My sister shared this video with me. We're well familiar with this place and have watched it deteriorate over the years. Our parents, who are no longer with us, married in January of 1951 and this is where they honeymooned. Back in the day, it was probably a nice enough place. I've never thought of it as creepy, though I can see why someone else might. I just get a feeling of sadness whenever we pass by.
I just watched something in your area and it was mentioned that in the spring Easter Lillies will often come up where an old foundation was. He was showing examples out in the forest, sure enough, growing in a perfect square!
I thought of Bonnie and Clyde too. What cute little piece of history. Things were a lot simpler back then. I wish someone would by the old place and rebuilt it for camping and fishing.
Thank ya'll, I've been fascinated with these older roadside motel courts all around VA, especially on 33 and 11. There's a nice one right near Elkton, VA, when you get over the mountain from Greene County. They even built a small water park there. If you drive over on 33 in the summers, the place is packed with families. Some other ones along route 11 down towards Staunton and Lexington, have some super sketchy looking places that seem to have almost permanent residents there. Love your channel and your travels!
I remember in the 1960’s on a family road trip out west one of our motel rooms costed only 18.00 for the night. My mom was happy about the price because most motels were running 26.00 to 28.00 a night. That picture hanging in the window was the creepiest part of this video. 😬 Thanks for the tour. Love you both!
The National Highway (US 40) through Ohio is a good place to find tourist cabins along the roadside. Some are now just storage, some crumbling in decay, but all represent valuable Historical perspectives.
There was one near Lucketts, VA that scared me a lot. It might be still there. The ghosts never sleeps and hide in mysterious places. There was also the lady who lived back up in the woods and only wore black. She scared the heck out of me. We ran and she hollered, "Come Back". We did and she was the nicest ole lady ever. Or was she a ghost?
I remember when I was around 13, I watched THE BIRDS on TV and I thought it was so scary. I saw clips of it again recently and thought, this is SO LAME! Kids play compared to the horrible things they show today.
I grew up in the 60’s next to one of these, They were called Clark’s cabins on a state hwy in Ocala Fl. The owners lived in the store. There was a row of one bedrooms and individual two bedroom cottages. They were about 2 miles outside of town.
Y’all should really check out the mountains and communities in North Georgia. From Fort Mountain in the west to Tallulah gorge in the east and everywhere between. There is a lot to keep y’all busy.
'Motor Courts' lined US Rt 11 and US Rt 30 back when. Wondering when you'd discover that connecting door to garage. Been in those type buildings loooong ago.
I would imagine in its heyday this place was really profitable for the original owners ashame to see the current condition of it now there's a similar place in Bedford county pa off us 30 that's still in business with a new owner that totally refurbished the little cottages and does quite well during vacation season!
I like to document old motels and tourist cabins with my camera, among other things of course. We have an old set of tourist cabins out US 40. The last time I went to see them they were in pretty decent shape. I enjoyed this. Thanks.
Nothing bad language or what you said was nothing compared to another channel I watch. They litterly say Everything and do everything on here. It crazy , so I think you guys are good.
Thank you Melody for braving the Appalachia cold so we all can have the latest upload . Always interesting and often thought provoking. Thank you to the both of you . Greetings from Derbyshire, England.
Love this episode!!! Great idea!!! I must say again that you two sweet people visit the most unique and interesting places. Now, there are the remains of a motor court near Lewsiburg, WV off of Rt. 60. Many years ago, perhaps the late 1960s, I spent the night in one of the cabins. Thank you for this delightful pieces of history.
That was pretty neat Too bad it's fallen to rack and ruin. As for Psycho, on o the best movies ever made. I still think it's among the top 10 scariest even though it was made in 1960. My brother went to see it when it was new. Never forget it. To this day the shower scene is hard to watch.
Just wanted to say that I agree with y’all regarding SWUB videos on The Whittaker’s. Yes, I watched it. Yes, it was compelling. But I cannot help but feeling like I was complicit in some non consensual voyeuristic exploitation. I just cannot see any way he can honestly say that those interactions, morally speaking, were consensual. The original cop who led Mark to them, should be ashamed of himself.
I bet in its heyday, it was a great place to stay! I tk it would be neat to buy the place, rebuild it w/ some modern amenities (like internet) and market it as an 'nostalgic lodging experience'.
Enjoyed this ! That would definitely be a great place to film a horror movie! I love exploring old places . Thank you guys . Stay warm , stay safe. God bless y'all...🙏❤️
You should of spent the night if you could find a bed looks pretty stripped! Definitely had to be a 1930s and 30s garage way to narrow for any later and $18 dollars a night back then had to be for the entertainment along with the nights rest! Back in prohibition $18 was a weeks wages for many! This was a time when working class made a dollar a day so them ladies must of been higher class ladies right?
It was pretty common that once the heyday of such places had passed, they became "NoTell, Motels," where people who were having affairs or a guy hooking up with a hooker, came to have their trysts. The ones that are still around have tended to become the last resort for less well off folks to make them their homes. There is one of those sort of places not far from where I live down here in Florida off US 301 in Wildwood, Fla. Safe travels, ya'all.
You know those cabins could be renovated by someone who is wealthy and made into home for the homeless veterans or homeless. They would be like a tiny home.
Cool video you both. As a sideline (joke)....just imagine how many children were conceived in those eloquent "travel courts"....... :) You know what would be real cool Meolody?....Upom entering one of those abandoned 'travel courts', some old dude around my age of 63 would say..."what you young folks expect to find here eh?".......LOL You both bring a fun end to a hectic day at work. I just love your videos.
Excellent video! Very informative

