Denzel's a really smart brother.
Denzel's acceptance speech was so clever. He was basically telling young people to aim high " At college, they asked each one of us what we wanted to be..."! Denzel Washington is the greatest living actor and probably one of the greatest of all time. Here's why. I dont care if it was a cheesy 90s flick like Virtuosity or a classic like Glory with that single tear, he NEVER phones it in. He breathes life into a character that was born on paper. Nothing short of magical.
From the time his name was mentioned Denzel grabbed his beautiful wife Pauletta and just held her tight. Denzel has always said that he would not be there if not for his wife and family who gives him the support that he needs. An amazing team. 👏👑🌹
All you people who are saying Denzel Washington shouldn't have won the oscar for Training day because he played a bad guy, a crooked cop, are wrong. Marlon Brando AND De Niro won an oscar for their role as the Godfather, a mafia man.And don't even start with the racist remarks because I'm white and I love all three of them. They are amazing actors.
Daniel Villalobos exactly Daniel.Denzel Washington had won his first Oscar for playing a soldier. maybe some people don't know that because the other movie is not so well known as Training Day.
mgeek1 It is known but I haven't watched it yet. I think most people got to know Denzel better as an actor from his role in Philadelphia with Tom Hanks.
Agreed. By that logic Louise Fletcher should not have won, I mean her character is the most memorable bitch in cinema history, Hopkins should not have won because he played a serial killer and of course Kathy Bates for playing an insane woman in Misery.
An unforgettable night! I still remember it clearly. I was soooooo happy. Btw check out how long he and his wife hugged. Clearly a joint accomplishment. This still warms my heart.
I am so glad Denzel won the Oscar, but my favorite part of this video is seeing how happy Sidney Poitier is when he hears that he won and sees him walk on stage. Then this moment at the 1:14 mark.
Denzel was a mentor to Chadwick, which he has been to so many younger actors. He must have promised himself that if he ever got to a position where he could help, he would.
Point is, Denzel's acting in training day was wonderful. He was just so cruel and wicked in it, and it was outstanding. The academy saw it this way too, so he deserved it.
@@Mookaron - Why should he only win playing good guys? He's an ACTOR. His job is portraying characters, good and evil. I don't understand this mentality that black actors should only play good people. How boring is that?
What I love about this man is the focus he puts on getting the right kind of education, on books, and on collaboration. He is given private donations to students across universities, such an honorable man. Mr. Washington, you have no idea how much you inspire kids across borders, and across countries.
This is probably my most favorite Oscar. From, Denzel giving Sydney. A lot of love and they both raise their Oscars held up like a cheers 🥂 and Julia Roberts giving Denzel Washington a big hug at the end such a great moment.
Something so warming watching this again, seeing Josh Harnett so young in the crowd and all those actors, when Hollywood still had an air of being the place where the best actors in the world go. How time flies. The 90s and 00s were my favourite times.
i don't see white people complain Daniel Day Lewis got an oscar for playing a corrupt oil tycoon. Just be happy for Denzel, the Oscar was long overdue. I am sure if DiCaprio got an Oscar where his role wasn't really the best one that year, people would still be emotional like Julia Roberts was here, because it was about damn time.
+cpfishfan14 but Denzel had already won an Oscar before this so its not the same thing. And the reason people were ok with Lewis is because its one of the top 5 best performances of all time, Denzel in Training Day was not (despite still being an amazing performacne of course)
Well that's the thing, or at the least the funny thing with this movie and it's Oscar nominations... ethan hawke, for all intents and purposes, plays the main character in training day... he is the protagonist and in other words has the leading role, I think he does actually have more screen time in the movie as well. Despite this, their nominations are reversed and denzel is nominated for lead and ethan supporting. Now I'm not saying I don't understand why this happened haha or that there aren't speculations to be made, I just always thought it was a bit funny and wanted to point it out.
@@MaddestMousse Simple answer is Denzel is a much bigger name and had a better shot at being nominated as a lead, so the studio campaigned him as a lead. But it is absolutely a supporting performance. I don't have an issue with it. It was like Marlon Brando in The Godfather or Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs, it wasn't a lead performance but it was so captivating that it felt like one.
My favorite 1 1/2 minutes of anything that I've ever watched. I love Sidney Poitier and he keeps getter better and better. If I could meet anyone in the world--alive or dead-- I would choose to meet Mr. Poitier. He's truly one of a kind and a source of endless inspiration to me.

I dont care if it was a cheesy 90s flick like Virtuosity or a classic like Glory with that single tear, he NEVER phones it in. He breathes life into a character that was born on paper. Nothing short of magical.
My favorite part of this seeing Denzel and julia together! Loved them both in the Pelican Brief! -june 1, 2020
When the most beautiful woman in the world , then, Julia Roberts is crazily happy for Denzel , that shows true love and friendship.
*the mOst beautiful woman in Hollywood is Mo´Nique*
Denzel frigging Washington. Total legend. There is no Denzel Washington film I would not watch.
Well said. -bobby balls fan.
From the time his name was mentioned Denzel grabbed his beautiful wife Pauletta and just held her tight. Denzel has always said that he would not be there if not for his wife and family who gives him the support that he needs. An amazing team. 👏👑🌹
This man deserves another Oscar! Two is not enough for one of our greatest actors.
King Kong ain't got shit on me!
+Dora Jackson - No, I think "Glory" is pretty well-known.
mgeek1 It is known but I haven't watched it yet.
