Had a Swiss Shepard. She passed a year ago. She was the kindest creature I’ve ever come across and smart as hell. She left beautiful white hair absolutely everywhere. A year after she’s passed, we still find white snowball hair floating around. It makes me cry to think part of her still follows us around no matter how much we clean. It’s basically dog glitter lol. Fur I agree with. The barking is dog specific, mine moans at me but only barks very briefly when she runs into the garden or someone knocks for 2 secs and then stops.
My last dog was an Akita x German Shepherd mix. He only barked 4 times in his whole 13 years, but the shedding? I could've run a business of stuffing pillows or mattresses 😂
Well I own a white swiss Shepard, basicly a white GSD. She absolutely never barks. For the fur, well we have a roombat that goes everyday. Our house is all clean. As someone said I prefer 100 times fur over drool.
I have a calm longhair GSD and when he hears someone outside he loses his mind 🙄. I think there should be a rule that when u purchase a longhair that a vacuum cleaner should come with the dog lol 😂
I've owned many GSDs . I have never had any bark a lot. Only playing or if they see threats . The fur can be vacuum time consuming , however, it's what make them all weather for camping , winter ,survival etc. I live in the country, so an inside fur type is useless to my lifestyle.
On that hair thing. My female GSD was the best and we kept a clean house. So you grab that morning cup of coffee and check the top for random fluffy undercoat hairs. They get everywhere. But their intellect is amazing and they are loud.
I have a GSD/ husky mix … most amazing dog … obedient, intelligent, quiet and loyal .. the only GSD trait is his copious shedding …. Nobody’s perfect 😂😂
I have a German Shepherd Rottweiler cross. First time I ever owned anything with a Shepherd in it. It is amazing how much hair falls out of a shepherd. But I love him to death
I have a one year old, female beauty. I keep her crated in a non carpeted area and use robotic vacuum cleaners to automatically, manage the fur. Works beautifully! She is highly trained by me and is 100%, lease free.
You hit the nail on the head. They shed and shed and shed. We all grew with a Shepherd. I can't remember the barking, but my neighbor has a Shepherd that bark's at the drop of a hat.
I have a shepherd husky mix. My previous dog was a retired racing greyhound, she was my first dog as an adult and our first family dog. My kids both commented that they wanted a more dog-like dog for our next dog, and boy did we get one, lol. Toast barked more in the first few hours after we brought her home than Haley did in the 4 1/2 years we were blessed to have her.
Fabulous dogs❤ The fur is something else though. I used to hoover mine with the Henry. He loved it, both of us were on first name basis with my hoover.
Omg! It’s never ending!!! The barking…the hair…I say “never getting another German Shepherd” I kind of feel like that might be a lie 😂😂 but he’s right..don’t get one if you have a problem with these problems.
My house is...well, not so tidy anymore 😂. She barks only to tell me someone is here, she is not very vocal. But her character, personality is amazing! She really healed my broken heart when I lost my old dog
I was not prepared for all the barking and vocalizing during play. There was a solid few weeks I thought she was growling at me while playing. The hair is everywhere too, but i have 3 cats so i have to clean up anyway

Try living with a Cocker Spaniel! You will have 🦮hair on your toliet 🧻paper! Okay, that was an oversaturation, but everywhere else!
In our GSD house, dog hair is considered a condiment. They're only barky when someone's at the front door.
For those who do not know, Hoover is the vacuum cleaner, not the dog.
All true! Mine is only 1/2 GSD but we got the barking and shedding half. Gotta love her❤️
Once you get one, you can never go back to any other kind of dog. The intelligence level is just amazing
German Shepherds are the best especially the Old German Shepherd it’s a shame it’s not as widespread anymore.
Amen brother. Lots of barking, lots of fur
On that hair thing. My female GSD was the best and we kept a clean house. So you grab that morning cup of coffee and check the top for random fluffy undercoat hairs. They get everywhere. But their intellect is amazing and they are loud.
Each one I have had behaved a little differently but each one brings their own joy. A big dog and they come with big responsibility. ❤
I have a GSD/ husky mix … most amazing dog … obedient, intelligent, quiet and loyal .. the only GSD trait is his copious shedding …. Nobody’s perfect 😂😂
I love mine. I'm happiest out on a field playing with my two. Fk the fur 😂
They can be a little bitey, too. But I like em.
I have a German Shepherd Rottweiler cross. First time I ever owned anything with a Shepherd in it. It is amazing how much hair falls out of a shepherd. But I love him to death
My GSD is a conservative barker but holy crap I think we eat a pillowcase of doghair every year. That said, it’s undeniably worth it to us!
its been 3 years and im still trying to let go of being very tidy and clean, and say goodbye to your good night sleep😂
German shepards are amazing, I had them in the past, they are so protective, not only of their owner but of your other less obidient dogs.
😢how about the hip issues? That's what gets me with them I just can't stand to watch them in pain limping along at eight years old.!!!!
My German shepherd is super quiet til it all kicks off
Omg! It’s never ending!!! The barking…the hair…I say “never getting another German Shepherd” I kind of feel like that might be a lie 😂😂 but he’s right..don’t get one if you have a problem with these problems.
That barking will make you rip your hair out for sure. I’m used to it now. Ugh 😂
My house is...well, not so tidy anymore 😂. She barks only to tell me someone is here, she is not very vocal. But her character, personality is amazing! She really healed my broken heart when I lost my old dog
My best friend for 12 years! Wouldn't change it for the world. I would have him back in a heartbeat.
One of the best family dogs you can get .
Bark, squawk, yodel, eardrum piercing high pitched whine, love it all!
I own a German Shepherd personal protection dog, and I love him. He is the best thing that happened in my life. I always feel projected . ❤❤❤
One of my favourite doggos
This is a delightful summary - especially 'get used to the Hoover.'
Mines had hair like glue. Fluffy hair everywhere.
I was not prepared for all the barking and vocalizing during play. There was a solid few weeks I thought she was growling at me while playing. The hair is everywhere too, but i have 3 cats so i have to clean up anyway
They only shed twice a year. It just happens to last 6 months at a time. 😂
I kept my puppy boy and ditched carpeting. Well worth it. 🐕❤
