The movie was a VERY poor attempt to copy the popularity of the Who Framed Rodger Rabbit movie. The Cool World movie had no where near the same budget and did not have access to such well known and popular characters.

Actually he did an interview where he did reveal the true plot which focused on a child that was half toon and half human where later she later gained access to the human world and commit gory murders while the detective tried to figure out who and how they are Killing people. It meant to be a horror dark comedy whiched focused on the child perspective while in a noir sense
That was the point. The lack of cohesion was probably meant to symbolize how chaotic the toon world was in this movie compared to the real world, and it seeping into the real world made it just as chaotic.
It's like Bendy from Bendy and the Ink Machine invaded our world and brought all the insanity and corruption of Joey Drew Studios with him. This part is an excellent example of the fragility of the barriers between reality and imagination and letting subconscious creativity run rampant.
I feel this film is a tragic Missed opportunity. Ralph back she has always been a creative Force, and while his works may have been very provocative, they are nonetheless unique. I really wish I could have seen what he made of this film free of studio influence

Too many cooks in the kitchen situation. Kim wanted it to be a PG movie she could show to kids, everybody had an idea of what they wanted this to be. Ralph didnt want a rated R ripoff of Roger Rabbit. He wanted to do an animated story about murder and revenge. His idea deserved better than to be turned into a footnote in animation history.
Insanity is a great way to sum up these law few scenes of the movie. One of the reasons that Ralph Bakshi was able to get the movie made was because according to Bakshi himself,the studio had no idea what he and the animators were doing and they just didn't get the movie(like a lot of people didn't,I'm sure).I think the studio thought that Cool World was going to be more like Roger Rabbit than....whatever this is. Ha! Ha! But I do agree with you that I like the animation style.
I like how Jack was set up as a bad guy, made him seem crazy and he was in prison for murder, but then you see he's not so bad, just lonely, and with the potential to be a hero

This is my favorite scene from Cool World I’ve ever seen. We sure don’t get a lot dark edgy slapstick cartoons like that anymore like we used in the 80s and 90s, 😔 times sure are a changin’ as the intro singer of the watchmen movie used to sing about.