Dora Jackson r
An unforgettable night! I still remember it clearly. I was soooooo happy. Btw check out how long he and his wife hugged. Clearly a joint accomplishment. This still warms my heart.
Aww, love the way he kept hugging his wife and just let her enjoy this moment with him. He deserves more than 1 Oscar Denzel
He has two. He had won previously for Best Supporting Actor for GLORY (1989).
Julia Roberts being so happy her friend won is the type of love I need
I am so glad Denzel won the Oscar, but my favorite part of this video is seeing how happy Sidney Poitier is when he hears that he won and sees him walk on stage. Then this moment at the 1:14 mark.
There is no black panther without Denzel Washington- Chadwick Boseman
oh
Denzel was in the Black Panther party?
@@bdub8522 nope
Denzel was a mentor to Chadwick, which he has been to so many younger actors. He must have promised himself that if he ever got to a position where he could help, he would.
Point is, Denzel's acting in training day was wonderful. He was just so cruel and wicked in it, and it was outstanding. The academy saw it this way too, so he deserved it.
tinyblueflamesx He got overlooked for playing many good guy roles tho!
Crowe was muuuuch better
Ivan B no he was not..
No, he didn't, Crowe's performance in A Beautiful Mind was clearly the best of that year. But the Academy had their reasons for not giving it to him.
@@Mookaron - Why should he only win playing good guys? He's an ACTOR. His job is portraying characters, good and evil. I don't understand this mentality that black actors should only play good people. How boring is that?
Julia was so happy for him because she thought he was snubbed for his role in Malcolm X.
Lol stop lying
And because they were friends from The Pelican Brief.
@@ΧρόνηςΣυρόπουλος It's a fact, dumbass. She literally spoke publicly about it. Have you noticed 7 months later, and no one agrees with you?
@@anthonycoleman9593 wtf do u want talking to me like that
@@ΧρόνηςΣυρόπουλος You know you like it when I get agressive to you.
Denzel was mesmerizing in Training Day and totally deserved to win IMO.
I love Denzel Washington ❤. Love from Nigeria 💕.
Him walking up those steps sent chills down my spine
Julia Roberts said one day after their make the film THE PELICAN BRIEF,she said her platonic love was Denzel Washington,,,,
Yeah sure. The way she says: My Life, Denzel.
nobody gives a s**t about Julia Roberts ... she's insufferable
And I dont blame her. He is my platonic love too 😄
"Platonic," my azz....she'd love to give Denzel a "touch up!"
(If she hasn't ALREADY!)
@@ronjunior who wouldn't
He just made me cry! This is the Genius of D.Washington!
One of the most charismatic man i've ever seen in my whole life. One of the greatest, definitely top 5 best actors ever...
Every time I see this, it makes me smile. Denzel, you are an amazing actor, quite extraordinary!
To me, Denzel Washington is the most good-looking actor in Hollywood... No one can top him...
100% agreed
Daniel Day Lewis is more handsome than Denzel.
@@dannytorrance4024 no
@@dannytorrance4024 you need a eye exam!!!😉
Definitely
Mmm, that voice! I could listen to him talk all day.
What I love about this man is the focus he puts on getting the right kind of education, on books, and on collaboration. He is given private donations to students across universities, such an honorable man. Mr. Washington, you have no idea how much you inspire kids across borders, and across countries.
Can’t believe he was 48 years old he looks too young
Technically he was 47. His birthday is in december and the Academy Awards generally around february/march so yeah... 47 and 2-3 months here
@@YuriYeag3r lmao technically
O
Most deserved oscar . What a boss
Talk about a well earned Oscar, this was it. Magnificent film and magnificent performance by everyone in it, but especially Denzel. Kudos!!!
He's so serious about his faith. I love it.
This guy……..one of the best actors to ever grace the screen.
Too see the excitement in Sidney face was perfect. Congratulations to both. Rest in Peace Sidney.
The man is sooo smooth and so incredibly talented. He should have 10 Oscars by now.
So as Leo
i don't see white people complain Daniel Day Lewis got an oscar for playing a corrupt oil tycoon.
+Calvin Candie So you say. That's white bias clearly showing. Sit down
Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot Lol WHAT!?!?!? That is seriously funny, I'll assume your trolling (:
Is it me or was Ethan about to cry when he shout out to him
+Sam Brown yeah he was
Sam Brown Hawke was amazing in that film also. They were so good together. Ethan Hawke is highly underrated.
Yeah that sounds about right. I wouldn't say I have an issue with it either, it's just a little inaccurate.
1:50 "I wanna be the best actor in the world"
Someone in the audience/another actor: "you are"
There were more than actor’s in the audience. You have no idea who said it.
@@tony4534 You're right. Building full of actors? Couldn't possibly have been another actor or (if you could read) someone in the audience.
Denzel Washington is a true legend.
Julia was so excited and hyped for him 🥺
People today will never know the level of competition and dedication to craftsmanship to acting that was in that room.
Of all his movies, I was happiest that he won an Oscar for this one. Well in Denzel, WELL IN! Almost 20 years later and I'd still choose Training Day over any other movie.
No other actor in this Earth have ever touched or influenced me as this great actor did.
Sir, with great respect and love , let me show the gratitude to express my compassion towards your acting talent as well as your humbleness .
Did the actor make the film or did the film make the actor. Crowe was part of a very prestigiously made film. Washington made the film.
If you watch it now. There is a lot of bad acting by the supporting cast. Ethan Hawke and Denzel Washington were the only bright spots.

Ultimate Warrior I loved the two of them in American Gangstar, they really nailed it
