'Photograph' is the perfect rock song. It has everything: good riffs, a great chorus and hook, and you can tell these guys are having a blast in this video. They love what they do, and it's hard not to get sucked into that energy. When this song came out, it was on MTV non-stop. 'Pyromania', the album it was released on, became a huge hit in the US,, solidifying Def Leppard as one of the biggest bands, if not the biggest, of the 80's.

If it wasn’t for Def Leppard bands like whitesnake, ratt, poison, etc wouldn’t have been as big as they were. They paved the way for them. High N Dry is also my favorite DL album, by the time they got around to recording Hysteria Phil had more control over Joe and more influence in the band, which Steve hated, and it's why they lost their hard edge on Hysteria and after Steve died they really lost their hard edge. Phil was more into the glam stuff and wanted the band to focus more on being rich and famous and attracting more women to their shows. It worked for them but after Hysteria their next few albums did not sell as well because they lost their core audience once bands like Guns N Roses came out and brought back the hard edge. Those first three albums were awesome, Hysteria had some good songs on it, but once I heard a couple of tracks off the album after Hysteria I lost interest in them myself. Steve was driving force of that harder edge and once he died this gave Phil and Joe no resistance to making DL into a full blown chick band.

Ron Just Ron - not the only band to go thru that in the 80’s. Between Steve having performance anxiety and drug addiction issues, and their drummer losing an arm- they went thru some stuff as a group.
Perhaps they were worried about surviving as a band while waiting for Rick to recover and build a new drum set. They are talented but not everyone can be Led Zeppelin 😎

    I LOVE THIS SONG !!
Rick Allen (Or as he's known by Def Leppard fans,) "The Thunder God" is AWESOME !!!
He lost his left arm on December 31st 1984 in a car accident due to a faulty (or defective) seat belt and he's still an AMAZING drummer.. So this was before his car accident.
You never heard of Def Leppard ?!?! I certainly recommend more Def Leppard songs.

The secret weapon on this song, and album was legendary producer Mutt Lange. He has produced some of the best rock albums of all time. ACDC's Back in Black and Highway To Hell, Def Leppard's Pyromania and Hysteria, among many many others. Even his ex-wife Shania Twain's Come On Over album which is one of the most successful country albums of all time. He has worked with all the best artists.

Def Leppard! While they have a polished and kind of pop soundscape they rock pretty hard. I'd consider myself a fan of their 1987 album Hysteria and prior works more so than material post Hysteria. But, if you want some tracks: High N Dry, Rock of Ages, Pour Some Sugar on Me, Armageddon It, Love Bites, Another Hit and Run, On through the night, Foolin', Rock Brigade, Hello America..... I mean they got some classics and can rock. That is why they are still around killing it.

"Photograph" is a song performed by English hard rock band Def Leppard and produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange. It is the lead single from the band's third studio album, Pyromania (1983). Their lead vocalist Joe Elliott has described the song as generally about "something you can't ever get your hands on".[4] When released as a single it reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Tracks chart, where it stayed for six weeks, and No. 12 on the Pop Singles chart.[5] In 2006 the song was used in promotional adverts for the DVD release of Blades of Glory. In 2009 it was named the 13th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1.[6] It was also listed as the No. 17 greatest song of the past 25 years by VH1.[7]
In 2008, they performed the song with country pop singer Taylor Swift on CMT Crossroads. The performance was nominated for both Wide Open Country Video of the Year and CMT Performance of the Year at the 2009 CMT Music Awards.
In 2013, the song was featured in the Grand Theft Auto V video game, on the Los Santos Rock Radio station.

"The 80's was where it was at, man..." Brother, you ain't wrong ! '76-'87 was the sweet spot baby ! There were brief flashes of brilliance in some rare acts in '90-'92, '93 and '94, but with the exception of some later metal acts that stood the test of time, just nothing to compare with the absolute groovy-ness and awesomeness of the 80's Everything was great, looking back... the Rap, the POP, the Punk the ROCK and the METAL, even the Hair Metal. Just too cool. Sorry kids, I know you are livin' in the moment of the greatest amount of accessible... ... everything, but even when you listen back and appreciate the awesomeness of old school... there was just a vibe that surrounded it all that made it magic.

Jamal! You're the same age as my baby brother! *LOL* He's a 1980 baby, too. I actually went to a Def Leppard concert, once.. I think it was their "Hysteria" tour. The lead gave props to all his bad mates, calling out the drummer as "Thor, the thunder god" I got to be right up next to the stage, twice, the first time someone shoved me up against the gate and I got body passed to the back. The 2nd time, I was hauled over the barrier and sent to the back. My reckless youth. Epic concert/light show.. first concert I'd been to that was in that style.

We had a lot of hard rockin' cheese back in the day (the 80's). This was the last great album for the band, don't get me wrong, Hysteria was great and all, but they stopped really hard rockin' sound with this classic 3rd album release! It's still my all time favorite from the band. After Hysteria in 1988 they really started to suck if you ask me.

Incredibly catchy & still my favorite song by Def Lepard ever since I first heard it in 1983. I think one of the biggest reasons this band was so successful is that even though they were technically Heavy Metal, they’re music was really melodic & always had a great hook to it. That made it more accessible to the general public & also highly popular. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for many other Metal bands out there.
