What's Blooming Walkabout Update! Time for a walkabout to check and see how the containers are doing and what is in bloom in the garden. Some of the plants in this video that are thriving in our mix bag of weather are the petunias, delphiniums, pineapple sage and yarrow. The rest of the plants such as the roses need more heat and hopefully with the weather warming up they will begin to flourish...

      The firefly peach is a proven winners so try a greenhouse that sells Proven Winners. The red yarrow I found at Home Depot. They have a lot of yarrow here. I am trying to plant more drought resistant plants that are easy maintenance and these are reliable and easy to grow. I did grow some from seed waiting to see the colours they are just starting to bud. So you could also try that as well. They are easy to grow from seed if you don’t over water they like to be dry I learnt that the hard way lol.

      Thanks so much the axe was a fun prop actually Rob was using it to get some tree roots out in that bed that I kept hitting with the shovel. I could use it to split plants but that is a little dangerous I can be a clumsy. There was a video of a youtube gardener who was pruning her boxwood hedge with hedge trimmers and for some reason stuck her hand in the hedge. She ended up needing emergency surgery to reconnect her finger tips and lost feeling I. Some fingers that gave me chills.

      That was the most stock I have seen marked down and to have a staff offer to mark any down was a first. I usually ask when I see plants that are dying in bad shape if they are gonna mark them down and a lot of the time the staff will say no but this time she was happy to help so I took advantage of it. Why not sell them rather than garbage them such a waste. I sometimes get the odd one that doesn’t survive after planting but I don’t feel bad about it when I pay $3 for it worth the risk.

My garden looks a hot mess we unfortunately got a bad batch of weedy mulch along with higher temps of 90s( 30ish Celsius)alot of rain high humidity i have to just let my garden go weed this season waiting to cooler weather toward winter where i could overhaul from weeds.its sad but now i know i have to use different style mulch.

    You are correct about the sand, I have a lot of clay and when I went to our reputable garden Center and talked to a horticulturist about gypsum, he suggested using 30% sand as it is less expensive, he did warn about putting too much also. Love your yarrow! Great video. Brenda🇨🇦ZN4

      Yes they say over 30% makes the soil to hard. I find sand helps to break up the clay a bit plus adding other amendments with it should help as well. I just want it to be easier to weed and plant in. Not as concerned about drainage in that bed.

    Beautiful! How do you sow seeds on top of the soil without them blowing away? I had 3 but a couple weeks ago & noticed something attacking them and discovered a green catepillar type thing 😂! Researched to find it was Delphinium Worm which is caused by not cutting them down before winter, the worms hibernate in the hollow stem… darn it! I don’t cut all my plants down in winter because I find the dead foliage protects the crown in our low gardening zone, but Delphiniums are new to me so I’ve learned my lesson! Advice was to cut them down to about 2-3” and they will come back, and they are! I will look for your video on direct sowing them. Thanks so much Brenda🇨🇦ZN4

    🌹🌹🌹🌹 I enjoyed your video. Thanks for the Shake n Feed tip ! I never knew it was called that. I was asking for slow release fertilizer and always met with " I don't carry it. It's not necessary. Just use our Scott's rose fertizer". My roses are very green and leafy but I only have two new blooms and I waited a month for them after dead heading. I watched a video that said to dead head and add coffee grounds to speed up new growth and buds. Which works well but your advice here seems more to my liking. Two of 8 in the same 7 inch pot budded and gave blooms. I'm in Calgary. I grow indoors and take them outside for 5 hours each day and have to babysit them as I live amist downtown office buildings. I transplanted them all into a 7 inch pot a month after getting them. Couldn't find bone meal or slow release so just gave them L E D lighting until I learned they need full sun. Difficult to find sun downtown here and a bench nearby close to home where I can sit in shade. Yesterday, before seeing this video, I cut off most leaves. I kept the 5 leaf branches and new growth , trying to cut to a small bud on the outside of a stem bend. The plant grew 3 inches with only one hour sun this morning and looks healthy. I get yellow dried out leaves nd gave it onion peel water which seems to help.

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Nice to meet you and thanks for the feedback. Yes you’re in a challenging situation with the amount of sun you get and finding slow release fertilizer. Light is gonna be the key to get them to bloom for sure. You could also give them some ground up egg shells so they get some calcium. If you have any liquid fertilizer you could give them a drink every other week when you water as well to help them produce blooms. I think you’re on the right track. Use the led lights to give them a good 16 hours light.
