Very cool! I spent much time between 2013-2018 watching train action in several of these spots, West Tacoma and Steilicoom in particular. Quite a scenic spot for rail fans...and the BNSF guys were always friendly, with the horn blowing!! Thanks for the upload.
Amtrak had 5 Talgo VI sets running under an FRA waiver, til the Nisqually crash. The set that crashed was originally built for Las Vegas service, then acquired by WSDoT when that fell through. A number of cars fr that set survived intact or with minor damage, and there may be enough equipment to put together 5 11 car sets. Two Talgo 8 sets were acquired by Oregon and are FRA compatible and don't need waivers. Big downer is seeing host railroads' units powering trains because Amtrak or WSDoT units aren't properly maintained.
Sounder never ran on the Tacoma - Nisqually section of the Seattle Sub and since the 501 derailment at DuPont, trains have been detoured on the Seattle Sub until the bypass is fully PTC capable which could be late this year. But yeah I will miss it.
Ok, all of these are FANTASTIC catches. However, 1:52 is one of the better ones. 1: It has a freight train in the background. 2: It's on a bridge. 3: The Cascades train is pulled by a UP loco on BNSF tracks!!!!
Cascades Runs between Vancouver BC and Eugene OR. UP owns the Brooklyn Sub from Eugene to Portland, BNSF owns and UP has trackage rights on the Seattle Sub from Vancouver, WA to Seattle, and only BNSF owns trackage from Seattle to Vancouver, BC. This may come across as confusing but you'll probably get it in the future.
Correct, unless one of the two is an NPCU (for example AMTK 90340), which is a locomotive only powered with electricity, without an engine and is powered by the unit on the other end pretty much.
An NPCU is otherwise known as a "Cabbage" a control cab/baggage car--a rebuilt F40PH sans motor. Some Talgos do regularly operate with two powered locos. Though they are not needed to climb 1% Napavine Hill so much--it's all about acceleration out of stations and out of curves. Makes a big difference in timing when you have more acceleration. When you're riding the train, you can actually feel them zoom out of tighter curves.
Well you are definitely not the first person to ask. Long story but basically they are electronic wayside horns that activate for oncoming trains at the McCarver St railroad crossing in Tacoma which is a quiet zone, the city made a bad decision to operate them now that there has been two deaths at the crossing since they first ran them in 2007. Here's a video of them. Look at all the rage in the comments. th-cam.com/video/ErPVfLStPus/w-d-xo.html
They're specially designed Spanish Talgo train sets for Amtrak Cascades service, if you're thinking they're supposed to be designed like the thumbnail shows, they are actually meant to have 2 locomotives on each side and it only had 1. This video only shows some strange consists I've seen with them, they look a lot better when the consists are normal.
There's the Acela Express, a high speed (however not as fast as it's European and Asian equivalents) bullet train in the Northeast of the country, as well as a new train in Florida called Brightline which currently does not travel as fast as a typical bullet train, but it does at least looks like one. Besides that, however, and especially on the west coast where this video was shot, there is no such thing.
@@biz0829 Ummmmmm Amtrak Is Having A Project That Would Cost Them Billions Of Dollars To Make The Project Is Named The "Avela Liberty" The Avela Will Replace The Acela In 2021 The Avela Also Tilts On Curves Then Here's The Full Speed Of The Avela (150-200) The Avela Is Made To Carry America To The Future The First Avela Train Set Will Be Arriving In 2021 Then The Entire Set Will Arrive Starting In 2022
That's the thing I HATE about the cascades train! It's an unusual train, with a unique paint scheme. Half the time seeing it with mis-matching colored locomotives or sized to line up with the fins AGGRAVATES ME!!!!! Even the new chargers don't quite fit! The Cascades is an OCD disaster!
Eggggggggggggggggggggggcellent train spotting !!!
The talgo train looks like the train from Shinkansen
Eg
@@bassethoundfilmsofficial1360 they are similar. But these trains were manufactured in Spain and not Japan.
2:51 Listen to the waves gently lapping against the shoreline
4:04 BEAUTIFUL catch in the snow!
Thank you for posting. I retired from the Air Force out of McChord AFB, and visited the area you filmed from frequently. Brings back memories.
2:15 Fantastic view of Rainier!

Amtrak and BNSF together 👌👌 memorable capture

The dreaded Amtrak BAT TRAIN
Yes
[Timestamp(2:07)] Yeah my favorite one is the F59PHI helping a Siemens SC-44 charger locomotive with as usual, Talgo VI set and a F40PH NPCU.
These are some really cool shots Cooper.
Awesome catches!
Sad that the Cascades, and Coast Starlight aren't on this route any more. Thanks for making this video so we can relive the memories.

Saw your edit lol I spotted the mistake you had It's cool.
the new siemens loco is so much nicer than the old one
Well done! Thanks!!

0:21What's the sound of the horn in?
Sweet video Cooper
Cool Video Cooper 👍👍!!
Where’s the wayside horn coming from?
What location were you at to get the shot at 2:00
The milespost 14 bridge in University place, WA just outside of Steilacoom.
You make good vids I live in Milton near Tacoma
3:45 weird...
Nice!
Hey, that’s *really* good.
does burlington northern santa fed or union pacific own the track the cascades uses?

Can somebody explain to me what are these eard cars behind the locomotives?
The only purpose is to look good
When they have locomotives at both ends, are they both powered.

Was that top'n'tail charger and three superliners a test run or an actual service?
Actual service on train 502.
Where can I find these Cascades trains run so that I could catch one one of them?
StanleyNo.#2 mostly in Seattle to Portland WC.
They run from Vancouver BC, To Seattle WA, To Portland OR
Amtrak Cascades runs between Eugene Oregon and Victoria BC Canada, several trains a day.
At 0:35 what is that horn was it a SD70ACE-Tier 4?

Five stars! *5
Very cool. What's with BNSF and UP power on those trains?
Power failures on the Amtrak units.
cool video
4:05 i ride this train
What is with those weird car designs? Just different. Have a great weekend everyone.

WTF PACIFIK SURFELINER WTH R U DOING IN WASHINGTON?
Awesome catches, other than the F*cking wayside horn.
I think it's a no-horn zone.
@@TackyJhudiel3 Yes wayside horns are used in no horn zones. They’re really annoying.

Only unusual in the North America. They were built in Spain and are quite common in that part of the world.
???????????
weird train
They are not necessarily weird, but uncommon.
These things aren't rare I've seen them lots
Looks like cat ears.
