Great video - very well done! I bought your DVD a long time ago and it's the single best beaver DVD out there. Just plain old common sense, K.I.S.S. methods. Looking forward to more!
One of, if not the best, trapping instruction videos I've ever seen. Thanks for your help! The Meat Trapper sent me over to watch it, well worth the time
Some good advice there Dale! I like conibears in the spring. With some good Castor you can make a Beaver do what you want in the spring. Enjoy your videos!
WOW ! What a video. Great job filming and demonstrating your way of trapping beaver 🦫. That was the best video I ever watched on trapping 🦫 . Enjoyed every second of the video Dale.👍🏻👍🏻
Dale thanks for explaining the type of foothold to use . Now I know why I get some problems with the front foot . You could use quick links instead of the split rings. I use them all the time and fast . Just to give a idea .I use 3/16 quick link.
thanks for the info,,i sure hope the info makes me a better foot hold beaver trapper,,i usually struggle with foot holds..your system sure looks easy enough,, can' t wait to try it!!!thanks again.
Hey Mr. Billingsley, Love your straight forward videos and used this method last spring and I love it! I do have a question. I've heard you say you don't like a dogless trap for beaver, specifically bridger 3s. What's the reason for that? I'm just curious. Thanks again for the videos and education!
Dale first of thanks for the videos ive learned A LOT! Couple of questions. For spring beaver if im only able to check after work sometimes 5 or 6 pm, am i going to have problems holding the beaver alive or in that case is it better to run drowners? My next question is are #3 bridgers a good trap to get started with for beaver? They are about 1/2 the cost of some other beaver traps. I know you said they will work for a front foot catch i was curious if they are ok for back foot caught beaver? Thanks again!
If you're holding them alive for that long I would target a back foot myself. I've held them fine by the front feet until oh say 3-4 in the afternoon and got away with it. As for the #3 bridger on back feet they work fine. Are there better choices? Absolutely. But they will catch and hold just fine. If I personally were to think about investing 8n back foot only traps the only 1s I'd even consider are the bridger 5 longs or coils ( I prefer the longs just cuz they're easier to set for myself ). Or the Duke #5 long or the TS85s. I do not care personally for the MB750s at all. Way too strong in my opinion. Jaws are too low profile to suit me. And the pan has a 50% dead spot. I've not used the Dule 850 yet. If I was to use it I believe you could take the front coils off and still be plenty strong to hold beaver just fine
What size loop do you use on the snare? I've never had any luck catching Beavers with a snare. Maybe this will change my luck. Seems that trap wise Beavers aren't really to scared of snares.
I like about a 9 inch loop positioned about the width of 4 fingers off the ground. I hope this helps some. I'll be doing some more videos on snaring in the near future, so please stay tuned to us. Thank you
I run a 9 inch loop Gene. If you can call or text or message me on Facebook Messenger I can get you a list of everything I offer for baits and lures Gene. 319-217-0655. Thank you for watching and for your interest in Billingsley Brand Lures we appreciate you
Great video Dale! I agree with the number 3’s not working good for beaver. I have a few Bridger 3’s though that are way different just like you said. I believe they’d hold a wolf if I caught one. Lol tight chains my friend
JutnJen Rasmussen. Thank you so much. Yes just watch the jaw height. Im not a fan of low profile jaw traps for anything. That's a big reason you dont see me using 750s.
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 I’ll stick with those 85’s to myself. Again I’m not a fan of dogless just like you but they are great beaver and otter traps hands down
The T85s are fine. Im a huge fan of Bridger 3s on front feet. And no drowning. I do this for 2 reasons really. 1 it allowse to release nontarget catches like otter. #2. Folks tell me it can't be done effectively. I lose 1 out of every 100 beaver to wring off. I can live with those odds
It's not that I don't like dogless traps. I love the old Montgomery dogless. And I like the No B.S. I just dont like the Bridger or the Duke dogless James. 1st off there's not enough space between the bottom of the pan and the top of the frame. The pan bottoms out alot of times and the traps won't fire. Then if you adjust it so it will fire, the pan sets way to high. Even bu laminating the jaws on the Bridger they are still too sharp and cause alot of paw damage.
Thanks Dale. That was like a free update to your beaver DVD. I Have a couple questions. The round jaw Victor 3’s I understand. The old square jaw ones have higher jaws. If strong and laminated they should be ok for this set? Also, I’ve on occasion had beaver that have had a rough night up on the bank with his own colony. I’ve always thought maybe they got some of that strange foreign beaver scent on their fur. Have you had this problem? Planning on getting some of your beaver lure before season. Is the one you made years ago called, I think, Iowa Gold being called another name? It was a great beaver lure.
I hauled your mom once on a " thank god its spring " courtesy shuttle put on by abate at the old coluseum . She must have told us all half a dozen times you were her son she was VERY proud of you ! Ps . Your a good river man
T Veach thank you. Yes mom and my stepdad Allen use to go to the Thank God It's Spring fling every year. They still live here in Bonaparte on the west coast of town. I love on the east coast of it 😂. Thank you. And thank you for watching too
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 no way I take them down and their dead. You've got them on a ten foot lead running and splashing around. That's nuts!!! My beaver steps in the trap goes down the road and is dead in just a few and out of sight. You put a beaver splashing all over heck and the rest will den up.
They pay less attention to a live beaver on the bank than they do a dead 1 at the end of a slide rod or in a 330 I promise you that. But to each their own. You trap them your way I'll trap them mine.

Thank you Nick. And thank you Meat Trapper . I'm so glad you liked it.
Im glad that you pointed out how wide a beaver is to folks ! Its like driving , the middle of the road aint the best place to be !
Absolutely otter cat!!
Thanks for sharing this Dale, great video! I find myself using more foothold and less 330’s.
You're welcome. Yes I've found that beaver don't get waspy too foot holds as they do 330s
Thank you for sharing Dale!! Your Lures and Bait are superior products. Your Techniques are real game changers.
Thanks James. I appreciate you

They're hard to adjust for pan tension and pan height plainsman. That's the biggest draw back to them.
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 ahh that makes sense and I’ve seen that in my experience as well. Thanks again and keep them chains tight!

I’m so glad you decided to make TH-cam videos. Do ya have a catalog yet?
Actually Josh my 22/23 catalog is on TH-cam with a full description of everything i offer
Absolutely great video thanks for the information...just subscribed all the best
Thank you Stephen. I appreciate you watching too
I just noticed that the trap was an offset jaw. Do you see a difference between the offsets and regular jaws in beaver trapping?
I dont see a difference between them Patrick. They both work equally fine
what size is your loop in the beaver snare? Do you have a product catalog?

Super informative thanks Dale
Thanks for watching Eddie
Where do you like to anchor? Dumb question. Run your line up on the bank/dam?
Wherever I can get it in Ben. There's no right answer buddy.

Its been my experience Stephen that if you get 1 chewed up its generally an old dominate buck beaver doing it. Eliminate it and the problem stops.
Yes its under the name Iowa silver Stephen
Dale, what size loop on snares??
Somewhere between an 8-10 loop is just fine Larry. Thank you for watching

I'll stick with drowning them. That way their under the water ,out of sight and not meesing the other beavers up.
You're messing the other beaver up by drowning them Randy but that's your choice.
