Dale I just got some lures from ya before you left for your trip and I just want to say I have heard from alot of people who say you cant catch beaver without drowning and conibears and I knew that could not be the case because back in the day they didn't have drowning rods or conibears. Im trapping where the water isn't deep enough to drown them. You are the only one I've found on you tube so far that is teaching that you dont have to drown them to catch them. I'm learning alot from your videos and I wish I grew up next door to you because you are a wealth of trapping knowledge.
Long chains/cables are the key, if they have room to move around they'll find a spot they feel safe and wait, if they can't get to a safe/comfortable spot, they'll wring those front feet off. A back foot catch isn't going anywhere regardless
I don't care if he tells you that that's the way to do it that's not the way to do it you just said it yourself that this is the only guy saying that you can catch him by the front foot and you don't need to drown them and they'll still be there for you and he's not being honest with you it's like he's wanting to set you up for failure is what I believe because I've trapped my whole life and no beaver will not be sitting there waiting for you if you don't drown them if you catch them by the front foot next time you see a beaver or get a beaver caught take your hand grab the front foot and twist it and you'll see that you can snap a beaver's front foot off with one hand without hardly any effort at all so you tell me that it gets in a trap and it's not going to be jumping around and spinning and twisting and trying to get away yes they are they fight with all their power and they twist their front leg off very easily and you'll have a lot of front feet in your traps if you target the front foot if you don't drown them your best off drowning them and putting a weight like a window weight right on the Trap so you got to wait pulling the Trap down to so when you catch him he can't just sit extend it up to the top of the water he's constantly got a weight pulling him back down and he'll drown a lot quicker if you put a weight on the Trap itself I actually use an easy steak at the bank with a sliding lock on my trap on the cable and put a weight heavyweight on the drowning in and throw it out in the deep water and I have a weight on my trap too to constantly pull them down that's a foolproof beautiful technique and I catch a big beaver and they're dead within minutes
A drowned beavers a dead beaver and a dead Beaver can't get out of a trap but a live Beaver non-round did beaver will constantly try away get away out of the Trap
Good seeing you helping trappers out back when I started all trappers we’re tight lipped and not willing to giving any tips plus no computers. Keep up the good work
It's a numbers game Dungeon Master. You have to catch 1,000 now instead of 100. And even then there's no real money in it. I'm just too dumb to do anything else.
Thanks for the tip. I'm not much of a beaver trapper, but I do run into a few areas with them. I definitely will be trying to set out. Thanks for sharing this Dale ! 👍🏻
anybody who doesnt watchyour videos is missing alot of info ive trapped since mid 60s thank you for all good info back in late 70s early 80s you would never seen this good job
Hey Dale you may have mentioned it elsewhere but what is the advantage of not drowning the beaver (if you can). Also thanks for showing and explaining this set I have a spot this will work out great this winter post deer season
You don't spook the other beaver in the colony as bad by not drowning or conibearing them 284Winchester. Plus you have the perfect opportunity for multiple catches by having a live decoy on the bank. And lastly you can release nontarget species like otter after the season closes
284Winchester give me a call or text me at 319-217-0655 and I can send you the list of what I offer that way. Thank you for watching and for your interest in Billingsley Brand Lures we appreciate you
So I have to drown where I am. Does it matter which direction the drowner is pointed? As in upstream or downstream? Wondering if beaver always turn and go with the current if they get caught or will a drowner going upstream work?
Too many variables to answer that Dennis. You have to know your ground. Where you are in south Louisiana, I would suggest 2 inch Pogo stakes. You get a lot of moisture in February so the big washer should hold for you. It's just my thoughts. So far I've not been lucky enough to find any ground to to trap in south Louisiana but I keep looking for a crawfish farmer to let me in. Wish I could help you more.
No Bryce I'm not too concerned about it. As I've stated before it's all in the trap you use. Some are made for front and back foot catches both. Some are designed for back feet only. Thank you for watching
really question you only losing 1 in 100 ?for a front foot catch especial using closed jawed trap like the victor? and for your information a beaver never drowns he suffocates , check it out
You can question it all you like wonaegun or there's always an empty truck seat for you to ride along and witness it any time you want. Thank you for watching

any adverse effects to combining a drowning rod in this set? I need to hide it from a guy who sets 2 traps and checks 12.
No Steven you can use a drowning rod if you prefer to. Thank you for watching
Lmao sets 2 and checks 12. I'm gonna get some good use out of that line.
So I have to drown where I am.
Does it matter which direction the drowner is pointed? As in upstream or downstream? Wondering if beaver always turn and go with the current if they get caught or will a drowner going upstream work?
Mike either put the drowner straight out or angle it down stream
100% new to this. What are using for the lure?
Carl you can use anyone of my beaver lures on this set. I personally like either my Iowa silver or Cypress Breaks.
Great simple set! You’re making it too easy. Which one of your lures would you favor for this set?
Thanks Steve yea its nothing complicated. I like either my Cypress breaks or Iowa silver on this set. Both are curiosity lures
