Ive been practicing Jo as part of my Aikido training for many years but while researching jo katas I came across this. I’m very impressed with the quality of form. Very stable and strong and precise movement. This is a good video for basic training but actually for any level. I practice karate as well as Okinawan Kempo and we can find good strong karate/Kempo stances here: zenkutsu dachi, kokutsu dachi and Shiko dachi. A tip when practicing is to practice in earth, water, fire, air and ether styles. Thanks for the video. Well made. No frills but very useful to watch. Also love the music! Well done. Do some more!
@@aikidozentrumbasel68 Hello Aikidofriends. Long time no see. Study weapons takes a lifetime for my small mind… On this moment it’s slow down a bit due the pre-tests and corrections after for my own next level and the examinations around. I could manage most of the basic moves and related. To get ‘in mind’ I do dayly the 7, 13 and 31 jo kata. Alone, not awase… After the examinations it’s time to reconnect with the solo training with jo and bokken. Thanks for your interest. Arigato !!!
Bonne continuation La Vaillante Aikido Angers
Really nice, I think I will start training again, I really enjoy Jo in fact. However a concern comes to my mind, what happens if you hit a real target? Your movmeent will be stopped in the middle of its way right? Thanks for your replies !
I think that this is a valid point in practical terms especially when the attack is not symmetrical, but the Suburi and Kata teach the basic movements and their transition from one to another. This is something that needs to be borne in mind with all aikido techniques, that they are the basic forms. Some people argue that because they are not necessarily practical in themselves that the art is useless in a real situation, but they allow for the training without harm. In this case, if the end of the Jo contacts someone's head or other bony part it is likely that the rest of the Kata will not be required, similarly with empty hand.
My apologies - did you reverse some of the postures for the purpose of keeping the action on camera? Because as far as I know - the first 5 start in left posture; either from Hito E Mi, or Chudan no Kamae, and only swap to right hand posture for the shomen strikes. I can understand if that was the case - i.e. trying to keep the movements visible - but it could throw out someone using this as a reference point video
This is a great video. Honestly one of the most useful and didactic I've seen so far. Thank you!!!
Thank you.
As someone new to the Jo, I'm impressed by the precision displayed in this video.
thank you!!, i am just starting to study this simple yet complex tool / weapon. Nice, clean demonstration. Greetings from europe
You are welcome.
beautiful jo saburi
We produced the video of special request from a student during dojo closing time (pandemics). Let us know if it helps you by your daily training.

Thank you Grant Burrows for your comment. You ask for more videos. Do you have any think in mind?
Good practice for myself. Downloaded the clip and study them...
That is nice to here. Could you manage all?

Very good kihon.
Good form and control. See if you can shift the control of your weapon from your upper body to controlling it with your lower body.

Nice. But why some techniques are mirror-inverted ? Right left

Für Linkshänder?
What is your style of aikido ? (Aikikai/Kobayashi ryu ....)?
Sure it's not iwama ryu
The meaning and purpose of the exercices are not known.
There are videos out there showing the counter movements.
I think it is to scare the opponent before he reaches you. Pay attention 😉
👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷
Все субури особенно мен неправильно😢
It is useful, but it would be even better without the music. Aikido speaks for itself.
