Man, all that buildup and then someone stands in front of the camera right as he goes off the ramp lmao. Some things never change.
That’s really cool footage, I’m glad that was found. Especially as someone that lives just up the road in Champlin and never knew Evil did a stunt so close. Hell I never even knew there was a dragway around here!

I was there at 6:45am in the pits with my cousin Dale and Sandy Meyer and son Chris. Dale raced a green GTX and Sandy raced a Road Runner. Chris and I walked the pits and at the end of the strip was Evel’s semi and trailer that was awesome no one would come out probably sleeping still it was early. After the jump I was on the track right next to Evel and my cousin Kim and Bridgette got a hug from him. Awesome day I will never forget

Fun to see for me since I'm from Minnesota. I can't believe anyone even SLIGHTLY into cars didn't know about Minnesota Dragways. There was also Twin City Speedway that had an oval dirt track on their property too. Spent many days at both of them. TCS has been closed probably as long as Minnesota Dragways. Fun fact - For a few years, Minnesota Dragways location was used by Yamaha R & D. Twin City Speedway's location is now a trucking/shipping company - BUT the sign (frame only) is still visible by the edge of 35W.

you are thinking of Twin City Speedway which was later known as Northstar Drag Strip. This was at Minnesota Dragways. which was located on what is now Main Street / County Road 14 in Coon Rapids at Avocet St. If you look at an old aerial of MN Dragways you will see the drag strip overlays the current Avocet Street. MN Dragways closed in '76. Next it was owned and used by Yamaha as an R&D site. Early 2000's it was scraped and developed into what is the current 'Wexford' housing development.

The night before the jump, Evil had his pilot land his twin engine airplane on the dragstrip. His airplane wound up running into the rear of his big red trailer.
Both the truck/trailer and the airplane were parked by the control tower on the Pit side of the track.
They were both damaged....but not severely.
On the day of the jump...me and some other boys started climbing on the airplane until a man came and yelled at us.
It wasn't Evil......just one of his flunkies.

Nope 2 different drag strips ! I been to both and the big name racers like Sox and Martin ,Wild Bill maverick of little red wagon fame Jungle Jim and Pam, local legend Tom Hoover Done Garlit's of the swamp rat fame as well as the Army Navy drag tanks the green mamba jet car and all the well known drag racers that were running the circuits all over the nation ran at Minnesota drag ways including Joey Chitwood's dare devil driving team and a host of others I got to see including one guy that would blow himself up in a wood box filled with dynamite which might have been a guy named Wild Bill who had a bar in MN who financed a snowmobile excursion from MN to Russia in the 70s but only made it to green land the one year and had to abandon it on another year which there is a documentary called Wild Bills run that was on PBS and if you look it up you can buy a DVD of it from the guy who did the documentary which I did but this guy Wild Bill used to blow himself up in a wood box filled with dynamite so that very well could have been him back then doing this at Minnesota drag ways but not sure . North Star was more of a none sanctioned track so it was mostly locals and some out of state close by racers drag racing at the strip or the dirt track next to it . My father was a cop for the Mounds view police department and they often got the bids to do the security at North Star and I would get to go with him in the squad car for those nights he worked security at the place and would walk around with him and also watch the races some . At the end of the night when most of the racers and people were gone the owner of the drag strip would let the police cars run the 1/4 mile just to see what kind of times they would run I remember but I don't remember what the ETs we're they were running because it was so long ago it was only 13 at that time. By then Mounds view police cars were running Dodges or Plymouths with the 440 police package engines I remember and before them they used Chevrolet Impala or caprices and before that the black and white Ford Station wagons with the 428 engines I remember because at that time Mounds view didn't have a ambulance so on those calls for a ambulance they would send the squad station wagons to take people to the hospital if needed . The little 3.2 bar as you drove into get to the gate entryway to the drag strip was owned by the Simon's who knew my father for years and one of their sons Mark worked at the 76 gas station on hwy 10 just after the new hwy was put in and he and Denny Ericson both would super tune the squad cars and do maintenance on them way back then . Local Marv Jorgensen also used to frequent the drag strip with his drag motorcycles and would stop in at the bar to drink cheap 3.2 beer and smoke dope in the back while playing pool and got thrown out for doing so by Mark I was told by Mark himself who after my mother and father divorced years later my mother dated and was Marks girlfriend for many years until they both died . The reason why I was on here was because my father and me on the weekends he would have off would go to Minnesota drag ways quite a bit back then and I decided to look to see if any new film footage has popped up and sure enough this came up so I watched it . Years after Minnesota drag ways closed Yamaha R&D bought the land and strip and used it as testing grounds to test the new Yamaha snowmobiles they were designing until they sold that and moved and a developer turned it all into a housing community unfortunately .

1:02 i dont think there has ever been a steam powered harley davidson. idk if you think modern internal combustion engines have a water in the tank but they dont. they are full of petrol. that bike has an internal combustion engine, not a boiler powered steam engine like a train or traction engine (fred dibnah). such a weird think to say and soooo false. i dont think you even noticed but yea. very misleading.

It was an honest mistake Rob,his steam powered machine was was built by Bob Truax and was used at Snake River couple years later. Not weird at all.Her Granddad was there and took this film and must have had the wrong markings on it I think he took film also of the Snake River jump but it was an honest mistake on Kat's part.
