Thank you Alexander i had a ruff day and i open TH-cam to try in decompress and i see a new video from you it put a smile on my face your videos always makes me feel good so thank you .
I wanted to mention two things about electrical - I always end up getting at least one spare outlet on a free wall in bathroom spaces besides the ones beside the sinks - there's always more to plug in and it's a pain to run it to the sink-side outlets. Also, you may be using basement storage for a freezer or other appliances that need outlets, plus make sure the space will be well lit since it has no windows with any natural light coming in. Looking great, and these final adjustments are exciting to see since insulation and drywall are next!! 🎉
Yep, cold water spigots on all 4 exterior walls, plus hot & cold in the garage would be prudent. It's sich a pain to drag around hoses from only front and back spigots. I haven't heard him mention a work sink in the garage, just in the laundry, but I'm hoping one is in the plans.
Add an extra instead of taking out the current one. It gives you options. Never remove outlets in the wall. It is always better to have more instead of less.
If I remember was building my dream house I would put 3 outlets on every wall! And make sure some of them were the ones with USB charging ports built in! 😳😉😁
The house looks great, but you need at least 2 to 3 times as many outlets as you have. You can never have enough outlets, and they are a pain to add in later. Also you need 2 more 220v outlets in the garage, 1 for a compressor and 1 for a welder. Good luck.

Alex, just a quick suggestion, you may want to make sure you get video of all your walls before insulation is installed. As the person who does all the Christmas decorating in our house, I recommend a plug under every window! And just for convenience, a plug on both sided of the beds and any sofas for lamps, etc...
To add much greater strength to the posts in the garage that is protecting the support, you should weld them together so that if struck you would have to tear both loose from the floor instead of just one. Twice the strength and support for a couple of small pieces of flat iron.

I agree! I wish i had outlets inside my shelves and cabinets. Under cabinet low voltage lighting could be run much more easily. Also it’s great in the living room to hide a printer behind an cabinet, and other communal officey supplies if the office is a trek upstairs. Shelves might be nice for a record player! Also great when holiday decorating.

Extra sockets are always a good idea even in a cupboard. Make sure to have a socket under the sink for the garbage disposal. A door under the staircase for storage space.
@Pac Ric Why is that? I live in Chicago in an almost 100 year old condo and im having my kitchen redone and not putting a disposal back in, because I just think the old pipes dont need more stuff trying to clog them up.
No future Central Vac rough-ins? Did they rough in the overhead garage door outlets? If you are thinking about having 240 Vac for car lifts, I would put the outlets in the ceiling above your posts that will have the hydraulic power units. If you are drywalling the garage at the build stage as part of the house build, before you insulate have them run water and a drain tie-in out to the garage for a future sink and maybe think about air lines in the walls, possible with gas line black pipe. This cleans up your walls. Your garage is huge, so having air tie-ins all around is nice. Maybe run the airlines in the ceiling for retractable hose reels.
Hello Alexander! I loved watching you go through all the rooms. Love how you arranged the plugs that will be perfect! I love that you switched the chandelier and pot lights.
For a new-build you got VERY few complaints so far, I tell you. Almost sounds like you were a bit disappointed for some of the things they missed or did wrong. You are, so far, SO SO SO lucky to have a great contractor. Don’t forget that. ❤️
The open feel of your new home is awesome. I hope you are willing to show the completely furnished house later too. I think we're all living towards that big reveal point :) Although every visit is a big reveal :) I love seeing this structure turn into an actual home. And Drupad is awesome. Has a good grasp of where to go slow. I think you could not really have known where the tv should go, not before actually being IN the house. Jasons room has gorgeous views, and Stephens basement is probably gonna be great too. I wonder how Abigail feels about the new house?
You also want to have electrical plugs in the middle of a staircase oh, it just makes it easier for vacuuming... where you know you're going to have large pieces of furniture, you put the plugs up high , then you don't have to crawl around on the floor... you will never have enough plugs in that kitchen area oh, so you want to have 4 to 6 plugs two or three gang, most kitchen appliances have very short plugs , so people aren't running extension... cords... for refrigerators, and many stove / oven units, it's good to have them on a second separate circuit... most gas stoves have igniters , some of them may have convection ovens , some of them maybe a combination of electric & gas.... Having niches with an electrical plug can be really handy for things that you need to charge, or basic old fashioned wall phones... which don't necessarily need electricity to actually function... you want to have as many exterior hose bibs as possible so you're not dragging around Long hoses... with shut offs if they're extending into a yard area, just in case things freeze... you met up and up planting a bunch of fruit trees that need a drip line during hot summer months... or a large Garden or a kitchen Garden come away from the house , do you really want to drag hoses... insulation is one of the cheapest ways to make your house energy efficient , it will pay for itself in just no time... there's a big difference having conditioned and unconditioned spaces... for heat loss and or warm temperatures.. you do have a great amount of windows that are going to give you lots of natural sunlight..... also water shut-off throughout the system so that you don't have to shut down the entire house and have no water if you have to work on a plumbing line... I have a shut off between my water meter, and the house shut off oh, so I still have water available even if I have to shut down the entire house, ....LAXVESPA-LOSANGELES..
