  • Miniature Rose Care - How to Grow Roses and Transplant!
    How to care and grow miniature roses and care for them. I will demonstrate how to cut them back, root health and replanting, dealing with blackspot and fertilizing them to give them a new start before planting out into the garden. I will also address how to protect them in colder climates like here in zone 3b.

    Thank you for actually making an informational video where you weren't trying to be funny or sell me something. I have watched a double digit amount of videos since purchasing a Royal Ruby miniature rose plant, and I have learned more from this video then the rest of those others combined.

      Perfect timing I was hoping to grow my collection in the Spring and do some propagation. So I can definitely do a video on it. So much more economical.

    I enjoyed your video. Thanks for the Shake n Feed tip ! I never knew it was called that. I was asking for slow release fertilizer and always met with " I don't carry it. It's not necessary. Just use our Scott's rose fertizer".
    My roses are very green and leafy but I only have two new blooms and I waited a month for them after dead heading. I watched a video that said to dead head and add coffee grounds to speed up new growth and buds. Which works well but your advice here seems more to my liking.
    Two of 8 in the same 7 inch pot budded and gave blooms. I'm in Calgary. I grow indoors and take them outside for 5 hours each day and have to babysit them as I live amist downtown office buildings.
    I transplanted them all into a 7 inch pot a month after getting them. Couldn't find bone meal or slow release so just gave them L E D lighting until I learned they need full sun.
    Difficult to find sun downtown here and a bench nearby close to home where I can sit in shade.
    Yesterday, before seeing this video, I cut off most leaves. I kept the 5 leaf branches and new growth , trying to cut to a small bud on the outside of a stem bend. The plant grew 3 inches with only one hour sun this morning and looks healthy.
    I get yellow dried out leaves nd gave it onion peel water which seems to help.

      Nice to meet you and thanks for the feedback. Yes you’re in a challenging situation with the amount of sun you get and finding slow release fertilizer. Light is gonna be the key to get them to bloom for sure. You could also give them some ground up egg shells so they get some calcium. If you have any liquid fertilizer you could give them a drink every other week when you water as well to help them produce blooms. I think you’re on the right track. Use the led lights to give them a good 16 hours light.

      @@creatingmygardenHello ! I have a question. What do I do if I'm cutting down the stems but there aren't any nodes to cut down to ? Do I wait for nodes to develop ?

      Yes they were super cheap and i couldnt pass them up Lowes does that every so often just trying to keep them going till i can ant them out. I know they arent hardy here and i will have to protect them for winter but they are just so cute and fragrant. They are now leafing out again i just check them this morn and gsve them some fertilizer slow release that had copper to help them i used Miracle Grow its pretty well rounded for nutrients. Let me know if you gove this a try and how it goes.

    Thank you for this informative video. I was so happy when you said that you're in Saskatchewan and that they'd survive the winter because I just planted mine in the garden here in Toronto and I was worried they wouldn't make it to the next year.

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes as long as you protect them they will survive on fact your climate is warmer then mine so ypu should be ok make a nice mound of mulch dirt or even rose cones over them and leave it on till all danger of frost pasts. Then trim any dead branches off once you start seeing some growth points on the branches.

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @katrini1964 yes that can happen if they dry out just give it a good soak and cut it back it and it will leaf out again if it isn’t totally brittle. The one I got for Valentines was also very dry so I gave it a good soak. Cut off any dried out blooms if it’s still alive it will come back. They don’t like to dry out.

    I have a mini rise bush and I would like some tips on keeping it alive. I got it for Mother’s Day and it was a store bought mini rose bush.

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Melissa - if its starting to die back cut it down to 1/3 and it will flush back. Start feeding it with a fertilizer every other week. I would also pot it up if you haven't already and give it some nice fresh soil. Then if you like you could plant it in your garden or keep it going in your house. Water from the bottom to prevent disease weekly they like alot of water and don't like to dry out. Let me know how it goes!

    There are a few mini rose plants in one pot. Do you grow them all tether like this in pots and in the garden? Is it necessary to separate them first and then repot them together in a bigger pot? Thank you for your advice.

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With these I actually planted them and took them out of their pots. Definitely would be beautiful all in one big pot and you could leave them in their original pots then plant in ground at end of season. I may try that this year for my new cottage garden. Then add a couple trailing plants with them and some white edge flowers.

    Hi. Here in Ontario.
    My daughtdr bought me a mini rose bush an wS beautiful where is got it. But started to drop its leaves til there was none. Im so bummed out. I changed pots an split them up.
    But now yhe stems are not green any more
    What is wrong with them?. Are they dead?.

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Wanda
      Thank for your comments and watching my videos. I am wondering on the brown stems are there any growth points that look green on the old wood? If there is cut it back to those growth points. Also it wouldnt hurt to check the root ball and see if they are still white roots and if there is you could repot it with fresh soil. To diagnose it further can you send me a picture of it close up at creatingmygarden@sasktel.net. Those are just a few things too of my head that might rejuvenate it. There is still a chance of a deficiency, bugs or even a sudden chill.

    Thank you so much for this video, but I have a question, do these grow tall? And if the stems are healthy do they still need to be pruned all the way down?

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They can grow to knee height. If the stems are nice and healthy then just prune to the nearest leaf set. This will help them put on new growth and more bids.

  • @lynbabb6454
    @lynbabb6454 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Do you prune before winter, or in spring?

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I try to prune in the Spring and sometimes I don’t have to prune much cause the deer and rabbits tend to help me out regretfully. I do protect the roses when they are out in the garden for winter. I cover them with mulch and tarp to protect from the cold and from the animals. Once all danger of frost is gone I remove the protective layers and look for growth then wait a couple days and prune. For winter I leave the roses as tall as possible cause there is always some winter kill on them in spring so I wait to prune them in Spring and start feeding them. I give them crushed egg shells and coffee grounds and some miracle grow fertilizer slow release or whatever I have around monthly throughout summer.
