    16:57 - Not leaking oil - could be whoever put that 258 back together used a fel-pro one piece neoprene oil pan gasket instead of the original rubber and cork 4 piece set. I believe that one piece gasket also fits all the 4.0L engines all they way through the TJ series. I decided to go with one on my 78 CJ-7 258 and it doesn't leak oil at all. One of the best decisions I made. If you ever crack open a 258, do yourself a favor. Spend the $30 and go back with the 1 piece.

      Thanks for the input Mindeloman, and sorry for the delay. Not sure on the pan gasket, I haven't gotten that far on the resto, but good advice on Fel-Pro.

    It has to be done. You have to show the world there are still people and equipment up to the challenge. Now a days people think playing the video game is the same thing. Hopefully some of the youth will see it happen and spark a new generation of explorers. Can't wait to see more.

    Great story! I’m an old retired guy who got into Jeeps late in life. Currently “conserving?” a 1976 CJ7. I’ve fretted over whether to change out the axles with current options more popular that the original AMC/DANA axles, maybe even lockers. Now I hear this great story about what was accomplished by sheer will, determination, and driver skill with stock CJ7’s. Well, it just makes me want to bring it back in a more stock form.
    Thanks for a great story!

      Hey H Gj, Collard here. Thanks for the input and our apologies for the delay. Don't know if you watched our recent Jamboree videos, but that was one of the funnest Rubicon runs I've done in years; really took me back to the roots of old-school driving.

    I lived in Panama for five years and attended Balboa Elementary and Curundu Jr High. My dad had a close friend who was a “Zonian” who walked through the Darien gap. I was fascinated by his stories of his journey as well as his knowledge of La Jungla. (The jungle for those of you who don’t speak Spanish.) Today he’s considered to be a jungle expert and is one hell of a character to boot! Thanks for the great video!

    How about doing Darien Gap with two Flatties (one G503 & one CJ), a CJ5, a CJ7, a YJ and an Unlimited.

    • @josealecapo
      @josealecapo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From the very few info that I know about de Darien Gap, today is not only a 4x4 challenge: going there implies to manage some relation with local "originals" and drugs dealers/traffickers....

      Myself and quite a few other XJ owners that I know are more than capable of making that trip. And are more than capable of handling drug runners.
      30 day trip through 100% complete desolation.... With all logistical support being limited and what you can haul..
      Death being a double digit factor as a realistic consequence of failure.
      I like it.