Following along with you and Drewpad looking at plugs. You may need to add a plug in the basement storage area for a dehumidifier in the summer. Melissa may need another set of plugs on her side of the sink in your bathroom, too.
Considering installing more electrical outlets in your basement, because it’s cheaper to install it now than later, and you will need them later. My experience living in almost 100 year house, with almost no electrical outlets and all placed by the doors, because all peoples needs a outlet by the doors! Thank you for sharing your amazing journey with us. God bless you and your family.
The 2nd switch in Jason's room might be for one of the outlets. I would put data cabling in each hallway and also run 1 to the attic space. You could put a wireless router up there and it'll cover well.
So much lovely sunshine coming into the house! We are down to just a few hours of light here in Fairbanks and the sun isn't making it over the trees and into my house from now until end of January. Enjoyed the walk through.
Alex!!! We renovated about 6 years ago and put at least 2 plugs on EVERY wall. Even more in the kitchen, including pop up plugs in the centre island. We NEVER regretted it. It provides tremendous flexibility. As time goes on we have more and more "stuff" to plug in or charge up and you can never have enough plugs. Don't move the TV aerial plug, just put in another on the other wall. that way if you want to move the TV you don't have to have a cable around the wall on the floor. We wired the house for CAT 6 network cable with two outlets in every room all linking back to a switch, patch panel and Router in the hall closet. - so power plugs in there too! Remember wired ethernet is MUCH faster than wireless. And we also put in a wireless repeater to ensure everywhere in the house is covered by wireless. Its SO EASY to spend the time adding it now before drywall goes up, its MUCH harder to do after.
based on experience, add some network wiring for some security cameras at the perimeter of the house. costs a hair more now but saves thousands in the future and will look much nicer than installed afterwards.
Your home is going to be beautiful. Thank you for sharing your family's excitement. One thing we added which we love is strategically placed USB outlets. We also had each room that would have a TV wired high and low for two options of placement, wall art can be placed over top of connection if you choose not to put TV on wall. Dimmer switches were also put on every light switch. Good luck on the auction sale today.
At 8:35 outlets would be useful inside built-in cases and shelves for under-shelf lighting, cable/Wifi/Home Security boxes. Above counter outlets better for lamps, clocks, diffusers, radios. BUT if your cabinets are freestanding, a lower outlet is better for hiding wires. Make sure you have GFI outlets and switches in the kitchen, all bathrooms and the garage. Will you have a second full size refrigerator or freezer in the basement or garage. Make sure each is on its own 20 amp circuit. Make sure you have a 20 amp circuit for every large machine you have in the garage. You will need power to an electric fence if you want to keep deer out of your veggie garden, light for a chicken coop, etc. Put all ceiling lights and sconces and bathroom lights on dimmers. Your family will thank you on every 3 am pit stop. Make sure you have power to light your address at your entrance gate. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Should an exterminator remove the hornets nest during cold weather? 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
Suggestions: 1. Keep the wiring for the upstairs TV and add wiring on the other wall. This will give you options in the future to either add a second screen or to move the TV. 2. Keep the TV wiring downstairs (next to the fireplace) to keep options open for the future. 3. Have LED lighting on the stairs for beauty, safety and to keep from having to fully light the stairs at night. 4. Plan for an appliance garage in the kitchen with enough outlets wired, even if you cover them initially. 5. As others have pointed out, install more outlets. You can never have too many! 6. Do you have data wiring in all the rooms (bedrooms at least)? 7. Add infrastructure for a central vacuum. My sister ended up loving the central vacuum that came with a purchased house. Be sure there are enough connections that are easily accessible and not obvious to the eye, such as close to the floor. Question: Why not have the outlets closer to the floor and horizontal? Makes the outlets less intrusive for sightlines and furniture placement. Several family members opted for such outlet positioning and remained very pleased with the decision even after 20-40 years.
Hey, just a quick note, Make sure when they have to cut that concrete out for the shower drain, it doesn't fill the drain with scraps of concrete. You will have constant plumbing issues. Our new build had a similar issue. You'd of thought they swept the concrete dust and pieces into the drain pipe... Otherwise lookin great! Like the chandelier idea!
