Can definitely tell this isn't your first rodeo.
I'm getting ready to replace the valve body with solenoid pack and both filters, in the next two weeks, in my 2004 Dakota.
Reason is due to intermittent delayed and hard shifting, both up and down.
I found it a quart low and added SeaFoam to clean and condition it. That has helped, but at 100k miles, I don't mind spending under $400 to replace them myself, with my 18 year old grandson. Good project.
Since researching this, I've learned a lot about the 545rfe transmission, but knew nothing about the gear and pump side.
You made it look so simple to tear down. I don't think I would go that far myself, but if I did, it would be from watching you work.
Not many people have the knowledge and ability to do what your doing and on top of that to do a video and teach others is amazing. I'll look for more of your work in the future.

    • @Wakeupandsniffthecoffee
      @Wakeupandsniffthecoffee หลายเดือนก่อน

@@jpn234 I replaced it, but still has issues. I ended up biting the bullet and took it to a transmission shop.
They went through it and said the problem was the computer.
They wouldn't do the computer because of past issues they've had when they did.
I called a computer refurbishing company, gave them my vin number and they programmed a rebuilt one.
When it came, all I had to do was unplug the old one and plug in the new one and it worked fine.
They required that I send back the old one as a core to get back the core charge.
      So far so good though.
Beyond that my grandson got his license and used it to drive two hours a day to get to school.
Unfortunately, with a brand new license, he had three accidents where he ran into people from behind.
So I had to rebuilt the front end, replacing water pump, thermostat, radiator, AC cooler, bumper, grille. I did most of that three times.
He seems to be driving better now, graduates aircraft mechanic school and is working an hour away at a small plane repair shop.
Are you dealing with transmission issues too?

With the knowledge you instilled in me from your VIDEO CLASSROOM, and my own mechanical inclinations taught to me by my father, I just recently replaced the shift solenoid in his transmission and now the first gear clutch plates are slipping due to his off-road Adventures LOL. With your GENEROUS HELPING OF KNOWLEDGE 🥰,
I have no doubt in my mind that I will be able to replace these wear parts by following your tear down and parts inspection procedure. It is with great pleasure that I commend you for your sharing of your knowledge. 😇 GOD BLESS YOU 😇

Wow, great video... I came here (and to many other places) because I have an 07 Dodge Durango 5.7L with 545RFE where it doesn't seem to keep lock-up properly in 50-80mph or so... it keeps lock properly uphill, but on level highway it will go in and out of lock-up or overdrive or something, 100-200 rpm difference... not really fast in and out like it seems you explained it at 28:00 ... did you mean it goes in and out of lock-up rapidly or with a bit more of a delay?
First I thought I should just try to replace the Solenoid pack, but now I watched through this whole vid and it made me now also suspect the spring ...

Few questions as I have the same issue on my WJ 04 545rfe - stuck in 3rd gear.
At the end what was the root cause?
You did not talk a lot about the pump pressure regulating valve - not an issue?
    Looking forward to your feedback.

Wow, man you have an incredible ability in tearing apart that transmission. I couldn't keep up with the speed you were going. I likewise have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 545RFE transmission - and I wonder if you could give me an educated guess. When in overdrive, I occasionally hear something under tension all of a sudden let go. I at first thought it was something swinging and banging against the bottom of the truck. It's random, happens once in a while, under acceleration, then while coasting - and I am pretty sure it's transmission related because when I take the truck out of OD, the noise is gone.

Great Video! I think I have to rebuild mine 5-45rfe soon, when I come to a stop it feels like the trans is not engaging and wants to stall the motor just for a sec then it unlocks and then its ok, it used to do it when it was cold but now I notice its doing it more, plus sometimes when you put it in gear (D) when its cold it feels like its slipping and then it will throw a code but ussaly you restart it and its ok if you feel it slip just a little..

I have 2 transmissions that I would like to have rebuilt(bench build as they will be pulled out 1at a time), 1-45rfe that is just starting to slip a little, and 1-545rfe that has a generic P0700 code that might as well get rebuilt as it is 25,000 miles behind my 45rfe. Hey Hiram, I just finished my 545RFE rebuild and thanks to you and your vids it went really well. Now that I have everything back together I'm having a problem. The engine doesn't want to start because it thinks the trans is in 1st gear. This is in an '06 Ram 1500 2WD with the 4.7L engine. The PRND12 indicator on the dash is LCD digital readout. I have made sure that the shift cable is not broken and the selector arm on the trans is all the way back in the Park position. Can you tell me what you think might be wrong and what I should be doing to trouble shoot further? I have tried clearing the ECU with my scan tool and manually and it has not made a difference. HELP! Awesome vid, your a legend. I'm about to have ago at my 4.7L 2004 grand cherokee. If you select drive 1st & 2nd work fine but then just it just revs out at next gear.. Only 120 000 klm's, maybe just speed sensors? Solenoid pack? What you think?

I don't know if "The man", Hiram answered you, but you may have a stuck valve and if you try fresh fluid it might come good. (for a while at least) waste of $40 - $50 if it doesn't fix it. Not too high a price for a chance.
common problem is probably clutch packs worn out (shouldn't be at 120000k /70k miles though)

Cris, thanks for the reply, I did change the oil and filters, made no differance. I still think your right though about it been a stuck valve.. if I take the solonoid pack out wll there be anything I can do to unstick a valve. Cheers

Dean Fitzgerald Sorry, I meant stuck solonoid. You could have a solonoid full of metal. Have to take out the valve body and replace solonoid pack if that is the case. If any clutches are worn out or piston seals damaged because of that, it could be everything to do. Try asking Hiram if he can think of a short cut, he is much more experioenced than me.

Hello sir I have a question about a 545rfe. It has recently dumped all the fluid out of the front through the dust cover area I do know that there is a seal there but it was brand new before it was put in to the truck was just wondering if there was anything else I should look for that would cause the fluid to dump out of the front

Shit my little spring's broke, I was wondering what was doing that. I'm sure there's some other tired pieces in there too. Finding a place you can trust is tough.
