I was born and grew up in this town and it was a remarkably blissful, simple, sweet childhood. I’m so proud watching this video; I had no idea all these wonderful programs were there. My dad, an engineer, came west to California to join a Silicon Valley manufacturing company when I was 16, just beginning my junior year at ECCHS. It was probably one of the most difficult things I’ve ever gone through. Being so rural, we were a bit isolated with little diversity so I was not prepared for the big city of San Jose. The wonderful thing is that my mom and dad made sure we stayed connected to our many relatives each year, sometimes at Christmas, and always in the summer. We still maintain a home there where we stay when some of us come to visit. Recently we brought our dad’s ashes back to be interred at the St. Marys Cemetery. We will bring our mom’s when the time comes.
This is one of the best, genuine, authentic community videos I have seen. What a great community. Elk County is a cluster of powder metal and related companies, which has made the county an important part of the history of the economy of PA and in worldwide innovative manufacturing leadership. Well done!
I was blown away by this video. I have never watched a video as this that is so authentic, something so comforting, and where townspeople feel so strongly about the place where they live. I have been looking to move somewhere that the town is together with each other and who have a true sense of community. This place definitely does! I know this is a few years old and I would very much like to see an updated video, if possible. What an great sense of community here. I live only a few hours away and definitely want to come for a "look-see" in the near future. I would love to hear from some of you still living there and any other comments, good, bad or in between. Thanks for a great video! Maybe I will meet some of you featured in this video; that would be very nice!
Straub's beer is excellent stuff, Too bad it's not available in a larger area to include western New York. We have to travel down to St Marys for the good stuff.
I just retired from the Army, looking for a small town to retire with my family, any recommendations for any tx information etc that would benefit a disabled Veteran? and information is helpful for St. Mary's
Right across the street from the visitor center is the Stackpole building, and in the parking lot behind is the historic bell tower. As you go further into town you'll quickly realize we tore down every other historic building around town. You will also notice there are no kids left in our town due to a heroin epidemic that wiped out the youth of Elk county, that was caused by a complete disregard for youth and youth activities during the 70's, 80's and 90's. You will also notice a lot of empty factories, remember all those proud local entrepreneurs we mentioned earlier in our presentation, 90% of them sold out to global corporations, who in turn shipped our local jobs over to the Chinese in the 80's and 90's........
Only truthful comment in here. St. Marys has been on a downfall for decades, but sadly no one cares. The population goes down every year. Little amount of young people here. Everyone moves because they want to get out as soon as possible. Also everything bad that happens here just gets swept under the rug. St. Marys is very beautiful, but it isn't as cared about as it should be.
