    Useful tips =D Regards the alkaline / acid thing I've recently thought about this and wondered what the actual benefit of the alkaline is - I've found it helps the clean up work when you use a weak acid (eg. vinegar), but in theory we aren't really neutralising it.
    The only way to trully get a neutral PH is by balancing precisely the acid against the alkaline, ie. inverse PH values to cancel each other out. But since we don't know the PH and its distributed randomly all over the place its pretty much impossible to actually neutralise it.
    I suspect as we clean with vinegar we end up with an acid PH level on the board, but the IPA clean up seems to solve that as the contacts / PCB is rinsed off. Maybe acid is easier to clean away than alkaline, or maybe the acid helps clean up the alkaline damage - I suspect the later.

    • @ahmidiyasser376
      @ahmidiyasser376 ปีที่แล้ว

      The acide will react with the alkaline that sittled on the contacts.
      Resulting in new molecules being formed and disolved into the acid.
      Which mean the result from the chemical reaction will be a solution and there are no solid lefts on the contact.
      And that solution can be cleaned using the IPA

    • @richardanderson5424
      @richardanderson5424 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can put foil on as a quick check but if it works you,ll probably just leave it there. You’ll need to replace the foil every time and the corrosion may get worse so better to do it properly.

    You should probably just make people aware that the fibreglass pens produce a fair bit of dust and broken fibres of glass. Best not to breath in that dust, and be careful of the broken fibres that get on your desk - they are very very fine and sharp and will stick in your skin almost without you knowing they are there until you catch the end of them and notice its stuck in you!
    Other than that, they are very useful little things to have.

    • @MrJozza65
      @MrJozza65 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Handy tip for fibreglass abrasive pens; if you twist the top to adjust the length of the fibre brush, the shorter the brush is, the more abrasive it's action will be.

    Baking soda and water work well to

    • @topouzidd
      @topouzidd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aydan Ritenour Baking soda with water is alkaline and does exactly the opposite of what we want to do. We want to neutralize the alkaline substance that started the corrosion by putting acid to react and convert to water and salt (then clear the humidity or wash with IPA because salt and water also make things corrode). The reason why you’re able to clean your contacts with soda+water is because soda is abrasive and acts as a fine sandpaper. It will clean the existing rust but it will not stop the rusting procedure, so it will rust again quicker than if you used vinegar in the first place.
