vintage 2021 van show put on by California street van club in southern california. This show is called BYOB. Bring Your Own Boogie. Have a look with me at all the great vans.
As a 70's kid from SoCal these were everywhere. Every day kids would think of a different theme for their van when we were old enough to drive. Vans are just bitchin ~
Mate, I still dream of the good Old days (1970s) when these dream machines were King. I live in the Land DownUnder & we ran some supper cool vans just like you blocks. Thanks for the memories.
I love vans because I don't need anything more. I prefer to use a toilet and shower at a truck stop or a luxury camp site, or go to a lake. I don't like carrying my toilet or any plumbing with me. This was a cool video.
I remember these types of vans from my childhood! That last one was a true 'Shaggin' Wagon'! Miss goingto the Van shows in California! The only thing though is now i wouldn't want somethings so 'warm' mainly in the California Summers! :D Thank you for showing these!!!!
thanks for sharing! I went ga-ga for vans back in the day! I actually traded a beautiful '69 firebird for a '72 Econoline (derr!) Had it custom painted, teardrop porthole windows, craiger's , Capitan chairs, bed, etc. Then had to get something more practical for the new baby (derr!!) That old 302 got great mpg's too! Those west the best of times! Now I'm missing my old van and my firebird :(

Your video brought back some fun memories of my days back in California during my vanlife time. And funny today vanlife comes back to me dreaming of retirement with a home on wheels
Many memories of my next door neighbor and her big Orange van and orange shag carpet from ceiling to floor, the bed in back was covered in the shag carpet that opened on each side. We would hear that Woman with the Red fro coming a mile away with speakers blasting to Steeley Dan. Oh the memories!!! Brightmoore, Detroit!!
I remember in the late 70s they used to call those Van Happenings in Socal. Two van clubs in Socal one was Mid-Evil Van's and Unique Van's. I'd go with my parents. They had bands lots of partying but I was only ten but still fun
Great van show thanks l was in a van club in New Jersey back in the 80s l had 77 custom Chevy van how lm 70 years old lived in Florida and l still miss truck in thanks again 👍
@@wetspotswimwear1199 It was not only did they stop making them but gasoline prices had a lot to do with it. It became more practical to own a high mileage Honda civic than a gas guzzling van...and I went into the military and did not want to get a dishonorable discharge, so I quit smoking pot for that decade and several after because in the nineties every job wanted to drug test. But then I retired in 2000 and everyday became a Saturday...I took trips to Jamaica and Thailand were I smoke enough weed to make up for those lost years. I smoked so much from 2000 to 2020 that I can't even get a buzz any longer.
@@MrBayspring that was a bunch of information. Gas prices were pretty stable after the Carter years, til Beijing Biden took over. Maybe you need medical marijuana now, then you could travel without going anywhere

As I stated before since it was not legal in many states ike it is now, I would go elsewhere and did for some 20 yrs, with my last year spent living in Los Angeles where dispensaries for weed are like circle K. I smoked every strain that exists to the point that it does nothing for me now.

So cool I always wanted to be wealthy enough to have a custom shagging wagon, I recall Counts Customs cars in Vegas he did one for himself and it was a perfect example of what I would have done maybe have it 4x4 so I could do some light off roading.

back in '77 my soon to be brother in law had a "74"? chevy van all decked out with the carpet and bed and all he sold it when he married my sister..i remember it had a painting on both sides towards the upper rear part of cactus and desert scenery and it had 2 or 3 air horns mounted over the drivers cab, it was also a column shift 3 speed..i wonder if its still around after 44 years?
being 75 years old i remember this era and had a nice custom job and more vans than i have fingers, when i can afford another one that is what i will acquire just like the old days, new cars blahhhh toooooooooooo much electronic bullshit on them for me to work on, i did much of my own work on the vans and painted them also. dupont had a translucent paint that i would put over a base coat of silver and many though my vans had candy apple paint jobs,
man if your looking for shag carpet remember your looking for carpet for CAR!!! auto upholstery or world of fabric …. ill have to dig for my invoice when i dis my headliner in crushed velvet.. but the place had everything… even shag carpet and i mean WILD CRAZY SHAG CARPET….. and cost to build or restore and customize a van its no different than a vintage car or a new slammed full size truck all cars take 3 things………. 3 1. Time 2.Labor 3.Cash the good old TLC… and its about how much cash you got to make a wild van..0
I grew up in the air when those vans were popular And those vans might have cost $15000 brand new and sometimes I might have a $150000 worth of work done to them by some vain customizing shop in Hampton Virginia we always had to Van house and they're still around today but the mostly sell mobility scooters in the 21st century but back in the seventies and eighties custom Van's were all about them
Had a custom van back in the late 70's called "Country Comforts." Won several awards, including two "Best in Show." Utter chick magnet. Recently tried to buy another van with the idea of customizing it, but not a single dealer could find one to even order - and I'm not willing to put all that time and money into a unknown used van.
@@jamesblackwell703 .. Perhaps. However, it costs thousands (materials, paint job, etc), likely more today, to build a van like this. That van has got to stay running long enough to justify the expense. Probably spend more on trying to fix a used van than customizing it. Like I said, I'm just not willing to do that. You're free to do so.
@@robinstewart6510 I paid 250 for a 63vw drove it everyday for over 30yrs just sold it recently for 10g I missing it but just bought a one owner 91 dodge conversion for 1100 I have 2000 in it and raod ready its about an 8g van but I've been looking for a couple year
SNL did a hilarious skit where Dan Akroyd was a vanner who put ac in his van. I have searched & searched & searched & searched but have not been able to find it. It would help if I knew the name of the skit which I do not. !
I notice that nobody mention anything about, how you really needed to go to Radio Shack to buy a CB and say Breaker, breaker 1 9 and having a can of Billy beer and also listen to K- Tell 8 track tape.

Late 1970s - Boogie was a disco term for party. Boogie Fever, Boogie down, etc. These type vans were used for mobile parties.
