Icom's Revealing New Radio Components | Flex 8000 Series Radio | Yaesu Tech Troubleshooting

- My first time to Dayton's Hamvention. Overall, it was similar to Orlando Hamcation and I spent most of my time in the Vendor's Forum due to inclement weather. After the rain had stopped, the Swapmeet areas were full of mud.
Icom introduced their components of their new Radio that will be revealed in Japan August 2024. Flex radio revealed their new 8000 series Radio. Additionally, I asked Roger for advice on helping me troubleshoot to why my Rotator does not operate in High Speed.

What a great question at 10:21 , Darren. I own a RF2Ks and it seems as most of the companies will exclude third party PAs. And, the detailed answer speaks for itself. Although Im addicted to ICOM, hard to believe that their x60 with that DVI will deliver the same usability!
Hi Darren, thank you very much, this is an excellent video.🎙️🎥👍🏻
Great video Darren as always, congratulations on the new Flex 8600M.
Well actually it's the Flex 8600M. I wanted a built in front panel. Who know, Maybe this will be my POTA Rig. lol Joking. I don't know if I really need to have 4 independent band/mode receivers and save the money and just get the 8400M.
Thanks, Darren! Thanks for the Flex preview! Looking forward to your review of the 8600M when you get it. Will see if I need to upgrade from my 6600. Also will love to see how your Anan G2 compares. 73!
Right on! I was thinking to myself if I should get the 8400M instead? I'm primarily going to use it for Remote HF and the Anan G2 at my base rig with the IC7610 as my backup if my computer dies. Additionally, with 8400m or 8600m, it already has a Maestro built in and can be used as a stand alone.
@@DarrenN4VFR Go 8600M if $ not an issue. I love my 6600, which I got a great deal on. You can have four VFOs at once, plus the other expanded capabilities. May end up being your main rig? Flex will keep upgrading software, which expands/enhances the radio. You could travel w/Maestro. Keep up the good work. 73.
Great video Darren. Hope the sims went alright. I wouldn't be paying $9 for that sandwich. Just finished watching the tower videos. Great work 😁
I used to remote control my IC-7610 in Minnesota from Florida. I had a computer in Minnesota connected to the IC-7610 that I used for digital modes and logging. I used RDP or RealVNC to connect to the computer from Florida. I used Icom’s RS-BA1 second edition software just for the audio. The graphical interface of the RS-BA1 software was clunky and crude compared to HRD remote control software or the Win4Icom remote control software. The Flex radios are built from the ground up to be remotely controlled, not an after thought.
I don’t currently have a remote HF station setup, but if I set up a remote station again, I’d buy a Flex radio.
Thank you, Darren! Always with awesome videos & great quality information. I appreciate 🙏 73's de kp4cz-Jose. 🏆
Thank you!
Congrats on the new rig! De n5vwn,SD
Darren you are correct! The clue is two RJ45 ports Icom is announcing it's new SDR radio.I will be staying with my Flex kit 6600
though.I have a PGXL and tuner genius honestly they are Superb the amp is quality!!
Thanks Darren
You're welcome, I enjoyed making the video.
New Icom radio is going to be an HF rig designed for remote operation.
Icom radio to compete against the Flex Radio
The future of the hobby. It's called Amateur Computer.
The Icom has some HF sections, I would guess a modular SDR.
I didn’t see you there at the Dayton Hamvention 2024. It was packed on Friday and Saturday. Much less crowded on Sunday. I hope you make several videos remote controlling the flex 8600! The Flex antenna tuner looked great! I think that you could mount it close to the antenna in a weather resistant dog house sized container.
Didn’t see the Acom remote antenna tuner in the DX Engineering area? The Acom remote antenna tuner looked I like an alternative to the MFJ 998 remote antenna tuner that you modified to make it more resistant to starting on fire!
It was my first time to the Dayton Hamvention, after thinking about going for years, but never doing it. I plan to go to the Dayton Hamvention next year!

Hello Dave, Sorry I missed you at the Hamvention. I was only there for 1 day. I'm in Cinnci for Flight Simulator Training. Like right now, I just finished being in the Flight SImulator for 4 hours. I'm mentally beat. One of my check rides is tomorrow.
I will definitely make some Flex Videos. I don't see a whole lot of videos on them on TH-cam. I'll also make a comparison with the Anan G2. Once I get the remote control to the Flex 8600M, I'll probably sell my IC7610. That's my Remote HF Workhorse. Thanks for keeping up and 73 de N4VFR Darren
a dream maybe but an IC7300 with vhf & uhf ?
Great 👍🏽 bro.. I am waiting to see a comparison between Flex and Annan G2👋🏻enjoy and tnx for sharing 73 🎙Ira
I canceled my G2 screen model to many lies and excuses why My radio not delivered

New SDR to compete with the Flexradios of this world, over 100 W output, very likely all mode, basically next gen 7610, how about 7660 (for 60 years), with much higher modularity
X60
No display...
No main knob (frequency input)
🤔
Awesome a remote HF radio all in one...

Icom, wetting the appetite by giving us a hint. But won't be revealed until August in Tokyo. Time will tell what the new HF Unit will entail.
I see a fan for a CPU, a antenna tuner, no display board. My guess is an SDR radio to compete with the FlexRadio. N2SQ
RCA Jack's use mostly for video outputs so this is going to have ATV capabilities!
Yaesu should lay a resistor on the table and tell the world that a new radio will be announced in 2 years.
😅
I hope they incorporate something similar to pure signal.
They do, I think it's called Pre-Distortion. It also has a cable to RF sample to make the adjustments. It will be clean like an Anan. I'm not up to speed on what the Flex is capable of, but I want it primarily for Remote HF.
@@DarrenN4VFR I'll wait for your reviews while I'll save for it, that's gonna be a lot of bottles and aluminum cans!!! Hahahahaha......
Darren
I watch your videos all time in Naknek Alaska
Can you tell me where you buy your jumper cables for your amplifiers and Radios
Joe KA2ZSD
Thank u
Nice down earth video
Goto Gigaparts and order the Messi and Palonni Ultraflex 7. Those are what I'm using now.
It seems like Icom makes it happen...IC7300 with VHF/UHF, 100W and tons of connection features. 73 de DL8YF
Looks like it’s to big for a nice hf, vhf, uhf all mode mobile rig to replace the 7100
The swapmeet is always rain and mud.
I know. I almost slipped in the muddy grass.
Will the flex have the diversity receive like the Anan?
True Diversity Reception as it states on their brochure.
It is not the rig Icom needs to make: A 100 W mobile HF rig!
Flex no have 8 RX radio :(
ICOM has their head up their butt. Circuit boards..... I smell a Ray idea....Long live Yaesu and Kenwood!!
i gotta laugh at the Icom plexiglass display. sure, there is lots of interest in looking at the parts of this new SDR radio, but at (probably) $4k+ who is going to want to plunk that down? stick with yaesu...at least you know what you are getting.
starting at 2:28 hey dude instead of being a non movable wall and being a jerk you've heard the speel now get out of the way and let others see instead of giving the guy trying to video the evil eye and standing there playing on your phone.
Lol
