Something the Orville did better than any other Trek show (Yes, the Orville is a Trek show - it's earned that right) is astropolitics. Between the Moclans, the Kaylon, and the Krill, I was constantly at the edge of my seat, trying to figure out who was going to end up allied with whom, and I fell for the red herring and got the full level of enjoyment out of the surprise every time.
I loved how far they went flipping the status quo on it's head by the end, and doing it in a manner that was logically consistent with the universe. Even though I doubt we'll ever get another season, they really ended it on a very satisfying high note and left enough time for a nice resolution to tie a bow on it.
That's something I also felt Babylon 5 did better Trek. It felt like there was more weight with the Centauri vs. Narn conflict than the Cardassian vs. Bajoran conflict. The Orville gets it right as well.
It’s quite interesting when you think of it from their perspective. Originally a song about being hopeful that things will improve is turned into a depressing song about a girl singing how things will only get worse for her. Both kind of fit with the plot and events happening overall
I really liked we got episodes that showed the Union was serious about keeping the alliance together going as so far as returning prisoners despite no extradition treaty but eventually realized the Krill were all take and no give. That felt sadly realistic.
I always wondered what the Jem'Hadar would be like if they had more free will and a actual society so I'm glad The Orville gave us a glimpse into that even if they are a totally different species.
in the very first appearance Jem`haddar had more free will, but then writers quickly added Vorta and so Jem haddar became just killing machines on ketracel white
I imagine when the Jem'Hadar managed to wean themselves out of Ketracel White and killed off the Vorta while maintaining their religiousity, they will eventually evolved to be the Krill.
@@LGranthamsHeir they can`t evolve. You didn`t take to account that they were created artificially, they live for a few years and they`re only males - can`t reproduce themselves. I always feel like The Krill would be deeply into sad operatic themes, maybe both Human and Klingon opera. I can imagine them singing “if I were a rich man” or “I feel pretty”.
When the council people were held hostage on the Krill homeworld, there was a moment where one of them was knocked to the ground with the butt of a weapon. I had hoped there'd be a scene where they'd try it with the Xelayan Councillor woman and end up breaking the weapon on her or something
The Krill are like the Literary Orcs to me. Capable of ubderstanding and appreciating many things but subtext and deeper themes. The way they talk about everything in a brusque and straightforward manner. It's like war and deception are a one-note thing for them. So when someone blindsides them, the tactic is something so obvious it escaped them.
They know that the Krill are sensitive to bright light, but they know very little about their culture in general. That's why there was even a whole episode centered on acquiring a copy of their sacred book, so that they could understand their religious and cultural outlooks and find ways to open a dialog.
@@Renkencen You say that like it's a weekend project. Have you read our very own Bible in its entirety? Do you understand the full historical, social avec theological contexts? It's a huge endeavour! Their planet, unlike most others, has an atmosphere that blocks out most of the sun's rays, making it so that 'daytime' ain't even a thing for most part. In time, lifeforms on their home planet evolved to adapt to a dimly lit environment, at a cost of being extremely vulnerable to UV light.
The Krills actually seem to enjoy light: they capital city is full of it! It's just that they can't stand light that is too strong, because their cloudy planet has made them evolve to have no resistance to it.
