One thing that always separated Star Wars from Star Trek was that there was not much exposition of technology per se and virtually no technobabble. But it's still nice to see some of that in this episode. The video phone call (2 of them in this episode!) and the Luthen ship escape (one of the coolest things I've ever seen in Star Wars) are another great example.

Regarding Mon Mothma's missing money, I don't think her issue is that she is desperate for the 400,000 credits. Its implied she's been moving around a lot more than that. The problem is that the Empire introduced new financial tracking whilst she was moving stuff around and the 400,000 got stuck somewhere, leaving a hole in her accounts.
Essentially, she's stuck with a large error in her financial records, with no "paper trail," to indicate where the money went and why. So if the Empire were to take a closer look at her accounts, there would be a worrying error that might attract further attention - and then, if they looked closer, they might realise that she's up to some shady stuff.
So it wouldn't be much help if Vel just gave her 400,000 credits. That would fill the lost cash, but it still wouldn't explain where the original 400,000 went. It would also expose Vel to further scrutiny, as it would just make the ISB suspicious as to why she's transferred that money to Mon Mothma.
What she needs, effectively, is a money launderer. She needs to move her existing pot of cash to another account and she needs to do it in such a way that it doesn't arouse suspicion. That's why she may need to get in bed with a known criminal, as they tend to have experience with moving money around in ways that can't be traced.
Essentially, she's screwed. She wants to retain her morals, but she is not a criminal herself. She needs to come to terms with the fact that she wants to fund an illegal terrorist movement and so needs to start acting like a criminal instead of a senator.

I literally cannot get enough of this show. It is so perfect!
One thing I noticed, when Saw keeps saying “30 men” then Luthen keeps saying “plus Kreeger” I think that says a lot about Luthen. It says that he cares about everybody taking part in the rebellion and understands the sacrifice everybody is making. He doesn’t want them to be forgotten.
Luthen escaping the Empire in his ship was one of the coolest things Star Wars has ever done. I mean, those lasers were genius!
Also, I don’t think this gets talked about enough. Say what you will about Disney and what they have done with Star Wars, but they have NAILED it with Droids! BB-8, K2SO, and now B2EMO. They have given them amazing personalities and make us really feel for them.
Lastly (somebody else pointed this out) whenever Andor said “she would be proud of me” then him looking out at the water from the beach, that mirrors his final scene with Jyn in Rogue One. He says “your father would be proud of you” then they look out into the ocean. That was just…this writing is just so top-tier man!

that is a Cantwell-class Arrestor Cruiser neat history of this ship.
Colin Cantwell originally pitched the design of what would become the Imperial Arrestor Cruiser directly to George Lucas,[14] for use in the 1977 movie Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, although it was ultimately discarded in favor of a completely different design.[15] The design had been derived from World War II aircraft carriers. Originally called the Sith Carrier, the ship was to launch Sith Fighters, and the dishes on its sides were intended to be used to destroy various ships. This idea was eventually adapted for the superlaser weapon of the Death Star.[16]
The production crew for Solo discovered Cantwell's design while reviewing Lucasfilm's archives. Industrial Light & Magic then created a high-fidelity CG model of the vessel for use in the film.

Cassian is so important because he links Luthen to Aldhani and Vel, an through Vel compromises Mon Mothma. He's one of very few people that can take down major nodes in the nascent Rebellion without even knowing it, and is the sort of risk that Luthen has in the past been careful to mitigate against. Even Krieger, the leader of another major Rebel cell, doesn't know what Luthen looks like.

After seeing what his ship can do I wouldn't be surprised if his "cane" can do 5 different things with the main ability being a hidden bloody lightsaber that just happens to be a cane and a telescope. But nonetheless I wouldn't mind if Luthen had no connection to the Jedi or if he was one, make for a fun surprise if he was a former Jedi and would no doubt bring in those fans who are mad that there's no mention of the Force Jedi or lightsabers. You know people who expected the show to throw the Jedi and the force in their face but instead they kept it hidden "Hah there was a Jedi all along it was Luthen".
Also something I really loved is at 15:52 this is a Cantwell-class Arrestor Cruiser named after Colin Cantwell who designed pretty much all the original Prototype movies for the ships in the original trilogy. This ship was pitched for A New Hope and was meant to be a carrier that deployed Star Destroyers which at this stage in Pre Production were much smaller. The ship would later be first brought to life in Solo within the background on a hologram when Solo was signing up for the Empire. It also showed up in a deleted scene showing Solo training inside an X-Wing which he crashed onto the Cantwell-class Arrestor Cruiser trying to dock inside the hangar. Just really cool to see old concept art brought to life decades later.

