  • Some experimental aikido solo practice (without partner). The piece of wood can be used to improve your mobility, grip, tai sabaki, timing... you can even do some basic techniques with it.
    0:03 Arm mobility
    0:29 Different grips
    1:52 Tai sabaki
    2:31 Simple entrances
3:34 Different attacks and some basic techniques
The wooden partner is just a piece of wood - on the video you can see a short one made of axe handle (it is long as my forearm plus 5-10 cm) and the long one is pickaxe handle (it has bigger reach and momentum).
This is a exploration in progress - try it and let us know how it worked.
The video is done by Martin Švihla (5th dan Aikikai) from Aikido Prague Vinohrady
Original inspiration was from this video with Tada Hiroshi Shihan • Neribo

During the isolation of COVID-19 I saw many attempts, here I see an innovative approach. Not a few meters on the carpet, not jo / bokken, but something bold, interesting and inspiring. Bravo.

Wow! This is really working! What a nice idea! Awesome. :) There is a number of issues I am struggling with that, which I can train this way. Wonderful! Thank you!

The wooden Partner is called Neribo , think it might mean something like: a bo for forging the body

Yes, the term "neribo" uses Tada Hiroshi Shihan for his wooden tools in his video - I'm mentioning his video in the description of the video above. I use the term "wooden partner", because it's in English and we sometimes use ordinary "jo" for this purpose.
Whatever is the name - it's pretty useful and quite fun. :)

@@martinsvihla Yes sorry, I saw it too late. The neribo is a nice practicing tool for using at home, I often use it while I watch television

Maybe no music and some verbal lesson for next time but other than that, great!

Thanks for your comment and recommendation! I was thinking of creating some more videos, also with verbal / subtitled instructions... then lockdowns ended here and I thought it's not interesting for people anymore. Do you think it's still actual topic?