Good point. Scraps of concrete and concrete dust in a shower drain could cause a concrete plug that will require a jackhammer to remove (after the shower is removed, of course). BTW, perhaps it is a matter of semantics, but I did not see the framing for pocket doors in the upstairs bathroom. They are usually recessed into a thickened wall with framing on both sides of the pocket. The current rage is what I have heard termed "barn doors," which slide along a track that is exposed on one side. Are they what Alex is having put in?
My first husband and i built our home years ago and when it came down to outlets we put more in than what most people would but we never regretted it. It was so nice to not have to figure out where to put things. We had always rented and would have to put lamps and such where outlets were not where we wanted them. I really liked it. Kitchen had 4 outlets together and the top ran off a diferent breaker than the bottom. If i remember we had 6 outlets in the kitchen and it was not a large kitchen. 6 on top and 6 on bottom. Was great. Back then our kitchens were small.
Your house looks awesome and what beautiful surroundings, reminds me of a story book illustration with all the snow💜. Yes I am from Australia and never see snow it looks beautiful🇦🇺
I really enjoy your content. No matter what you’re filming I can watch any type of vids on your channel. Sorry to read that ppl are being nasty to you on Facebook. Thinking you shouldn’t be able to build a home for your family, or that you shouldn’t have ppl running your Facebook etc. Smh. That’s awful how rude and ignorant some people are, them and their negativity is what we don’t need on this channel anyhow. Maybe time to just start blocking them or muting them. Keep up the great work Alex, happy picking. 🤟🏼👌🏼🥳🤩😎
No house build goes without problems, your build is going great so far with minimal problems. I had a friend who had a nightmare of a house build, every day there was a new problem. Electrical boxes are tricky to place, you really need to know where you want your stuff. But hey this is going great! DPAD is doing a wonderful job. You are just a few months away from a great new home!
Alex you should also consider some power/data hookups higher on the wall just in case you decide to wall mount your TV. If you aren't sure about your TV location you might want to consider doing that anyway even if you hide them behind drywall or a blanking plate so they can be hooked up later.
Very true..I have a plug outlet right above my headboard in my bedroom next to the wall..It's very convenient and easy to get to..it's where I charge my phone at night...
YOU & Melissa ARE Amazing People. You are a fabulous example of gracious kindness. The people you connect with all have a common thread and we have witnessed their own strength and love expressed because YOU bring that out in people. I hope you know you guys are amazing parents and your children will continue your heart, sharing you to those they touch. I can be a negative, petty, picky person. I promise you, your sharing your Self has given me more skills to improve my own footprint. Only good can come from your good. You deserve every comfort YOU EARN. Love Light Peace
It's been super interesting watching this process, Alex. I hope to do this myself someday so it's given me a lot to think about for when the time comes!
My great-grandmother (from Rossway, Nova Scotia, used to say, " The best fertilizer for the farm, is the footsteps of the farmer, everywhere!" yup, still good to follow-up and walk thru projects frequently!
An outdoor hose spigot on each side of the house is helpful. An outdoor electrical outlet on each side of the house is helpful as well. I have thanked my husband for adding that to our home build each time I have used them.
I suppose a tap just inside the garage would protect it - but hasn’t he had garage floor specially made to slope to a drain to wash cars etc inside ? So he must have access to water but also a sink in the garage would be v useful
Take the number of plugs you think you need and double it! I have 7 around my kitchen worktop & its definitely not enough. Great news on getting 2nd hand chairs
Yes, yes, yes! The more, the better. Having to juggle furniture to reach a plug is just plain hateful, especially as we get older. Also, nice to have plugs at waist high or just under window sill. Lamp cords are getting shorter these days. 😂😂😂😂🧓🤔
@@tabathathecat249 I could nearly double what I have and just have enough so I really feel for you with only 4. It's having them in a useful place too I have 4 in the crook of my kitchen where the kettle, toaster & coffee machine are, it's also closest to my oil tank so has my guage receiver plugged in there poof all gone, but that's the worktop space where I use my blender/mixer/slow cooker when they come out of the cupboard so immediately something has to get pulled out.
Wow, I had the exact same RC car in the 80's, although completely black. I loved that thing. My parents threw it away while I was doing my mandatory military service.
Suggest putting an outlet near doorways, SO much easier to plug in the vacuum, I requested that for my remodeled office. Hard to plug it in when outlets are behind furniture.
