Seems like it was just from the box and did not got all required tech manipulations. That is more service problem, than quality. They forgot to adjust clutch.
This was standard procedure when riding a Moto Guzzi 850 California T3 in the eighties. You wouldn't like to push a 327 kg motorcycle 5 miles. I got quite good at riding through Aalborg and Aarhus without stopping. The clutch failed frequently until we did a complete rebuild and modified it. No need to say that I have a Japanese motorcycle now.
That was always going to happen at some point. I’m glad you shared it. Out of the hundreds of bikes you ride it had to happen at some point. Did make me laugh though listening to you panting walking up hill 😂
You can ride a bike (or drive a car) and change gear without a clutch, you just have to match the gear changes to the engine revs / vehicle speed up and down the gearbox and they should just pop in with a bit of persuasion. With a car you have to hope the starter motor can get you started and going in first. With a bike you can take a run up to get it rolling in neutral, jump on, then drop it into first.
I feel your pain, I once pushed a gpz500s 3 miles after it broke down on a roundabout, never again. My issue was bad petrol and was fine once I drained the petrol and cleaned all the filters and carbs. Now I have breakdown cover.
This is an absolute shame. But agree with the other commentator that it seems a service/build issue not quality. Although having said that, I have heard the bike is not clutch happy at lower speeds.
It will be. Whoever put it together didn’t do it properly. I actually would love to try one again. Unfortunately though Appleyard’s ignore all of my emails now. 🤷♂️ so a re-try seems unlikely
Why was the clutch cable nuts (on the enine )not either side of bracket to keep the adjustment surely can't be right.... ps betcha glad it was a smaller bike ...
First thing i'd have checked would've been that other end. Probably could pull w/ pliers and put it back in. Those crimp-ends can come off too. Reckon it hadnt been adjusted correctly and was too loose.
I feel for you. And I'm not going to say what I would have done. 😄 Next one will be more enjoyable, I'm sure. In fact, they've got a used svartpilen in atm, maybe you could brake that one for them, too. 🤭
You checked the cable at the lever, did you check the cable at the other end? I was wondering why you only used 1st gear when it had a quick shifter and didn't knock it into neutral before you stopped. Did you video any conversation with the dealer?
Unfortunately I didn’t check the cable at the other end. it felt like it had snapped. I’d only been riding it for a few minutes so I just went on auto pilot to get back to the dealership as quickly as possible. I was panicking a bit because I didn’t have much time left before I had to head home to pick my kids up. I didn’t record any conversation with the dealer. when I got back and told the sales guy in there they sent the mechanic out who fixed it quickly. What I was told was the wire had just slipped out. They said it was a real bitch to get on and difficult to get off so they couldn’t understand how it had happened. It was a quick fix but because it took me a while to get back there I didn’t have any time left to jump back on.
You are making it look hard work. You missed the left turn when you pushed it across the road. Anyway you made it in the end. Now looks like you haven't ridden the R18 Rocktane, I'd love to know what you thought, I thought it was shit
Well what can I say what a pain haps it’s a good job it wasn’t sweltering hot but I expect these things happen be interesting if anybody else has had something happen on a review at least it wasn’t a big 1290 adventure Ktm that would taken some pushing hope you get to review this again and it’s nice and sunny take care
@@GillyBikes North Yorkshire boundary is a few miles to the west and the river Wharfe the next valley to the north. Appleyards address is West Yorkshire. Hope you have got your breath back.
I had the previous version of the Svartpilen 401 and it was the worst bike I’ve ever owned. I bought it new and after a few hundred miles it kept cutting out. The dealer couldn’t resolve the problem and eventually they took the bike back. From my experience (and maybe yours), these bikes are utter crap!
I had the old 125 and I now have the new 125, both of them are perfect especially for a learner. I just dont think its a good idea to be in such a high gear all the time in town though, these singles love low gears and the revs being stretched out properly, that's where these bikes shine especially with peak torque at 7.5k
Tbh you did not break it,it broke down during normal use,did have a pdi?,unfortunate result, wouldn't expect any problems on a new motorcycle these days, certainly would put many potential buyers off.😊
This did seem like a very unfortunate freak accident. It was quickly fixed when I got back I just didn’t have time to go back out on it. I wouldn’t let it put me off buying one.
@@GillyBikes no worries, I wouldn't be so forgiving if I had scrimped and scraped to be able to afford a new motorcycle only for to fail like that,at least it wasn't a new rider with little experience on the road, thanks for actually sharing the video despite the issue.
@I_am_Thursday I think there are some quality Chinese bikes out there. I’m a big fan of what Voge and Benelli are bringing over. Really good quality. Unfortunately there are a few bad ones coming over and it’s the bad ones that ruin the rep for the good ones.
I believe it is the dealer issue. Whenever you handover a new bike to test ride or sell, pre delivery insp3ctions are necessary. When it is a test vehicle, it becomes even more important, 'cause test riders often happen to beat the sh** out of such products. These mean 390s are very dependable in harsh environmenta like India...I definitely don't think it is brand issue...finally, guess it was a rainy day for you afterall... 😂😂😂
I reckon that Appleyards motorcycle gaff , had a brass neck supplying a top cheap bikes are us reviewer , with bike that has issues . If that had of been me ,I would have rang them up & told them , to get their arses into gear & send a van out , & remove the crock of sh💩t out of my sight , before I am tempted to sling it ,in the nearest cut . 😎👍
@@GillyBikes Mabe so , but you need to keep them on their toes , otherwise they start slacking & take liberties & take you for granted . Sounds like that Husqvarna mob should stick to knocking out chain saws , axes & garden tools . I have vaguely heard about them regards trial bikes , but never seen any in real life on road ,or any dealer that flogs them in my neck of the woods .
Hilarious mate. Fair play to you for sticking with it. Well done.
Cheers mate. It was enjoyable right up to the end exercise 🥹

I was very happy that it happened to me on a light bike and not a big heavy one. Saying that this did feel heavy up hill.
Wouldn't the shop come and pick you up?
I’m sure they would have, but as it only took me 5 minutes to ride there I thought I would be quicker to just make my own way back.

I just needed a down hill assist 🥹
Not on that you don’t it comes fitted with a quickshifter as standard.

Cheers. It was a nice bit of exercise 😂
I had to push an SV650 home once. Gear lever bolt snapped whilst it was in Neutral. Nearly killed me too.
It’s never good when it happens. But when it does you realise just how heavy these bikes are. 🤯
I would like to hear what you said to the guys in the shop...😂
I was panting when I walked in. I needed 5 minutes to get my breath back then I told them. 😂

The 401 has cruise control?
I don't believe it does, only a software speed limiter that you can adjust