So the ship that stopped Luthen is called a "Cantwell-Class Arrestor Cruiser". It was a rejected ship designed by concept artist Colin Cantwell for episode 4 (if I recall correctly it was a star destroyer concept). The designs were found by the solo crew and they put a name to it and put it in the movie, but the sequence was cut. He was also the person who designed and named both the X-Wing and Y-Wings, along with a few other featured ships from the ot.
Cantwell unfortunately passed back in May of this year, so they desided to include the design in Andor as a tribute to him.

Syril is the type of guy that when he hires in at a job, everyone pulls each other in corners to warn each other that the new guy looks like someone who could go postal. Just edgy and creepy.

This episode makes me think that Luthen is an ex-Jedi. He converted in lightsaber hilt into a cane, he's dead calm in a fight, he has kyber crystals, and he has lightsabers out the sides of his ship.
Of course all of these things could be explained by him being an antiques dealer with nefarious connections and money. :)

I heard the confusion about where the other people are who broke out the prison and I actually think it's not that crazy we only see these 2. As Adam said, that was a huge sea/ocean, probably a little smaller than the Caspian Sea north of Iran, so really big. Even someone who can swim well would struggle, someone who can barely swim or not at all will just die and if you try to help someone who is bad at it, you'll probably die as well (that's why I think it's logical that Kino didn't jumo because he would have drowned 100% and drowning is one of the worst deaths). It also depends on the direction you try to escape, if you inadvertently chose the wrong side you suddenly have to swim around another prison (with it's swirl thingys) or just wider until you're at a shore. Depending on how long you swam, there might be imperiasl scouts on their way already. And as we saw in this episode, the scout ships are still looking for the escapees quite persistent. So the chance you actually manage to leave the planet is low af! I think that Cassian and Melshi get there together is a miracle and therefore an experience that will bond these two for the rest of their life.

Andor has been such a brilliant, unexpected pleasure that if ep 12 is a slapstick musical w/ break dancing Jawas and a food fight between Rey and Jar Jar it would still go down as the best iteration of Star Wars I've seen.

It's a Fondor "Haulcraft." Also the Arrestor Cruiser was seen in Solo. It's a ship designed specifically to stop ships from fleeing, it can also be used to "tow" unmaned ships for reposistioning. I'm wondering if Maarva isn't actually dead and the funeral is a cover for an attack on the hotel / ISB headquarters on Ferrix..

Intro bullshit aside, as an ensemble cast, this is the best acted Star Wars content I have ever seen and it's also for my money the best written. I hope we get more quality writing and acting like this show in the future for Star Wars.

I'm not sure what Mon's daughter and her friends were chanting. It would have been nice to hear; not sure if it was some Chandrilan thing, or some Pro-Palpatine thing. Either option would likely annoy her mother, which I think was the point.

Totally agree, Star Wars is great considering the fact you can have so much different media aimed at so many different tastes, but this is my taste I don’t need big sagas, Jedi and sith in my face, the universe has been built to an extent that I just want to experience that, ground level, gritty, human cost Star Wars, this is the best flavour of Star Wars and I don’t wanna go back

Those countermeasures were sick ... He litteraly forced them to increase the power of the tractor beam so they would have more effect. I love it. And the sound of the turret of Luthen's ship, it's a turbolaser sound. And the empire ship is an Arrestor cruiser, and Luthen's ship is a haulcraft.

How gut wrenching will it be if the timeline for
Andor's time in prison was much longer because
they were all trained up and planned the escape.
Then by the time he calls and finds out that his
mom is dead, she's been buried for months!
    Oh!
I was thinking that Luthen was/is Jedi, because of the crystal, and his emotion control. But when we put it all together for me, the talking/grieving with ghosts, the crystal, the leather wrapped
lightsaber, and the way he knows who to bring in.
He's force sensitive for sure! IMO
