    I've had the same suspension set up installed (professionally) with the ECU re-flash unit hard wired and no engine lights are on or any other faults. The truck has been riding awesome ( I don't even see any difference in ride quality) and have been happy for almost 5 years now. All Terrain Management systems work perfectly , in high or low gear. Your tires are a bit big though, Land Rover recommends 255/60-18 as maximum tire size, you went with 65 profile, that's why they are rubbing . Not a big deal though! Cheers from Canada :)

    Air ride is the best part of my Rover. I throw 500 pounds of feed in the back hatch, it's still level and rides like a dream. Beyond me why one would go to such expense and trouble to remove it and replace with a primitive suspension.

    • @NathanNostaw
      @NathanNostaw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep. The air is such an aewsome feature and I adjust heights for so many things. I love how well it take heavy loads and adjusts to suit and then fully unloaded it still drives beautifully. We have ours sitting stock height day to day, but can bunp it up to any height when we go off road. Just bought 2 replacement air stuts for the front due to a leak and I'll try keep this system for the life of the car.

    I have an 06 LR3 with about 116k miles on it. I got it with 109k. Been having suspension issues since day 1. Not sure what the problem is but really thinking about the coil overs. I took it off road once and I got an overheated suspension message. I couldn't lift it for a while. Luckily, I didn't need much clearance where I was at and got out with no problem.

    I love my LR3 and hate it. I hate it for the regular suspension problems. I didn't buy it for the air suspension, so I will probably just get the kit. I was considering replacing it but just spent $2000 CDN with upper control arms and bearings and parking brake repairs. 2006 LR3 HSE 265k km.

    I don't think you are supposed to disconnect the sensors..?Normaly If you have original xenons, these sensors are also self adjusting the lights in that case. If you don't have automatic adjustments of the lights , you end up with to high of beam on hills.

    Love the rig, love the simple rugged looks the best! Got a couple questions for you... with it now constantly 2in higher than stock, did you feel any more body roll in a turn than before? Also is the mpg worse now than before or did it not change. The LR3 already has horrible mpg and I don't wanna make it worse. I love the air bag system for the off road ride height and it lowers on highway for efficiency, but you really can't beat the peace of mind with solid springs.

    • @ty_zib
      @ty_zib  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't really notice any increase in body roll with the swap. In my case, having the lift combined with a bigger wheel setup and the roof rack definitely hurt the mpg. The rack alone will knock off roughly 2 to 3 mpg. I think I was averaging 12 mpg if I remember correctly.

    Thanks for all your information about changing from air bags to coilovers.
    I’ve decided to do the conversion too but have a couple of questions. Mine is a 2006 LR3 also and I’m confused what to do next. Do I have to take it to a dealerships so they could scan with their ODII scan tool that is advanced enough to troubleshoot a Land Rover and their suspensions. Then I install the flash tool under the steering wheel with the intent to hard wire it in eventually and that should remove the red light in dash.
    Did you take yours to someone that had a scan tool before you used the flash tool included with the struts? Do you know why AB would tell me this when I bought the coils? Thanks for your help! Gina

    Is it just the red light that remains on or is it also the ding sound that goes off from time to time while driving?

    • @ty_zib
      @ty_zib  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine was just the red light

    • @dandaniels4558
      @dandaniels4558 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine has the ding that does it everytime the fault message flashes on the screen.
      But mine is doing it because I did what a few other guys did and pulled the Fuse under the hood where the battery and Fuse box is.i think it's the 26E yellow fuse 3 spots from the larder square fuses.
      I did as they did and set my suspension to its highest point.
      Then shut it off and pulled that fuse I stated and it's solved all issues,it shut the air system completly off. I don't off road so don't need it.
      I love the ride,steering and handling and feel of it setting at its very highest point.looks really good so as long as I do t have any issues with pulling the fuse I'm driving it the way it is.
      At some point I will most likely get the Atlantic British heavy haul coil spring and flash module kit andbhave it changed.
      The only issue I for see is getting it inspected here in the USA I will probably put the fuse back in for that sole purpose and the yank it out again after it passes.

    Want to know, if you do nothing else but switch over to coils, you're saying you'll get the suspension fault light (red light) but all other programs will work? Do you get any chimes or warning on the dash that is recurring as you drive? Or would all one needs to do is cover that annoying red light? Putting sticker over a light I can do, but annoying chiming or something I can't deal with....thanks in advance!

    • @ty_zib
      @ty_zib  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. Just the light and obviously the raise lower function will not work anymore but all of the traction modes continue to function as normal. No beeps or chimes.

    Thinking about picking up the coil kit myself, for an '05 LR3. Air ride quality is great though... so no big differences in ride over pavement with coils?

    • @ty_zib
      @ty_zib  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If anything it felt better to me. Maybe I'm just used to driving cars with traditional suspension but there seemed to be less body roll with the coils on road. I'd say keep air until it fails then coils are the move. The ability to raise and lower the ride height is super nice.

      You might have a faulty height sensor somewhere. The rods trick the sensors into thinking the vehicle is sitting too low and raises it up to give you the "lift". If there's something off with the sensors then it might not adjust properly. That's my guess

    Should never have done this to your discovery 3. Lost all the off road capability and special programs are compromised. I have a 150000 mile Disco 3 that I have replaced the compressor on once because I upgraded.....cost £250. The air suspension is a major part of the car and why its so good just maintain it NEVER change to coils its idiotic.

    • @TheGalifrey
      @TheGalifrey ปีที่แล้ว

      What happens when you buy a $60,000 SUV on the cheap and haven't got a proper budget to maintain it tbh. Mine has the ACE active roll control, fitting coil springs would ruin that as well. The cost of maintaining the LR system is comparable to maintaining a conventional setup anyway when you take into account the maintenance of the shocks, broken coil springs etc. and the LR system works soooo well when it is maintained properly. 4 Brand new Air Shocks is £600 in the UK, £250 if you only need fronts, compressor is cheap to rebuild and you keep it all working.
