Nick was incredible. The whole house erupted in applause after every one of his performances, especially “Bring Him Home”. His voice carried so smoothly through the whole theater, it was breathtaking. If you have the chance to see him on tour, don’t let the opportunity pass by!
I saw him yesterday in San Francisco. Such a beautiful performance. After this song the crowd has the loudest response of the entire show and you could see on his face that he felt the audiences response. He sang wonderfully and the crowd reciprocated. Thank you so much for your performance and I wish you great things.
I came here for this. I just saw him in person and could not believe the angelic nature of this man's voice carried by the orchestra. It is wonderfully haunting.
My initial reaction to Nick after the show was that he was maybe the most talented person I have ever seen. After sleeping on it, I feel the same exact way. He was amazing.
He’s really incredible. I still tear up just thinking about his performance four years ago. So to think I am only 11 days from seeing him again….I can’t wait. Easily the most beautiful vocal performance I’ve ever heard…or expect to hear. I’m always hopeful for something extraordinary. And in Nick Cartell as Jean Valjean, you definitely get extraordinary.
I have to admit, over the years I've grown a little immune to this song. It's a wonderful song, but it's been almost 30 years since I first heard it and the effect was starting to wear off. So no one was more surprised than me when I saw this tour last year and was blown away by Nick's performance. He did it beautifully and made it seem effortless but utterly heartfelt. People couldn't stop talking about it in the theater corridors afterwards. Definitely the highlight of the show for me.
Nick as Jean Valjean is incredible. I really loved his version of "Bring Him Home". He was quiet enough, but powerful enough to sound like a prayer and just soulful. I saw the show in Greenville on Sunday and I was speechless at the end
I have seen les Mis a few times and have always enjoyed it. Lasr week was different. I was blown away. I saw Nick perform last weekend in Montreal. He was bar none the best Jean Valjean I have ever seen. I searched him out here to tell him so. Brilliant performance that has us all in tears. Bravo.
@@infooptimalfitness7720 ... I didn't think he was that great yesterday in Phoenix. Pretty sad that Fantine and Valjean were the worst parts of the show, but pretty much every other major role was fantastic. Apparently this is the first tour for the actress who plays Fantine, so hopefully she gets better with experience.
Just saw this in Seattle. The first thing I did after the show was look this up. You could hear murmurs of awe as the song went on. This doesn’t do justice to the power of his performance. It’s one of those that just creates instant tears and shudders of awe for being in the presence of true beauty. Go see it!
I saw him last night in Kansas City. He has to have, by far, one of the best voices I have ever heard. This song sounded amazing live and he gave a beautiful, tender performance. He's very talented and so worth going to see.
We saw him sing at the 5th Ave in Seattle last Friday, and it's the first time I saw an audience react like that to ANY performance. It was incredible. The best rendition of Valjean I've ever heard, and I've been lucky to hear some of the greats. Magnificent.
Saw him there four years ago and going back next weekend. It is easily the best vocal performance I’ve ever heard. The awe and appreciation of the audience was palpable. Extraordinary.
saw this production on october 27th, 2018. I’ve seen other productions of les misérables, but this one is by far my favorite! the cast was absolutely perfect! the crowd applauded nick for a straight 45 seconds to a minute after this performance. another time this happened was after joshua grosso finished singing “empty chairs at empty tables”. absolutely insane! I loved every second of this production and will gladly see it a thousand more times!
Just saw Nick Cartell in Les Mis at the SF Orpheum tonight. He was INCREDIBLE. I've seen this show a few times now, have to say, even though Nick is young, he brought it. His voice is like butter. After a good cry, I wanted more. I'm a big fan of the 10th anniversary Les Mis cast & Colm Wilkenson as Jean Valjean, but I have to say, even with his youth, Nick is best Jean Valjean I've seen, now. He made this show tonight. You could feel his presence in the theater, throughout the show & he just seemed to get stronger as the show progressed. I'll definitely look for Nick Cartell in other shows for the future.
I never thought I would find someone to better Colm Wilkenson but Nick is exceptional. On stage with a full orchestra and stage lighting makes for an unforgettable performance. He is the show!
I got the pleasure of seeing him on Les Mis in Portland and mAN IS HE GOOD. Like seriously this man has some serious talent, me and the people around me were tearing up when he preformed this song, it was so so so gorgeous live. Also to the people wondering about him being too young to play Valjean don’t fret he had enough makeup and costume parts to make him look older. But all in all it was and incredible performance and the very FIRST time I’ve ever seen Les Mis and I have to say it’s going to be a night to remember
I was running the stage right tower spot while Les Mis was in Portland and the show was a joy to see every night. What has stuck in my mind more than anything else though is not just the massive and justified ovation that this number received, but the fact that on two separate occasions as the applause started to die down part of the house decided that they were not done and rallied the applause back to full force, which I had never experienced before and was a truly striking experience.
@@MsTokyoBlue I commented earlier, but when I saw this in Seattle four years ago, you could literally feel the audience lock in to how special this was. It was THEE most spectacular performance I ever expect to see. At one point in the song, I quickly glanced around at the audience. I swear every single person; man, woman, and child was in tears. It was truly like being in the presence of such beauty that you’re not sure you deserve it, and the gratitude you have for the experience is simply overwhelming.