You house is moving along so fast. My house was completed in under 90 days, but is only 2600 sq feet. Building codes may dictate that each wall has to have an outlet, at least that was true when my house was built in Ohio. It's good to walk the build as much as you can. You are good with details. I found problems where windows didn't open, closets built where it was to be an open loft, under the stairs built in when I wanted it open for storage, a wall above the fireplace that was not plumb. Lots of things a supervisor should have found if he was doing his job. Your guy seems great.
Lots of advice below but I would think that is one reason that you are showing us around 😀 Agree you can never have too many outlets and don't forget the USB sockets on the plugs like I did!😒 I would think you've already thought about the hose hook up for the garden and washing cars!!😎 So exciting ... can't wait to see it furnished and lived in - if you allow us to 💜👀💜
I can see you're going to have to keep right after that contractor, it's really his fault the wall in basement was not removed. We built our own house so no mis-steps and I'm happy for that. We put in LOTS of outlets in each room and it surely came in handy! God Bless you and hope house turns out well with no problems!
You should put outlets in your storage area. May want to put a freezer in, might want to convert to a work space, studio in the future. Cheap to do now.
I know you're thinking that some of the suggestions in the comments will be pricey & add to your building costs. However adding things later always costs more.
wow....the changes you made are perfect...especially moving the chandelier...you look a little tired,,,it can be stressful building a new house, it is looking amazing....take it easy on yourself and know with new builds mistakes happen, and it is ok to make mistakes, nothing is ever perfect and it is ok if it isnt perfect .... the house is going to be beautiful.
Thankyou Alex ! I will never buy a new house... If you where not there as often as you are..i cant imagine how much more it would have been. And how many things they screwed up, on your plans.. Hope everything goes smoothly !!
Alex regarding your basement "rumpus room" area. In addition to more plus you might also want to consider what you might be planning on using that for. Like if you want to make it kind of a bit of a home theater room, power/data hookups up on the walls/ceiling for installing a TV/projector would be best to go in now. Not to mention wires run for common speaker locations like the 4 corners might be a good thing. Even if you don't use them now having them ready in the walls just in case makes a lot of sense. Especially given the cost to run that stuff after the walls are all closed up. The cost of a few rolls of wire now will save significant money in the future.
It’s inspirational to see all the dreams coming together. Don’t get to caught up in the negative comments. It’s the holidays and some people tend to be a little extra opinionated especially towards people who are check things off the bucket list.
Still, one of the cleanest builds I've ever seen. There isn't any mess anywhere, not even any wood shavings. Drupad and his crew are amazeballs 🥰👍👏🇦🇺

And for a spare fridge
For sure some plugs in the storage area for things that need to be constantly charged, like dust busters.
Not much need for a dehumidifier where he is in Alberta. I think they are having their deep freeze in the pantry coming in from the garage.
I really like when you takes us to the new house, I’m excited for you all. Good idea on your changes.
Love this channel, always interesting. Takes me back to when I built my own 🏠 house 👍
Such an interesting house. Nothing cookie cutter about it. It’s going to be gorgeous!
The 2nd switch in Jason's room might be for one of the outlets.
I would put data cabling in each hallway and also run 1 to the attic space. You could put a wireless router up there and it'll cover well.
Yes, pull down attic stairs with a light and switch so it’s easy for anyone to go reset that wifi.
Fan
Such a well deserved family home ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You KNOW Melissa is still going to do her makeup in the laundry room anyway, but it's nice she has the extra space!
That garage is gonna be awesome! Can't wait to see it and the rest of the finished house!
Wall lights are always good to have too, they give a lovely ambience to a roomm.
based on experience, add some network wiring for some security cameras at the perimeter of the house. costs a hair more now but saves thousands in the future and will look much nicer than installed afterwards.

Should an exterminator remove the hornets nest during cold weather?

Hello Alex. from Altoona,Pennsylvania .when spring comes ,my husband and I hope to come see you and your store.
Nice, make it like late spring like May, June 4 nice weather and more blossoms on trees, etc.
Friends with Larry King? :)
Please dont forget plug outlets all around the outside. Makes it so much easier to decorate for the holidays!!!
Suggestions:
Oh it's so exciting watching the house progress...
Hello, I love your channel. Helpful hint: keep cable plug on multiple walks for options to move tv. Change is always possible.
You can never have to many plug outlets in the kitchen above the counter..I wish I had more..
So true!
Agreed. I was going to comment about this. We added so many more outlets at counter height when we gutted and remodeled our kitchen a dozen years ago.
Yes!
Your house looks awesome and what beautiful surroundings, reminds me of a story book illustration with all the snow💜. Yes I am from Australia and never see snow it looks beautiful🇦🇺
Dhrupad has such a genuine and sweet smile… you could not have gotten a better contractor…☺️
You are a very generous person, Alex. The rewards are coming in abundance.
