horrendous and some of it is just plain bad, but I still like it.
Can't say the same for the sequel.
there was a sequel?
The writing was so good though. As a kid I was like ok here's an actually good movie made for me that doesn't treat me like a complete idiot. Will always have a soft spot for it despite the borderline scary animation lol
I mean, the animation IS trash but Adam compares it a lot with Disney/Pixar movies, which are multi-billion dollar companies that have way more more experience with 3d animation. If you compare it to similar budget movies at the time, the cg almost looks decent in comparison. That plus the lower resolution and the fact most of us were kids when we watched means apart from a few scenes (like those fucking kids that still haunt my nightmares), it would've looked fine.
@@jorgewilliam7103 I also found it funny that he brought up Pinocchio: A True Story as another comparison. Though I can’t seem to find anything about the studio or the budget they were working with, it’s fair to note that the film is came out in 2022 versus the first Hoodwinked movie that came out 2005. Technology may not have made world breaking advancements in animation but there definitely is *some* improvement between seventeen years or so. I agree with him that some of the models are a sight for sore eyes, but it’s not the worst Ive seen when compared to other films made with a similar budget and time period
I haven't seen the sequel but it looks like absolute hot garbage. The only reason this movie worked is because the people making it actually cared
i rewatched this movie like 20 times as a kid and i couldn't tell you anything that happened besides it's murder mystery into the woods
Deena metay
Relatable.
The nonlinear plot confused me as a kid and now I don't remember anything with context so it just feels like a fever dream to me now
A common criticism of the film is Boingo's twist being predictable, but when I first watched the film as a kid, I assumed Nicky Flippers, the frog, was gonna turn out to be the villain.
He gave me similar vibes as Stinky Pete or Mr. Waternoose, in that he just seemed to be TOO nice, and I thought he was gonna have a similar villain reveal as those two characters. Even after Boingo was revealed to be the bandit, I expected Flippers to backstab the good guys and reveal he was in cahoots with Boingo. I was shocked at the end when his niceness turned out to be genuine.
I think in my first watch I expected Granny to be evil with how much the trailers played her up as being hardcore
While it definitely is predictable, as a kid I wasn’t used to these kinds tropes so the twist blew my mind back then.
When I first watched this as a little kid, I had no idea it was Boingo but look back, yeah it’s super obvious lol
*This film demands a remaster.*
The plot, characters, everything but the animation is top notch. If only the animation didn’t get in the way…
The only remaster I'd accept is if it was done by worthikids. He once doodled the characters and in his style they look PERFECT. Plus, I read that the designs for this movie were going for a Rankin-Bass Christmas Special look, and since worthikids is REALLY good at recreating the Rankin-Bass stopmotion animations with Blender, I want a remastered version of the movie to look like that. Personally a little bit of cursed/choppy animation is part of the comedy IMO
@@DeepEye1994i haven’t seen worthi’s hoodwinked redesigns! i gotta find those now holy shit-
@@candyzombiee Sorry for the belated response but I realized that for some reason my reply where I tell you where he posted that Hoodwinked fanart keeps getting deleted LOL Every time I mention his name of the social it gets automatically deleted, I have NO idea why.
But it's the site that used to have a blue bird logo
@@DeepEye1994I think TH-cam kept deleting it because they hate links in comments that aren’t from the same site.
@@DeepEye1994 I wonder how much money you'd have to throw at him to make it a reality
Adam: "Were you aware that the visual effects in this movie don't look that great?" x 3,000,000
Oh, and in case you were wondering:
Toy Story 1 Budget: $30 Million
Hoodwinked Budget: *$8 Million*
... oh, and *_ten years later,_* so with inflation it costs like 20% to make. So the fact that it still looks about ~70% as good is pretty impressive. 🤷♂️
“Look at the texture of…”
this was actually in development before Shrek came out(in fact i believe they were in development around the same time) so technically it's not a rip off. Also they pepole who made this knew the film looked like shit, witch is why they tried to make up for it by focucing on the jokes not the animation. Also all the shit like the forced pop music and celebrity voice actors were 100% things Harvey added, not the filmmakers
Weren't all of the lead actors except Warburton as The Wolf replaced with celebrity voiceover AFTER they finished the movie? That's what I remember reading like they were dubbing over finished animation
@@chuckbatman5 yes thats correct. originally it was the creators family and friends that voiced the roles. when harvey came on he thought a celebrity cast would be more marketable.
Strangely, the pop songs weren’t licensed.
Patrick Warburton is a legend deserving of utmost respect.
After all, he did play the last sane man and the ultimate example of humanity, Ken, in _Bee Movie,_ a role that doesn't get enough recognition.
The animation in this movie has the same vibes of veggie tales creepypastas.
why are there veggietales creepypastas
@@CaptLuser good question
Shnitzel on a stick FUCKED me UP when I was a kid. Something about how unappetizing it is, and the way the kids end up getting like, attacked by the tasty treat towards the end... but they LOVE it. This happens every time and they still come from miles around running to get their Shnitz stick. Phenomenal.