I had the privilege of seeing Nick perform as Valjean this past Tuesday in Louisville, Ky. Simply brilliant. Not ashamed to admit that I shed a tear or 2 during this number.
br81zad no shame in admitting tears. When I saw it awhile back, I remember just getting instant goosebumps and that kind of shudder you get when the emotion is so powerful that you almost choke on that first tear. I did take a moment to look around the theater, and that really did me in for good. Tears everywhere, hands over mouths trying to muffle the sound of crying, couples clutching arms wanting to connect with someone sharing the same moment. I will see this again just for that moment. It was truly magical.
Saw him tonight in Denver. The sound in the theater gave his voice a lot of depth....he is amazing, and I guarantee, you will not be disappointed. I've seen Les Miserables 6 times now, and I think he was the best, as was Fantine and Javert.
I saw Nick sing this in Cleveland last night. I’m an agnostic on my best days, but hearing that voice break out of the darkened stage, being a part of an audience who collectively gasped and held their breath - it was a truly spiritual experience. People wept. I actually thought to myself, I just heard God. And live, no less. Perfection. His is hands down the best rendition of this song I have ever heard- and I searched. Wow.
100% accurate. Saw him last night. I have NEVER heard the audience stay so silent for so long. We were all spellbound. His voice is truly hypnotic. After this song people erupted in applause and verbal cheers that went at least 3x the normal length of a scene change applause period.
Saw live in Phoenix last night and it was astonishing perfection. The audience couldn’t contain their emotion afterward and essentially stopped the performance of the play to sustain and continue a rousing ovation after this song. The most complete, patient, dynamic performance of this amazing song I’ve ever heard. Brilliant performer not to be missed! Grateful to have seen it.
Exactly. It really just defies written superlatives. It’s a kind of emotion that only music brings out. And when someone as talented as Nick sings something as powerful as this??? Please anyone on the fence about it, trust us. Go see it.
saw him in Miami 2 days ago.. awesome! Great! production perhaps the best I have seen including Bwy.. The sets were fantastic!! Congrats Nick! and the rest of the cast
Saw him in Richmond, VA last night. I have seen different touring companies four or five times, and he is by far the best Jean Valjean I have ever seen!! Thank you, @nickcartell!
I recently saw Les Miserables starring Nick Cartell and I have been obsessed with his Valjean character, he is truly amazing, and he sounded better when I saw him, still amazing here though
I saw him in Cleveland about a month and a half ago and it was beautiful. After the last note, when everyone was applauding. I heard my mom say "Holy shit!" under her breath. And I think that's how the whole audience felt.
Yes. When I saw him in Seattle, I heard one person murmur, mid-song, “oh my God”. And through my own tears, looking around at the end, EVERYONE was in tears. Truly, truly magical.
I just saw him tonight which lead me to search for this video. This song on stage tonight was beyond this one. It was the kind that stays with you forever.
Just saw him live today and came looking for this immediately after. Wow just wow! His performance will take days to process. It was the most beautiful and genuine performance I’ve ever seen
I just saw this performance last night it was amazing!! This song actually had me sobbing it was so beautiful and touching. Nick as Jean Valjean was incredible. The whole cast was absolutely fantastic. Wonderful tour of Les Miserables. Bravo!!
I saw this musical for my birthday this year, and let me tell you, nick is by far the BEST Jean Valjean there ever was or ever will be. He brought everyone to tears! He’s super nice too :)
Just saw him perform this live at the Hollywood Pantages and it was literally breathtaking, like I held my breath till the very end. An amazing actor with an even greater voice!
Saw this live in Madison, and I was crying because it was so beautiful. The show was incredible, but this song in particular was simply outstanding. I want to see him again in this role.
We saw Nick in Les Miz last night in Los Angeles. His rendition of "Bring Him Home" was fantastic! I've never heard anybody hold the last note out as long as he did....and from a technical singing standpoint....keep in mind, he performs this song while SITTING DOWN!! (Or that the very least "leaning"/perched on the barricade.) Yes, he SEEMS a bit young...and they could have aged him a BIT MORE....but Colm Wilkinson was only 31 when he originated Valjean in 1985....I doubt Nick is much younger. If you're not looking through binoculars (I often am...) it's not a big deal. Nick was a standout in a cast that was....well...uneven...
i saw him last night, he's absolutely amazing he got a standing ovation for this song last night and just omg. i would give anything to see this show with that cast for the first time again
So well said. I’m going to see him again after four years since the last time. I fully expect it to be incredible. But there’s something about the shock and wonder of that first time.
For my birthday, my daughter took me to see Les Miserables in Charlotte. I have seen this incredible work of art at the Fox theater in Atlanta and also in London. Never have I seen this beautiful song performed with so much passion, so beautifully heartfelt.
Just saw Nick tonight at Gammage Theatre at Arizona State University, his Alma Mater (and mine). The crowd went crazy, not just he is one of our own, but because he was incredible. Thanks for bringing it back to ASU, absolutely loved the entire show.
Agree with many of the comments. I just him in San Francisco. I was absolutely blown away by his performance! The performance by the entire cast was spectacular but he is special and was absolutely stunning!

You have to hear him sing this in person. It’s almost like listening to a spiritual prayer
Saw him sing it last night. He is an incredible Valjean.
@Carl Lindman also saw him Detroit, was unreal. Also, seemed better then last tour he played him. His Bring Him Home was absurd
i saw him here in chicago and you’re 100% right. He’s so amazing and his voice is beautiful
just saw him last night and i had tears streaming down my face, it was so beautiful
Oh yes, saw him 2 nights ago and he was amazing!!

jaelynn did u see him Denver 2018 when they had to stop the music cause of his singing
The same thing happened when I saw him
@@sminkle12 what happened with stopping the music? I'm seeing him December 6th and cant wait!