House is looking great .. Congrats it is coming together great... You gotta love it when " A Plan COMES TOGETHER " 😁😁👍👍 Cheers from Ontario Canada!
Good video Mr. The house is looking good. Thae care amd stay warm.
Excellent catches and changes on the walk thorough. This is very exciting to watch.
Your family home is looking fantastic 😍
Originally being from New Jersey, that was on of the most Polite walkthroughs I have ever seen. LoL
Makes me think of “Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House”. 🙂
😁 Love that movie.
Great idea
Or hang something else over it.
Great tip!!!
Love seeing your home come together. Hope you show a fire going in that fireplace when all is done.
Great information for others to hear.
You are working towards a stunning home! 😊❤️🇨🇦🎶
I am so pleased you found preloved chairs for your sitting area. My whole flat is finished with preloved items, apart from my bed.
It’s a really nice family plan. Very cozy and laid out usefully
My great-grandmother (from Rossway, Nova Scotia, used to say, " The best fertilizer for the farm, is the footsteps of the farmer, everywhere!" yup, still good to follow-up and walk thru projects frequently!
House is going to be perfect. So happy 😊 for you and your family.
An outdoor hose spigot on each side of the house is helpful. An outdoor electrical outlet on each side of the house is helpful as well. I have thanked my husband for adding that to our home build each time I have used them.
Alex, are you getting in an outside tap somewhere? Very useful when you or Melissa are gardening.
Gardening, car/cycle washing, dog washing, etc.
is that practical in such a cold climate? Even in the UK I worry my outside tap will freeze/ burst every year even with a cover on it!
I suppose a tap just inside the garage would protect it - but hasn’t he had garage floor specially made to slope to a drain to wash cars etc inside ? So he must have access to water but also a sink in the garage would be v useful
@@squidge125 I got an outlet and I’m in Sweden. Would never NOT have one. I drain the tap every fall to avoid freezing it to pieces. Very easy. 😊👍
@@squidge125 Outside taps are frostproof type. I guess that is something you don't see in the UK.
Take the number of plugs you think you need and double it! I have 7 around my kitchen worktop & its definitely not enough. Great news on getting 2nd hand chairs
I have two covered up by the fridge.
Yes, yes, yes! The more, the better. Having to juggle furniture to reach a plug is just plain hateful, especially as we get older. Also, nice to have plugs at waist high or just under window sill. Lamp cords are getting shorter these days. 😂😂😂😂🧓🤔
i have same problem, I have only 4 outlets and it just isnt enough, I wish I had 6 more outlets, and that still wouldnt be enough....
@@outoftheburrough my four in the corner, really difficult to reach too.
Lots of advice below but I would think that is one reason that you are showing us around 😀
Agree you can never have too many outlets and don't forget the USB sockets on the plugs like I did!😒
I would think you've already thought about the hose hook up for the garden and washing cars!!😎
So exciting ... can't wait to see it furnished and lived in - if you allow us to 💜👀💜
I can see you're going to have to keep right after that contractor, it's really his fault the wall in basement was not removed. We built our own house so no mis-steps and I'm happy for that. We put in LOTS of outlets in each room and it surely came in handy! God Bless you and hope house turns out well with no problems!
Making great advances. Moving along very fast. Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤
So true about the tv! That's the way my condo is set up. ☹ only 1 spot for tv across from wall of patio doors facing west.
You should put outlets in your storage area. May want to put a freezer in, might want to convert to a work space, studio in the future. Cheap to do now.
I know you're thinking that some of the suggestions in the comments will be pricey & add to your building costs. However adding things later always costs more.
I would to see how the directional drilling is done, I think that would be quite interesting. The house is coming along quite nicely.
wow....the changes you made are perfect...especially moving the chandelier...you look a little tired,,,it can be stressful building a new house, it is looking amazing....take it easy on yourself and know with new builds mistakes happen, and it is ok to make mistakes, nothing is ever perfect and it is ok if it isnt perfect .... the house is going to be beautiful.
House is looking wonderful. X
Exactly what I was thinking. Great ideas.
It’s inspirational to see all the dreams coming together. Don’t get to caught up in the negative comments. It’s the holidays and some people tend to be a little extra opinionated especially towards people who are check things off the bucket list.
This must be so exciting for you. Congratulations Alex. Thanks for the video!😁✌
You are a smart dude, you know exactly what you're looking at with the new build.
It's going to be such a lovely home. Well done for catching all the changes that needed to be made.
