Could you please explain how the star start/stop hiding stitches stay in? Won't the ends come undone with use and laundering?

I agree, this will unravel eventually.
You can sew both yarn 🧶 ends together, with regular thread 🧵 same color as the stars … just an idea, for those who are worried about them coming apart.