I swear to god around the age of 9 I would get so pissed off at every kids movie because I could guess the plot based of the friendship failure aspect being what the movie is built around. Always assumed it was like the unspoken rule of Family animated comedies.
You better not shit on this movie lol, this was my childhood
Do you not know who he is?
@@DDarkestKnightyeah , he literally hates fun
I mean, this movie definitely isn't good, but it doesn't have to be lol
Sorry bro every yms fan has their turn eventually.
To quote a certain video:
"Childhood ruined! Childhood ruined!
Sorry to sacrifice your sacred cow!
Childhood ruined! Childhood Ruined!
If it wasn't ruined before, It's ruined now!"
Robots came out around the same time and had a budget of 75 mil. Hoodwinked had a budget of 8 mil. If anything is worth a remake it is this movie, though tbh I like how janky it is. I think it's charming.
the main fault of this movie is the animation. I think it calls for a remaster since it’s lowkey a cult classic
Granny's neck tat and skiing was a triple x with Vin Diesel reference.
I completely forgot about it until I watched Doug Walker’s video a short while ago. I didn’t get the reference as a kid but now that I know what Triple X is, the reference amuses me.
Funny thing, when I watched Rashomon with my dad he said "This movie reminds me of Hoodwinked"
2:30
They are just carrying on the proud animation tradition with a great lineage, all the way back to Hannah-Barbara!
Portuguese dub really sold this shit out in Brazil, lol 🇧🇷
Same thing in Mexico 😅 with the Spanish dub
I never got that circle wipe joke until now 😂😂😂
as low as the budget is, and whacky the visuals are, its legit a decent movie with a fun plot.
Cat bf giggling every time smth painful happens
When the writing FAR outpaces the animation
This movie looked dated as soon as it came out and yet it still feels like a passionate team tried to make it. There's so much effort, personality and little intricacies. I love it, and people don't give it enough credit
I have impeccable taste in cinema, in that i hate 90% of them, as any sane, rational, intelligent person should. Hoodwinked is pure kino
Hoodwinked is quite the nostalgic one for me too.
I remember seeing it as a kid when it comes out, and its flaws really didn't stand out. It hit the notes of keeping children entertained, which is nice, and feels like an acid trip as an adult. Not a cool life-changing trip, or a bad trip, but just a mildly uncomfortable one that you don't regret.
i love how the cop is a pig though
Watched this when I was in the hospital as a kid idk rather would’ve had amazing world of gumball but it wasn’t that bad
Something about the lighting makes this feel like a horror movie. It’s like it has no global illumination.
Regarding "imagine seeing this an a theater with unfinished animation", I saw a movie with my kids just a year or two ago called "Mummies" (I think), which was obviously something retranslated to English, AND had early 2000's knock-off aesthetics. I was absolutely shocked it was playing in my smaller local theater.
I watched this so many times at my grandma’s house as a kid. I loved this movie so much. The songs were absolute bangers in my childhood opinion.
I found this film on DVD twice after this video released, bought them both times because of it.
'imagine watching this in a theatre' me, i did. Made me realize that animated movies can be terrible pieces of garbage and still get a theatrical release. Its the only movie where i legit wanted a refund.
The Wolf is based loosely on Fletch and his theme slightly apes the theme by Harold Faltemeyer. Briefly watched this movie years ago and that was really the only thing that kept my attention. And that's only because I love Fletch.
The Wolf is easily the best character. Turning "big bad wolf" into "investigative reporter/private eye" was such a great spin and Warburton's comedic timing is perfect for the role.
In my opinion, this movie is best experienced on one of those portable DVD players and small screens in the back of a car on a road trip. That's literally the only way I have ever experienced it.
I definitely watched this movie over and over as a kid. Despite how uncanny the animation is, I feel like the voice acting and presentation really carries it. There’s something so charmingly bizarre about this movie
It's so good!!! Love this movie so happy to see you give it a shot
Lol seeing Adam go mental at the atrocities of this film is what really makes my day better.
I'm kinda curious to see this format for Over The Edge.
The world needs to see Adum develop his total hatred towards that turtle!
You can even see the rabbits face change when red first fell it's like the only clear clue
4:09 Imagine working on a real movie that went to theaters and 15 years later you're giving an interview to a channel with like a dozen subscribers
random side note. But whoever edited this video did a SLICK easter egg at 00:2 seconds in. When the 2005 year shows up you hear the screen select sound effect pop up. from Resident Evil 4 OG. That is a hella cute easter egg by the editor.
I don't remember it looking this bad!
Still a hood classic, I still love it. Red is Blue is my favorite Phil Collins song. Hoodwinked 2 sucked, it was like an action film.
EDIT - Damn, they made the same joke.
Also I have to say the music in this movie has stuck in my head very easily. I’d say that’s a plus
Love it. You should review more shitty horror films. I spent all weekend binging your Amusement / Frozen / M. Night videos
TDS
Hoodwink's music is iconic, actually. Ha, I love this movie.
