- In this video I will be building off my discussion from PART 1 and showing you guys how to apply certain feels and concepts in a full swing that will allow you to have more forward shaft lean at impact.

this is THE best shaft lean tutorial ive watched on youtube
Best instruction of shaft lean ever!
Wow two wonderful videos! Full of really great insight and drills for a very complicated golfing concept. Thank you so much. God bless you. 👍🙏
Great video! Some comments:
1. Emphasize the trailing arm's importance at P6 on the downswing. The trailing elbow is often overlooked, leading to 'outside' club head position at P6, causing out-to-in swing. Out of sight, out of mind!
2. Explicitly address the two key 'release' points:
a. Actual release point around P6 - timing crucial to avoid casting.
b. Arms 'flipping over' at P8(a) - blocking leads to loss of distance, balance, ...
3. Explain what is happening to the club face during downswing, impact, and follow-through:
- Direction and loft changes (de-lofting), especially at impact.
A 'Part 3' could dive deeper into these details especially with a behind the swing view.
Thanks again!
I have tried many ways to increase my shaft lean . I am a plus 2 handicap and i have to say your technique is the best and easiest Thank u
Great video.
Superb demonstration… thank you 👏
Very interesting drills look forward to trying them out
Great video the drill reminds me of the one where you put an alignment stick along the shaft and make sure it doesn’t hit your ribs through impact, do we want a similar feeling with the driver but with the club bottoming out right before the ball?
Best golf tutorial I’ve ever seen
Thanks for doing this topic!
Thank you I really enjoy your videos
Brilliant.
Very good explanation - Just do it it works!!!! Thanks again Jonathan
Great video and explanation! Thank you!
Hallelujah....got it tks... Keep teaching
That's all dynamic and just a moment in time.
Another good video with careful explanation. I spent some time thinking about "What the club does" and it helped me. In other words, if I remove the golfer that is making the swing, what is the club doing? I'd love to see/hear your thoughts on this.
thanks a lot for your videos!
looks very loose in the wrists creating angles using momentum.
for a practice shot i can do that. in real swing i feel like i can combine lose wrists with the needed grip-pressure.
any advice for that?
Best instruction on the net
Fantastic, thanks
Hey Jon, do you think ball position changes for a right handed left eye dominant player compared to a right handed right eye dominant player? I’m the former and feel I need to play everything up in the stance. Would you consider this normal? If I don’t play it forward, I tend to get too much shaft lean, low ball flight, and a stuck feeling, especially with driver. Just wanted to see your opinion on this.
Thanks
Youre a good teacher. Come to michigan one day and golf. I will pay
😮
The big question is …
Is this (narrowing if the arc and add’l wrist hinge) INTENTIONAL? (that is, should we focus on doing that?)
… OR, is this cocking of the wrist a natural result on the weight of the clubhead dropping?
Or, better said, do the hands control (force) this movement? (Does the grip tighten in the downswing?) Or do the hands hold the club loosely throughout the swing and ALLOW the weight of the clubhead to fall into “the slot”?
I love the idea of the butt of the clubhead moving away from the wrist, and I’m going to focus on that tomorrow when I play ☝🏻
One more thing …
Does this hold true for woods (and DRIVER) as well as with irons?
As always, good stuff … very detailed. 👍🏻
Keep up the good work 👊🏻
1. It should be with the weight of the club and not so much and intentional holding of wrist angles.
2. I wouldnt say your grip gets tighter but if done correctly you should feel pressure from the grip into your hands that you can use to throw the club head

Can you describe “the weight of the club” in more detail (perhaps in a video)
I think most of us mere mortals feel the handle in the hands, but don’t really know about the weight of the club
… and/or if we “throw the weight”, may be the primary cause of “flipping”. Thus I think in order to get forward shaft lean that all instructors promote, we tend to “hold the wrist angles”.
It would be great to get more clarity on this ☝🏻
Great stuff as always 👊🏻
Keep up the good work
Thanks!
Thank you 🙏
effortless flowing motion
Im actually very confused about when do you release the angle in the downswing. Because i tend to keep the angle even after i finish the downswing and leads to thinning the ball. But when i ‘feel’ like i release right after the downswing, it feels perfect but im afraid it will be too early
I feel like I release it right from the top freely with no pause but its that you start the butt end moving down and forward while the club is still cocking the wrists backward just like the chipping drill in part 1 video. Try taking the club back past parallel to about shoulder height and allowing the wrists to cock, then hold your arms up and just let your wrists uncock using no muscle just let the club uncock early like a casting motion before the clubhead even reaches your rear leg. That's the feeling you want but instead like the chipping drill you are starting the butt end forward while the wrists are still cocking backward and also while you are shifting your weight forward. As long as you have that feel that the butt end is moving forward as the clubhead is still moving backward it is almost impossible to release to early and if you have a free swinging release without muscling it you can have a smooth swing with good club head speed and good impact with forward shaft lean.
Are your arms and hands relaxed throughout the swing? When I keep my arms and hands relaxed, I early release. The only way for me to prevent an early release is to consciously keep my left wrist flat and my right wrist bent throughout the downswing. It feels as if they never release but on video they definitely release a little/lose their angle. I'm assuming it's an extreme compensation that I have to make to prevent early release.
my wrists are definitely not tight through impact
I get the most consistent shaft lean and impact when I lock out my left arm. It just takes so much unnecessary movement out of the equation
Water couldnt be more fluid then that swing...unreal...how am i ever gonna get that as an overweight 55 year old..😅 but im sure gonna try...
