      Cheers Tom appreciate the kind words. Loved this bike. I want to try the F850 when the dealer gets it in. Think it wouldf be a great bike for commuting from out of town.

    Remember me ? Maybe not - I was undecided abt going with this or the Street Twin a couple of months ago. I decided on this. Well the slightly de-tuned 700GS version of it, which comes as a low suspension option and is smaller and more nimble than the 800, making it a brilliant option for the city. Even here in Bangkok where the traffic is insane, it handles the city traffic pretty well. Anyway - just thought Id let you know I got the BMW in the end and I dont think I will ever need another bike. Which is not necessarily a good thing. LOL! Thanks for helping me make that decision.

      +pierre verwey hey Pierre! Yeah I remember. Thanks for stopping by and letting me know! I’ve ridden the 700 a couple of times when I’ve hired bikes on holiday and it’s such a fun bike and probably a little easier to ride in the city because of the lower height. So I can see why you went with it! I even remember it being a LOT of fun on the twisties too

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Pawel Kisiel YOU LUCKY MAN! It's an awesome bike. To be honest I barely got out of the traffic and even when I got to the A4 it was a 40mph limit. If I'd have made to the M4 it might have been a different story. Anyway - congrats!!! 🎉🍾 maybe you can let me know how it rides without the traction control on?

    • @pawelkisiel6539
      @pawelkisiel6539 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks m8! I'm not sure if f800gs has enough power to get traction control restricting power...I guess maybe when accelerating in greasy conditions or if you wheelie it with clutch. It has less power than my Tracer I just sold, but it has enough bottom and midrange to use it as commuter London traffic. I certainly love the look of this particular bike with red trelli frame. I was thinking of f800 GSA but this bike was at bargain price having only 130 mls on the clock! I'm hoping to pick her up next week or maybe this weekend! fingers crossed!

    • @pawelkisiel6539
      @pawelkisiel6539 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also felt that suspension is much better than my Tracer.. more planted on the road and quality ride. it dives under braking but it is expected on such bike

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Pawel Kisiel yeah the ride is awesome. Totally agree about the looks too - it's one of my favourite BMWs. Really hope you enjoy it! Congrats again

    I was looking at these for options for my A2 licence. I looked at this and the f800R from BMW :D. Looks alot better with the USD forks over the 700 series

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Seriously awesome bike. The 700 (which replaced the 650 I rented in Tenerife I think) is pretty different - much much much lower. Think this is more of a legit off roader. If I had the money and more importantly somewhere to store it so it woudn't get stolen I'd be seriously tempted. You're right the forks look awesome - the whole bike just looks sleek. Think the 700 has cast alloy wheels and the spoked ones on this just take it up a level. They had the F800R in the showroom so maybe I'll try it some time. They had loads of sweeeeeeeet variants of the RnineT too.

    • @SMU_3L
      @SMU_3L 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Moto Bob The RnineT is a bea-uuuutiful bike. the brushed metal looking tank is very goo looking, like the R1M tank. Im now thinking of going Monster 797 or MT07 for my A2 in June. Maybe the Z800E. Not sure yet :D

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MT07 looks great for sure and I've always liked Ducatis. Spoilt for choice I guess! Got a test ride lined up on a Triumph Street Twin next week and also hoping to get a ride on an XSR700 which I think looks ace too.

  • @Ry666
    @Ry666 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is your seat at stock height? I'm wondering if a 6 foot 1 inch (1.85 meters) tall person would be able to flat foot a f800gs.

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ry666 hmmmm maybe. Yeah it was at stock height. Just a little too tall for me. But at 6 foot 1 you should be close. You can also get it lowered

  • @godoyfg1
    @godoyfg1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi , I've been thinking about the F700gs but I would consider the 800gs or even 800gs adventure. Is it possible to ajust the suspension for your height?

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fernando Godoy you can either get a low seat or a lowering kit for the suspension or both I guess! Not sure if that's a standard option or an extra, so I would check with the dealer as extras at BMW are usually pricey. F700 is a great bike so it might be a better shout if you don't need to mess about with it. I hired an F650GS in Tenerife and had just as much fun on it!

  • @CanadianTexaninLiguria
    @CanadianTexaninLiguria 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should try the Triumph - 10X better - adjustable suspension, cruise, no deafness from the windscreen and a seat thats comfortable after more than 45 minutes. And I own a F800GS.

    • @DavidslvPT
      @DavidslvPT 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Which models is that you are comparing? (which year is the F800GS model you referring and the triumph model) - I'm just curious because I'm still undecided between the Tiger 800 and the GS 800

    • @CanadianTexaninLiguria
      @CanadianTexaninLiguria 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any F800gs against XCX or XRX. BMW never fixed the suspension on the F8 since it was born.

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've ridden both - check my channel for the Tiger. I enjoyed riding both bikes, but the Triumph might edge it. I think it's down to personal preference - just go and test ride them I say!

    • @CanadianTexaninLiguria
      @CanadianTexaninLiguria 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try riding either for at least 8 hours. They might seem ok riding around the streets at 50 kmh. But try highway speeds for a day. This is where a stock BMW fails. Front end dive, extreme turbulence and without the comfort seat, your ass will die. You can bring the F8 to Triumph spec, you'll just have to spend several thousand dollars more.

    I have the 2009 model, and have an intense hatred for the indicator switches. How did you find them on there? :-)

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've ridden a couple of older models and I think they had the ones you have - a button on either side and a separate cancel button? The newer BMWs including this one have a good old single switch on the left grip which you push to cancel. I know exactly what you mean about the older style though - they take some getting used to. Wonder if you can convert them?

    • @Aidentified
      @Aidentified 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the beemer evangelists claim once you're used to the system its superior, but given that I can't reach the cancel or right indicator with my thumb, without closing the throttle, or opening it fully, I can't say I agree... I should pop in to the dealer and ask them about a convert, see if they think its possible/plausible. I'd have to ignore the fangled suspension and ABS buttons if I did that though :p

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just googled it - sounds like a massive pain to convert so you might just have to grin and bear it...

    Hi motobob. Out of all the bikes you have reviewed, which 1 would be your choice for travelling with your wife back to brugge to sample all that loverly belgium beer

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nathan! I reckon the F800GT for that kind of riding. It has a much better screen than the GS and is a lot lower, which would be preferable with the wife and luggage on board as I haven't got the longest legs and would prefer to flatfoot on both sides if possible when fully loaded.
      That said I wouldn't buy a bike based on one trip. The GS is probably a bit more fun and a bit more of an all rounder. Probably the most fun bike I've tested was the Triumph Street Twin. Perfect for urban riding which is 90% of my time on the bike.

    I owned an 800 gs years ago,apart from a few minor mods,and colours ,BMW have done nothing to it since it was introduced in 2008,its due for a major update.

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It stands up pretty well against some of the other bikes I've test ridden lately, but you're right that it's only a matter of time before it gets outdated. How did yours fare in the long run? I only had a short time to test it but I rented a 650 GS for a week last year and really enjoyed it.

      I didn't own it long it felt under powered ,and i hated the old BMW indicators,other bikes in its class have moved forward,this bike hasn't,and the new africa twin,is similar in price.