There is such a horror element to the art style for me. Not just the unfinished parts, but the shading is so dark.
13:16 My mental state since 2020
The director himself said that the movie has parts which are "not good." Damn that's not a good sign.
Something that’s interesting is that this is the animators first time animating a movie and it shows. The budget was also so low that they couldn’t reanimate scenes so they had to stick with their first draft. That makes so much sense. Even if the animation is bad, you can still tell that the animator’s were still trying with the few resources they got and the action scenes during the skiing competition are definitely the highlight of the film and is probably where the animator’s used the majority of their skills on.
Hoodwinked looks absolutely atrocious, like even worse than the Jimmy Neutron TV show, but the movie still succeeds through the sheer quality of its script. I think it's funny even as an adult.
I figured the animation was intentionally choppy, even with the low budget, or else it wouldn't have been as successful. Also, realizing years later that Ben Folds did the sad song was amusing. Also also, the credits song must indeed be generic because I gave Buddy Holly a listen earlier today out of sheer whim.
"It's ugly" thank you, we heard you the first hundred times. Graphics don't make a video game and visuals don't make a movie.
10:29 the same array of animals pasted in smaller size/rotated, not placed individual
You never realize how bad the animation is when your main way of watching films is on a portable DVD player with a screen that’s only I’d say 8 x 8 inches at most
I really hope there's a review or watch of Hoodwinked Too: Hood Vs Evil because there is nothing I would love more than to just hear the groans and complaints about Hansel And Gretel.
i have this dvd. i watched it multiple times as a kid. i don't even remember liking it.
The blindfold thing reminded me of the commentary for HL2:ep1, which at one point includes an explanation of how a character let go of an item in a scripted animation, using a method that probably would've worked for this movie. That game was around the same time too.
The sequel is insane
Hoodwinked is great and I cannot be convinced otherwise.
I got to meet Jim Belushi through work and I asked him about his role as the Schnitzel Man. His response started with a disheartened chuckle and then he went on a rant about Harvey Weinstein. Cool guy though, he even signed my coworker’s laserdisc copy of Red Heat.
I think Hoodwinked is a great example of showing you don't need good art to tell a good story, also love how Adum cinemasins the shit out of this
You know what makes this movie 100x funnier? The Latin American dub, omg. IT'S A GEM.
4:18 😮
It broke even many times over!
I don’t care if it looks bad visually, I actually think it adds character to the film
He's being too judgemental towards a wacky goody animation
7:15 I literally hate that I know exactly which Alvin and the Chipmunks fanart that is
I think I saw this movie when it came out. I enjoyed this movie. Seeing other people react to it now is pretty interesting because its like "Oh. This movie doesn't look good and is kind of weird."
if there is anything Id want to see get the "reanimated" treatment is this movie.
2:20 - you should say disgusting at least once every video
I'm going to tell my children that Skylight Freerange is Rappsittie Street Kids
this movies animation to me is what id imagine 3d family guy to look like. this was my childhood movie growing up. i remember drinking copious amounts of hot chocolate while just watching this movie over and over again.
This movie is a nightmare but every once in a while I'm like "Oh I actually don't hate that"
Like "circle wipe across town" kinda got me
12:11
I know it's an easy grab for the trope, but I'd argue Zootopia is one of the least egregious examples of it in a movie. Their separation didn't just come from some petty crap like in Boss Baby or The Secret Life of Pets, Judy totally shit the bed when talking about the disease and generalized the hell out of the predator class right into his insecurities. That's a completely valid reason to distrust your friend.
It might not be a good movie, but its certainly entertaining
I'd argue that it actually is a good movie, animation aside
I watched this MULTIPLE times as a child
didn't notice how measurably improved the quality of this movie is by Patrick Warburton being there is
How funny would it be if they made a Hoodwinked 3 and it was like a genre defining animated film like Spider-Verse?
I love Hoodwinked so much. We watched it over and over with my kids
2:14 saw it in a theater and it was upsetting
Youre telling me it ISNT 4K? The Blasphemy.
More blue than Three Colors: Blue
Adum updated the Store, -no more gen primary-colour YMS shirts- No more coloured ones. Yay
This is overall less disturbing than Boss Baby
This movie is such a guilty pleasure for me. It's terrible, and ugly, and has an amazing cast of actors. I love it.
This movie’s amazing and I won’t hear otherwise. Never watch the sequel. It’s best not to acknowledge it exists.
I rented this with an ex as a teen, and we watched it. I remember not thinking much about the animation at all, but I remember it being somewhat funny, mostly strange, and all that's stuck after it is some of the weird tastes and the confusion of what exactly the investigation was even about. Good times.
This is crazy because i just watched this movie and have been reminding my friends of how great it was. Bette than shrek imo
One of my favorite early movies! Trust me, it looks so much better in 480p...
That Russian show with the baby and the bear looks better than this while still in the same wheelhouse
something unlocked from my memory
Condolences
I remember watching this movie in the movie theater with my cousin lmao