Thanks guys !! I like this stuff and your tours...
My parents came back from GA in the 90s and we stayed there for a short period. The owner who lived in the house used to make me breakfast .

I passed it often when I worked in the area.

It reminds me of Elkmont before the wildfire.
wow your showing my age i grew up with SINCLAIR gas stations
Theres is a small fortune of lumber and vintage hardware
That really does look kind of like a grave!
'Motor Courts' lined US Rt 11 and US Rt 30 back when.
Wondering when you'd discover that connecting door to garage.
Been in those type buildings loooong ago.
There were two motor courts here in Gainesville, Virginia and with developments taking over Prince William County those were demolished.
That place must be eerie at night
Interesting place, thank you Shane and Melody. It's so cool you document these places before they're gone.
Thank you, Robin! - Melody

That's seriously to bad.
WOW!!! Park the car inside and get to your room right beside the your car.
Loved this video, nice and spooky! I love Appalachia and it's music and legends, especially since I have lots of ancestors from the area.
I live near Bristol and didn’t know about this! Where exactly is it??
Wow😊
Nothing bad language or what you said was nothing compared to another channel I watch. They litterly say Everything and do everything on here. It crazy , so I think you guys are good.
Very Creepy. It is amazing to me to see how far the Motel business has changed. Another reminder of the simpler life of the past.Stay Safe.

Do you think $18.00 was the hourly rate? 🤦🏼♀️
If these cabins could talk.....
I think I drove past there when I came out to check out houses back in the beginning of December. Ended buying a place in North Tazewell.
You 2 cracked me up with this Video! Lmao
Lol thank you!
I bet in its heyday, it was a great place to stay! I tk it would be neat to buy the place, rebuild it w/ some modern amenities (like internet) and market it as an 'nostalgic lodging experience'.
That would’ve been really cool. I think it’d take a lot of money at this point. I’d love to run something like that though! - Melody
Enjoyed this ! That would definitely be a great place to film a horror movie! I love exploring old places . Thank you guys . Stay warm , stay safe. God bless y'all...🙏❤️
Wow! So interesting!
Thank you!
Where is this place?

The only thing missing is the “No Vacancy” sign 👻 great video!
Too small? Come on guys! Bigger than a backseat! And a bathroom to boot! I'm just sayin'.😂
Perfect location to film, Blair Witch III

Definitely would be creepy at night.
There's alot different words he could of used lol
Melody, or Melanie?
Are y'all folks accents WV, or other Southern?
It is Melody. We are both from the southwestern area of Virginia.
@@realappalachia I love the sound, particularly Melody's. It's melodic! 😁!
The word "creepy" is overused, extend your vocabulary.
Melanie is so cute how she says "Yooooounited States." ha ha ha ha.
